Would be interesting but how does it work if you have no LI? Out of my 5 play throughs I only have 1 with a LI, so how would they work the decision?

Maybe they'd make you choose between Shep and a random squad member or someone in your party that has been your closest ally based on how you handle the missions in ME3.

Even if I could choose any squadmember, my main Shep would still sacrifice himself

Self sacrifice is the only way for my renegade shep to redeem himself.

I have this strange feeling that near the end of the game after the final boss fight, there is an inevitable scene wherein someone has to stay behind to do or activate something to destroy the Reapers. Then your LI springs out of nowhere and volunteers to sacrifice themselves? Thus, you are made to choose.

If ever this happens who would you choose? Your Shepard or your LI?

(If this does happen, I'm going to shed a tear. I can't bear to lose Shep or Miranda :( )

I do not think this will happen. I don't think Bioware will force an unhappy ending upon us.
But as for the hypothetical situation: Cyrus Shepard thinks Miranda is much more important for humanity's future than he is. So he'll go.

If anything like that ending were to occur, it would only be an alternate type ending... similar to how Shep can die at the end of ME2.. it wouldn't be the "main" ending.

I think it is safe to assume (since Casey Hudson already said so to Gameinformer) there will be many endings... I'm sure we can expect at least 1 of them to involve having Shep dying.

Definitely. My Shepard would never let Liara die when it could have been him.

True, but where is the drama in that? Choose random squadmate to kill v LI, doesn't seem to have the same ooomph of a decision to it.

What alternative do you think Bioware will throw in the equation?

Probably Virmire Survivor would step up to take what they feel should
have been their fate back on Virmire. Survivor's guilt and a chance to
redeem themselves.

I'd let my Shep die...She's paragon after all, and if saving anyone's life even if it's just 1 person, she'd do it.

LI

I don't know how to choose anything thats below a top right choice.

The twist would be if the Paragon choice was letting the LI Die...hmmm...

Now that's something better. I think instead of feeling pain and sadness if VS sacrifices themselves, I'll be like 'WHAT THE *BLEEP*?! Ashley/Kaidan died for you" LOL. It could have been more dramatic if VS and the one who died in Virmire had a brief romance, that's why they would be willing to sacrifice their life.

LI...

Seeing as how this is the conclusion, dying in a glorious hail of fire while saving the galaxy AND your lover is the most definite END ending.

Also then I'd have no reason to imagine Shepard's next adventures/shenanigans for the rest of my life.

Can we go the extra mile and have an irretrievably evil choice where we not only turn our backs on the LI but boot them into the line of fire to save ourselves?

I'll having Shepard sacrifice himself If story play out that way regardless of being paragon or renegade, and it might unavoidable to losing a lot of squad members throughout the game so..., it's always more dramatic that way. Anyway tragic conclusion is more powerful than happy ending, though, I'd love to that too.

True that. I'm expecting Bioware to create totally different endings and not just like ME2 where the only thing the differs in the end was the dialogue and the color of the planet behind the Illusive Man. For those people who say that Bioware won't give a totally unhappy ending... well I think they would so that gamers could really feel the impact of their choices throughout the whole game.

I will always save Miranda.

But I really hope we'll have the possibility of an happy ending with Shepard and her, together and alive.

I should clarify: I think Bioware would not force an unhappy ending upon us no matter what. It could come about as a consequence of certain decisions, but if it will, then it will also be avoidable by making different decisions. it will also not be primarily affected by the ME1 or ME2 endgame decisions.

I'd imagine that the LI would volunteer themselves and shepard would of course simply not allow them so he'd force them away and do it himself

in short something along the lines of this would happen

If this were the only ending, I'd throw it in the trash and just go back to playing the first 2.  If it were one option out of many that include an ending where you both survive, and defeat the reapers, I'd play one game with saving my LI.

My Shepard would find a way to save himself AND his LI.
:3

Why not?
After all, hes going to save the galaxy.
