What's wrong with ME 1 style looting Kill some baddies = New items? You even looted weapons at set points in ME 2, this includes credits and technology?

i would prefer looting over the Xp idea or a combination of the two :/

If you killed your enemy, their armor would be all shot up or damaged. Plus, if they lost and were similarly trained, it just means their equipment was inferior, so you would have little to no reason to take it. I believe having an on-site R&D facility, or ordering/commissioning gear from high end suppliers makes more sense. Unless special operations forces are working for an extended period in a remote area, without access to high-quality ammunition or other supplies, they are often equipped with match-grade weaponry and non-standard gear.

What about XP-based acquisition?

Bioware won't even give us XP for kills, why would they would they do it for acquisitions?

What is your point? Squadmates always had and will continue to have XP.

Standard points are handed out at the end of missions like rations, that's how our squad mates level up in ME2.   Almost like saying, "Ok so you finished that mission, here's a little bread and water.  Finish another one and we'll give the exact same amount of bread and water" They do NOT earn XP for kills, and neither do we.  That IS my point.

Seriously the way Bioware is going with this they might as well utilize check points at the end of missions.   Because we don't get anything for all of this extra gunplay they're throwing at us.

I'd love to see the light/medium/heavy armor make a return - however I would *not* like it to be class-specific.
Of course, it's likely light armor may be suited more to adepts, medium armor more for infiltrators and heavy armor for soldiers; but like the promised new weapons system, I'd prefer types of armor not to be class-bound.

Actually, the system as it is in ME2 is excellent - the armor design just needs much more diversity that would imply the differences in weight of armor ranging between an Asari Commando suit and the Kestrel Armor, rather than making them all bulky like the standard N7 in ME2.

Of course, I'd like to see lighter armor's stats to be geared towards biotics and tech, heavier armor towards combat, just not bound to class like in ME1.

That said (and repeated), the base idea of more varied armor is something I greatly support.

I think the best way would be to create a few unique outfits for each character, like ME2, but to give each outfit a set of statistics ideal for that character. On top of that, you should be able to install an upgrade...or maybe upgrades.

It's simple, but you'll still get plenty of numbers for the RPG superfans.

Thing is I always went for Medium Armor every single time for ME1 regardless of being a Soldier or Infiltrator. I shouldn't have to be forced to wear an ugly and useless Heavy Armor just because "Soldier Shepards are programmed to do so."

I like the looks of Liara there, I hope we ahve something like that. I will love to see Liara and the Team having customizable Armors. I have some Ideas, others I will but soon. I hope they bring back armor customization I think they will. :)

I don't understand why we can't just make the armor system for squad members like DA2 and call it a day.

My suggestion would be that there would be no armor classes. Each squad-mate would have a unique basic armored design that would make up there basic armored appearance. To keep the inventory simple, the same u[gradable pieces used on Shepard's N7 armor, once purchased or acquired, should be able to be used on all squad mates, similar how when a weapon is acquired it can be used by all squad member who can use that class of weapon. Each piece should be slightly modified in design of course to fit closer to the style of the basic armor of the squad-mate it is being placed on. Lastly I would like to see one extra special armor set unique for each squad-mate that is made up of parts that can be mixed and matched similar to the way Kestrel armor worked in ME2

In another thread focused more specifically on Shepard, this is in it:

I'm
genuinely hoping that light and medium armor do make a comeback,  but I
disagree with a penalty to heavy armor, especially if it is restricted
to the soldier class.  It might make sense to add a penalty for wearing
the heavy stuff to tech and biotic users, but a soldier should be able
to shoulder the weight no problem, because that is what their combat
implants are geared towards doing, regardless of whether it is a
male/female Shepherd.  I think that would be a sensible
approach.

I like that.  It makes sense and would make the
soldier more unique.  Going with that idea, maybe soldier has no
drawbacks for heavy armor, vanguard and infiltrator have minor
movement/accuracy impariments, and adepts, sentinels and engineers have
greater drawbacks (of course, not to the point of heavy armor not being a
viable option for them).

I think this would not only work well with Shepard, but also with squadmates perhaps?

3 unique armor sets (light, medium, and heavy) for each character (well, Tali is probably an acceptable exception) would be fantastic, so long as we could determine when they wear the helmets with them too.

"Light (+35% Power Cooldown, +25% Storming Duration, Low Armour "HP")
Medium (Regular stats, Medium Armour "HP")
Heavy (-25% Storming Duration, -15% Power Cooldown, High Armour "HP")" NO!

squad armour customisation and a return of the 3 types are completely unnecessary for ME3: you role-play shepard, not the squad. they are quite capable of deciding what to wear. unique outfits increase unique characterisation, not homogeny. the only thing necessary is more than a couple of different outfits for each.

It was unequal. There were lots of helmets, I remember, About 7. Other body parts had from 5 to 3 options.

Hmm, are you sure that there are that many?

There was actually more.. there was 10 helmets

N7 Helmet (open faced with see-through visor across eyes)
N7 Breather Mask (The one Shepard wore in the intro)
Kuwashii Visor (Shep's equivalent of Garrus's visor)
Death Mask (the one with the Negotiation bonus on it that looked hideous)
Umbra Visor (NV goggle look)
Recon Hood (Shep's version of the hood Thane wears in hostile conditions)
Sentry Interface (The one that looks like Cyclops from X-Men's visor :P )
Archon Visor (The one that didn't work as intended)
Capacitor Helmet
Kestrel Helmet

I actually liked that there were so many and as roflchoppaz indicated it was a bit of a shame there wasn't a similar number for the other parts.

I think for them to include a similar 'modular' format for the other squads might be tough because they'd have to consider it for the 'non-human form' squadmates too like Tali, Garrus, Wrex, Grunt, Legion etc...

Personally I'd prefer for squadmates for it to be a bit more like ME2 but maybe different outfits with different stats/looks so you can customise them to fit with the skills you are allocating them.

I'd also like the modular pieces of Shep's armor to be more representative of the classes that might use them so that they have a similar look to how they would have in ME. To me an Infiltrator running around in heavy looking armor looks a little silly. It'd be nice to see the types of modules that an Infiltrator would make best use of would look more light-medium style armor.

That sounds like a terrific idea. Its a great base concept. It still boggles my mind that people want such streamlining to character customisation, as prevalent in this thread, but i think this is a good compromise. It's not too difficult for those who just want to shoot things, and it is a hell of a lot more complex than the ME2 armour system.

EDIT: On second thought, i don't even think BW will consider this system. It is well known by now that they want unique sets of armour for the squadmates. And the people in this thread really back up that concept, as it is damn obvious that they just want a couple outfits for the squadmates.

I think the best compromise would be to have the particular character's base oufit (Like Liara's for example), to which you can change the colour, and add accessories to it, which may hinder one stat but bring up another. Maybe you'll find a large gauntlet that can be placed on Liara's outfit, and once it is applied her melee damge increases, but her melee speed decreases. I think the whole light-heavy armour concept should be ditched as no one wants that (Except me :'(  ). Make it a variation of the Mass Effect 2 customisation, but use it for all squadmates.

I personally think that is the best compromise

I just want something as close to ME1 as possible or allowing a more advanced version of ME2's player armor to be done to companions as well.

I have a few thoughts:
The rig: I think it would be nice to have class specific armour style - its structure - eg bulky for soldiers, sleek for biotics, survival-like for infiltrators and so on. Everyone of them customizable of course.
Is this the time to return to Collapsable Helmets Topic? :)

Since one of the features they seem to be selling as part of the collectors edition is a colour swap of Liara's armour, I doubt this is happening.

Did you read Phaedon's OP?

If you have been following the news, it was reconfirmed recently that
the squad armour customization system isn't finalized. Which means, that
we still have some times to suggest a system or two.

They can easily change the details on the CE before the game comes out and we don't even know what the 'appearance pack' could mean, it could mean that the outfit has different stats.

I support your ideas Phaedon.

While I would prefer even more armor customization I'll stay realistic and say this is more than I'll expect from ME3.
(Though in the later days of E3 BioWare showed me that the ME3 team still cares about RPG fans! (at least more than in ME2 which I enjoyed none the less))

An additional outfit would just add more customization to Phaedon ideas.
So you had 4 sets instead of 3.

Yup as an example...

Starting Outfit maybe gives bonuses to Biotic Duration including things like shields and powers (for her own shields and stasis and such)
Alt Outfit gives bonuses to Biotic Damage and Impact Radius (for her Singularity and Throw)
Or a mix up with another outfit giving other bonuses or a mixture of the 2.

Yes? How does that stop XP acquisition?

Mkay, so if you had to choose between three systems:

a) Just like the OP, 3 N7-style outfits with stats attached to their parts.
B) One N7-style outfit.
c) One N7-style outfit, but with upgrades that although they are visual, don't significantly change the armour set a lot. For example, a headset is applied to the head of the character, or the shield generator in the back changes.

I think it can be handled similarly to ME2. My five cents: each character can have 3 outfits. One casual, of their own choice, complementing the character, worn on the ship. Two combat outfits similar to ME2, but with a bit more changes between. We may change only the color of these two outfits.

This way, we still get some visual customization, but don't go back to the resource-consuming micromanagement hell which was in ME1. And characters retain the vision of the designers.

What do you mean by 'casual'?

Which of ME2's outfits would you define as casual?

There WERE no casual outfits for team members in ME. The similarities for ME2 were meant to only cover how the combat outfits work. What I'm basically saying is: take ME2's system and use those two outfits only on shore leave, and allow their limited customization, like color. And THEN add an additional casual outfit for the character(s) to wear ON the ship (like in ME1).

EDIT: And 'm not going into the whole light/medium/heavy armor swapping territory because that definitely won't be handled that way in ME3. The N7 CE suggests as much.
