I got mine from Gamestop the other day too. That DLC character listed on there is a mistake. One of the Devs made a post about it in one of these threads.
I'm guessing it was originally planned, then quickly scrapped. They may still release it as a separate DLC. I vote for batarian squadmate
Heh, in other words "Wait, why are we giving this DLC away for free when we can charge people another $5-$10 for it above and beyond the nearly $100 they're paying for the CE??"
DLC and DRM ... the two three-letter acronym scourges of gaming. Remember when gaming companies didn't release half-finished games only to sell you the rest of it a piece at a time for $5 a pop?
Luckily, the CE is only $79.99, not $100. However DLC has become a two-edged sword, I'll admit that.
In the U.S., not counting shipping costs? Yes. In Australia, for example, however, it's a little under $130, and that's not even including shipping, if I remember correctly ... anyway, my point stands - it seems awfully suspicious to have something pulled from the list of 'free' things included with the CE, only to have them say that it may still be around, you'll just have to pay MORE for it instead.
Doesn't matter to me, honestly, though - if ME3 is tied in to their online services with anything beyond a one-time activation at install, I'm not buying it anyway, nor do I plan to buy any DLC that isn't a "story" DLC (essentially a mini-expansion pack, which I have no problem with) even if I do end up buying/playing it. I already got burned with DA2's activation, and couldn't play on launch day even though I paid for the game legitimately, while those who pirated it all got to play with no problems at all.
My philosophy in general these days with regards to gaming is "Treat me, as a paying customer, like a software pirate and I won't buy your games". Sadly, that means that more and more, I'm just not buying games period. I refuse to pay for any game that the publisher can arbitrarily decide I don't have the *right* to play any more at any time beyond the initial point of sale. And yes, this means I don't buy any console games - I haven't owned a gaming console since the PS2. If I buy something and have a receipt to show proof of purchase, it's mine, sorry publishers. Honda/Acura doesn't get to show up and repossess my car because I modified the exhaust and engine timings, you don't get to digitally show up and tell me I can't use my software anymore because I did something you didn't like.
