In the E3 footage, we see this guy around 5 times.

I feel like it james, the one next to Shepard wearing all black and wearing a helmet to cover his face

Probably, there's no other reason to show him so much if he wasn't important. I'm guessing there will be the big introduction once Shep's safely on the ship. I know I'll confront him and be all like, "Who the hell are you?".

Well, he's an alliance badge, so i assume he's Vega.

Yeah, I imagine that to be true, the shot showing him aiming the Widow is probably his intro piece, then he appears on the Normandy and we get introduced to him. It'll be the way we have 2 squadmates from once we're on the Normandy with James and the VS

I'm guessing the unique model for Vega isn't finished yet, so they're using this placeholder instead. I mean, look, it's a generic Alliance soldier armor.

He's the new Kaidan/Jacob of the game. You don't know anything about him, and don't really care.
I'd be happy if they develop him well and he turns out to be the new Thane of ME3

You mean like how Kaidan looked at the start of ME?

Edit: We know he's an Alliance member, so it makes sense for him to be wearing Alliance gear at the start, just like Kaidan did.

The unique model for Vega appears in the advertisement for the N7 Collectors' Edition. He has different armor than that in the Alternate Appearance Pack.

Now, this could just mean that the Alternate Appearance Pack isn't just a reskin, but that's kind of nonsensical to me.

Also, pay attention to when he appears. That soldier in the Normandy cargo bay is taking part in an action pretty much right after the start of the game. There wouldn't really have been a lot of time to introduce the character before then. I think it's a bit more likely that we get Vega on Mars.

None of this means it isn't Vega, but that there are perfectly plausible (some might say more likely) explanations.

I think it's just a generic Alliance soldier, Priestly confirmed that the male in the collectors edition image is Vega, he obviously has much broader shoulders and a different set of armor.

ME1 is a whole different story. It had customizable armor, so there was no use for unique models in it.

Ashley in ME2 was wearing the heavy variant of Phoenix Armor, that she could wear in ME...

Kaidan's armor in ME3 looks similar to the Alliance Marine armor shown worn by the masked Alliance soldier.

I'm sticking with my theory that it is James and that when we get out of the cut-scene once on board the normandy he takes his mask off, ala Garrus in ME2 (who looked just like your every day Turian beforehand) and he introduces himself.

We still don't 100% know how they are going to deal with Squad armor in ME3 yet. So just because it looks different to his 'Alternate Appearance' pack doesn't mean anything, specially when you consider Miranda's alt appearance outfit in comparison to her normal gear ;)

Well, his name was Sanders originally until a month ago... Sanders (derived from Saunders) is a distinctly British name... unless they also changed his ethnicity alongside his name too (which would make sense.. but who knows... changing a name is less work than remodelling a character.. and his name was only changed to avoid confusion within the existing Mass Effect lore).

Neither one of those Miranda suits is generic armor.

Again, I don't think it can't be Vega; I think it's not that likely.

I was thinking it's that sniper guy from the trailer.

Still doesn't convince me. In ME2 Ash and Kaidan were reduced to minor NPCs. (Well, a bit of an exaggeration, but you know what I mean.) While all the actual squad-mates had their own unique models from the start.

My main point for highlighting them though was how the alt app outfit wasn't just a 'reskin' like a few of the others were and thus showed that squadmates could have different looking outfits.

I'm pretty sure he confirmed that the person in the Alternate Appearance Pack promo for the N7 Collector's Edition was Vega.  Where'd he say anything about Trailer Dude?

Because they're the same person? That is to say that they're wearing the same exact armor minus the helmet?

I don't know about you, but it can't possibly get any more obvious than this to me. We know James is one of the very first squadmates to show up, and this scene does take place at the beginning.

What? That doesn't look like the same armor at all.

Mind linking the picture again? I don't really recall but it looked similar enough. I'm sure this guy really is James. Like, who else would it be?

It's not the "same exact armor".  It's two sets of quite different armor.

Right. Sorry. I still think it's James, though -- considering whatever we've heard before and that Alliance badge.
