DId I read that right?! BW is pulling favorites and leaving the PS3 users in the dust after finally allowing us to join their universe? We have both the PS Eye/Mic/Headset and BluTooth, but we're not getting it? Why?! It seems like a cool feature that might be amazing if used right and expanded on, but I read somewhere that MS paid BW off and they're making excuses on why they wont do it for anyone else! The eye can pick up voices 3 rooms away so not being good enough to do it is BS... We have BT so that is an even clearer Voice method... I just like many other PS3/ PC BW fans had a feeling BW would leave us in the dust... I bet they wont do anything with the move either... again. The Move can at least have support for it as well so we have another great hardcore title that uses it. To be able to switch guns and give tactics on the fly  would be amazing... Too bad BW doesnt care about giving all of us what we could have... I could see if PS3 didnt have 4 didnt voice inputs types, but...

My theory: Microsoft said: "Oh crap! Kinect sucks... Let's make Mass Effect 3 use it. Hey BioWare, put it in your game and make it exclusive or you can't publish it on Xbox 360." So then BioWare sighed and decided if they were going to do it it might as well be cool. And then there was cake, and there was much rejoicing.

You heard right. PS3 is an backward console and your lucky to even have ME2/3. So be gratefull for that and don't go over asking. We all know pc > xbox > ps3.
Why is it not on pc I hear you ask? Cause we elitist purist don't want it.

I hear it is only on 360 because the Kinect programing is doing all the work for voice recognition.

The question is: Who is going to buy Mass Effect 3 on PS3?

#1  I enjoyed the first two games without voice commands.  I'll be fine without it in ME3

#2  This is going to turn into a "My system is better than your system" thread real quick so I'm going to request a mod.

Yeah, I honestly don't believe it is that easy, as if it were, don't you think other games would be doing it?

Dunno. That's just what Kotaku was saying. Supposedly the system only works because the Kinect can do the brunt of the work. Personally, I dislike motion controls and voice recognition, so I don't give a damn about the feature.

Me. My 360 crapped out on me months ago and there aren't enough system exclusives to justify me buying a new one.

Kotaku is right, the game is using the Kinect software for voice recognition and that is the reason why neither the PC or PS3 versions don't have the voice controls as the game doesn't have voice recognition code itself.

Kotaku had an article explaining why only Xbox / Kinect has this feature.
http://ca.kotaku.com...y-and-heres-why

Or if you're too lazy to read: Bioware didn't write any voice recognition software for this feature (it would require a lot of extra work)... the Kinect hardware has built in voice recognition in the hardware & software itself, saving Bioware months of work & cost.

To make it work on microphones on PS3 / PC, they'd have to write their own voice recognition software. And I'm certain we'd rather they spend those resources & time elsewhere.

I don't really mind as long as I can play the game and hopefully get the collector's edition.

I've tried voice commands in Tom Clancy's EndWar it's fun but you end up using the controller after awhile but maybe that's just me.

Thanks a bunch for that. I can rest in peace now, Bioware hasn't actually succumbed to some crazy discriminatory marketing strategy.

Voice Recognition is a Kinect feature. Reinforcing what was already posted, Bioware is using Kinect's VR for the game, thus to use it, you need an Xbox 360 and a Kinect Sensor.

PC doesnt need it. If we did, there are PC drivers (non MS) available for it anyway.

lol.  Doubtful that Microsoft would prohibit a franchise that was once a first party exclusive from being released on the 360 just because it wasn't using Kinect.

The devs are just trying things out to see what works,  most of the ways they're using Kinect seem pretty experimental and don't require additional time or resources.  Voice recognition is about the easiest way to get started but I'm sure they'll have snappier uses for it in the future.

Playstation Eye has VR software if i'm not mistaken. Is it really that hard to use it?

Neither does the PS3. Or the 360 for that matter. Its a gimmick added on to promote the Kinect and nothing more.

Does anyone here really give a **** about this? I thought this embarassing feature was made for casual players. Not because I am a PC player and will remain so, it's just that "talking" with the monitor would look so stupid. Imagine your relative's face when they hear or see you talking with alien monsters. It'll be the right time to use the red hotkey on the telephone.

I'm personally not planning on using it for dialogue choices but I'll definitely be using it to issue combat commands to my squadmates. Personally I hate halting the action to scroll through all of the different powers so this will make the action smoother for me.

Sufficiently so that Bioware doesn't feel it is worth spending the time / money to make it work with additional programming.

Kinect suits them just fine because integration with the VR requires almost no additional work at all on their part. The Playstation Eye VR isn't nearly as robust as Kinect's (apparently) and would require additional development time... so they went the most sensible route, they utilized Kinect because it took little to no effort to do so and gave them 1 extra feature to add on the back of the box.

Me too.  Fortunately it looks like you can still use the controller to select diagloue even if you are using Kinect.
