I know that you have to do those little sidequests on the way to the base to help keep Kirrahe alive.
But do I have to go to the AA Tower at the end in order for him to be alive on the Normandy or will he still be alive if I go back to the Bomb site?

The only things that have any effect are disrupting communications, the destroying the satellite uplink, destroying the flyers and the not triggering the base alarms. All else is dross.
