Its may be a little tedious , but the result is the same.

But as far as I know, if Gibbed can't do it, then I have no idea other than somehow editing the code, which may take WEEKS D:<
Though I've found that SMGs found on Tali's Recruitment and Kasumi's Loyalty were better than the AR's I had found anyway, with the exception of the Collector rifle. But still, snipers ftw

SFXWeapon_AssaultRifle --- M-8 Avenger Assault Rifle.
SFXWeapon_MachineGun --- M-76 Revenant Machine Gun.
SFXWeapon_MiniGun --- M-76 Revenant Machine Gun
SFXWeapon_Needler --- M-15 Vindicator Battle Rifle.
SFXWeapon_GethPulseRifle --- Geth Pulse Rifle.
I think the Mattock is the DesertAssaultRifle (not exactly sure)
The problem with using Gibbed is that your loadout is reset (I think) every time you go through the Weapons Selection before each mission. You may have to do this at the beginning of each mission.
If that doesn't work (or if it gets to be a pain if it does work) someone over on the modding thread figured out a way by editing the coalesed.ini file.

My sentinel chose a sniper rifle, but I want to try out the AR now. Gibbed can't change it anymore, any other way to mod it?
What I do is keep one savegame on the DCS right before the weapon pickup. You can use Gibbed to mod the class (make sure and get the squad points right), pickup the weapon, save the game, then used gibbed to set the completion flag to "LivedToFightAnotherDay". This character can then be imported.
It's a bit tedious, and you have to watch about breaking the number of squad points, but it works.

You made the right choice in the first place, lol

Sniper sentinel is a fun class, that's how I did my first Sentinel run. The Viper works as a battle rifle and a sniper rifle and is, IMO, a bit better of a weapon in the absence of Adrenaline Rush. You can also use the scope to target powers.

Have you tried changing it in Gibbed in the Raw>Squad>Player>Weapons section? There's a "..." icon at the right of that line that you can press that brings up another window with all the weapons you have equiped for that save. You have to switch the sniper rifle with the coalesed.ini name of the AR you want to use (see below).
SFXWeapon_AssaultRifle --- M-8 Avenger Assault Rifle.
SFXWeapon_MachineGun --- M-76 Revenant Machine Gun.
SFXWeapon_MiniGun --- M-76 Revenant Machine Gun

The thing that is somewhat frustrating about all this is that there is a way to change what your weapon training is. Whatever weapon you chose, that choice is stored somewhere in that saved game file, but no one has yet figured out how to change it.

PlayerSpecialWeapons=(WeaponclassName="SFXGameContent_Inventory.SFXWeapon_MachineGun",UnlockPlotName=Wpn_HeavyPistol2)
PlayerSpecialWeapons=(WeaponclassName="SFXGameContent_Inventory.SFXWeapon_FlakGun",UnlockPlotName=Wpn_HeavyPistol2)
PlayerSpecialWeapons=(WeaponclassName="SFXGameContent_Inventory.SFXWeapon_MassCannon",UnlockPlotName=Wpn_HeavyPistol2)
With it set for this, as soon as you get the M6 pistol from Mordin, it unlocks all 3 special weapons to be selectable from the weapons locker inside Mordins clinic.
Edit: If you already have been through this mission, then it just unlocks them from Normandy's weapons locker.

I guess one way to see where it's stored is to save the game before and after you choose your bonus weapon and compare the two saves in a hex editor. I have all my saved games saved. Maybe I'll give it a try this weekend.

It is a plain text file in the Mass Effect directory where I do all my editing from weapon specialization to weapon damage, ammo count, and shots per clip.
You will need a free piece of software called Notepad++. If you try to open the Coalesced.ini file in Microsoft Notepad it will be a very large wall of text. Notepad++ organizes this wall of text seamlessly into divisions and subdivisions.
I can PM you full instructions if you are on PC, I just don't want to have to type it all up and then find out that you are on 360 as all of those instructions would be, to the best of my knowledge, invalid if that were the case.

That statement is, at best, very misleading*. Notepad is simply broken beyond repair.Notepad++ organizes this wall of text seamlessly into divisions and subdivisions.
In particular, it can only deal with Windows-style newlines (carriage return + line feed) and will get confused by Linux-style newlines (line feed only) or Mac-style newlines (carriage return only?).
[It should be noted however that this problem is not specific to Notepad - any application that uses hard coded \\r\\f rather than the \\n (which
Besides, I think that you need to fiddle with some checksums as well for ME2 to use the modified c.ini
* Yes, Notepad++ supports (just like very nearly every editor that isn't Notepad) code folding as well but that's not important right now.

The version of Gibbed I am using lets me easily add all types of weapons training. My engineer is currently using assault rifles, sniper rifles, SMGs and pistols.
How do you do that?

You can change it with the .r1b7 version of Gibbed (get it here). Once you unzip it and load the save you want to change go to the Skills/Upgrades tab under the Player tab. The Weapons-Bonus section shows what weapon you took on the Collector ship.
