voted 1,
others have some appeal as well, but my issue with customizing my squadmembers' armors is that it may be a nice thing for you as the player, but I keep thinking about this within the game ... it feels like telling them what to wear and well ... they're grown-up people, shouldn't they wear what 'they' want?*
so making armors that suit the character and have a variance between the different versions per character would satisfy that other aspect I'd want as a player

though, to use one of the often heard sentences from E³: "this is a full-scale galactic war";
the outfit they wear should reflect that, their casual wear for the Normandy is another thing

maybe:
- basic
- upgrade (and similar to powers you can chose e.g. + damage or + defense or two options that make sense for the character in question)

+ casual outfit for being on the Normandy

*
Warden: Sten, I want you to wear this.
Sten: ... no.

Is there an all of the above option?

There is. Anything but option 3. trollface.jpg

Okay, okay, kidding.

Am I the only one who doesn't give a damn what armour looks like as long as it actually functions as armour?

Catsuits and breather masks were ridiculous as hell and I agree that Squad mates should be in full combat armour with a bloody helmet.

That said, Shep's armour was pointless and nonsensical in ME:2. Anyone ever tried wearing the Breather Helmet on Samara's Recruitment mission? You know, the Breather Helmet that is supposedly hermetically sealed and that Shepard would wear if in actual space. Well if you haven't here's a hint: the toxin affects Shepard the same as if he were standing there in his undies. The helmet does absolutely nothing. Also, while I'm on the subject, why does the original N7 chest piece give +3% power damage? Last I checked the Biotic Amp was implanted in the Biotics skull. Why does it not have damage reduction from the ceramic plates etc that are used on combat armours, which would actually make sense?

I'd like a system like Shepard's in ME 2, but without the "N7", obviously.  There would be a difference, though.

I'd like to be able to swap between light, medium, and heavy, with the "damage protection" element added back into the game.  This would reduce damage dealt to the wearer by a certain percentage based on the type (light / medium / heavy) of armor.  I'd like to see a return of heavy armor.  Like I've said many times, Shepard wears medium armor in ME 2, not heavy.  Look at Conrad Verner's armor for comparison, especially the biceps and shoulders.

As a strong supporter of heavy armor, I voted for option 3.  I didn't know that there would be a poll.  I should check back more often.

I think we should be able to customise all the different peices, but the colour and the pattern should be set so each squadmate can retain their unique appearance.

PS. both links take me to the same poll.

Thanks for the tip should be fixed now.

Heh, I forgot to ask about the colours. Maybe in the next stage. It's connected to the patterns anyway.

I would be satisfied as long as we have the option to have our squadmates fight in vacuum sealed and ABC weapon safe armour covering all skin.

Stripperific outfits out of combat, sure if we absolutely must have it. In combat however, just no.

It was fun giving our friends different looking armours with different effects and give them the best upgrades. I can live with the ME2 system though.

Would you put appearance over statistics?

I prefer a more static look for the squadmates, as I feel it is very much an element of the characters' personalities. Unlike roflchoppaz, I do have some fun with ME1's mix-and-match system, but when I get to ME2 I feel more settled-in with things. I definitely enjoy being able to look at Jack and say "that's Jack; that's Jack's look" and so forth.

I voted for the second option. Unique parts sounds like a cool idea that still offers freedom and customization without sacrificing the image.

Roger that.

Just voted. I'm cool with the third one -- give everyone three or four patterns the player can choose. Sounds good to me.

Voted. Same choices as Jeff funnily enough, for much the same reasons. :)

The locker system in ME1 was terrible but I like customising my squad.
but it basically came down to loading in the strongest armour, the most powerful weapon upgrades etc. I liked the fact all my squad members were wearing ARMOUR not cat suits.

Samara's attire was goddamn ridiculous. Why are you putting your huge blue boobs on display if you have sworn to abide by a code of a warrior monk and won't do the sexy time thang with me. YOU TEASE. make with the sense plz. LOL jks I wouldn't romance her, she's too old :P

I respect that Bioware has taken time and effort to create individual looks for every character and that is admirable. How about a compromise? Every character has a unique look that they wear while on the Normandy, then they wear player customisable (stats, look, colour, material) armour during missions. This is a war.

I would love to customise- within reason- my companions.

Even if I have to keep the basic look of their armour- no sticking Thane in heavy armour or putting Grunt in the spanx outfit that seemed to pop up everywhere in ME1- maybe giving them some gauntlets, dying their outfit- we should be able to slap our own Shepard/Normandy (NOT ALLIANCE) logo on their outfits.

I just want the squadmates armour and clothing to make sense contextually.

For example it didnt make sense for characters to be cutting about in full armour and weapons in public areas in obstensibly peaceful areas like the citadel.
And made even less sense for certain characters (Miranda, Thane, Jack, Samara) to be cutting about in toxic atmosphere and no atmosphere areas in outfits that do not protect their bodies from vacumn and toxic vapours. Also stilettos are highly impractical and stupid for a combat situation.

If the most popular options right now, end up winning, do you think that the following polls would be good for the third stage?

-Amount of armour sets per squadmate.
-Ratio of extra armour parts/armour per squadmate.
-Amount of patterns.
-Should the patterns apply to all armour sets and parts?

Okay, polls should be closed in a few minutes, are you happy with these polls?

-Amount of armour sets per squadmate.
-Ratio of extra armour parts/armour per squadmate.
-Amount of patterns.
-Should the patterns apply to all armour sets and parts?

It would seem so Messina.

Personally, I'm all for squaddies having their unique look (e.g. Liara's LotSB armour, Miranda's DLC armour), but with the option to recolour them, and have variations based upon additional parts.  And 'casual' outfits for shipboard wear (like the Alliance fatigues Ash/Kaidan/Shep wore in ME1, but unique to the squaddies).

Taking Miranda's DLC armour as an example; the chest area is currently flat (if you will ;)), like Shep's default N7 chest piece.  If we equip her with a capacitor chest piece, I'd like the armour to show the circlets, in the same way Shep's chest piece does, whilst still retaining the 'look' of the overall armour.

Obviously, that requires a lot of work, but is it too much?  I don't know to be honest.  I'm rubbish at 3D modelling, so I don't know how long it'd take to create the models.  It might be possible via normal & specular maps and textures onto a 'blank' armour, meaning that no new models would have to be created.  It might not, and be a complete pain in the hoop to create.  But it would be nice to have.

Similarly, if there are unique armours (e.g. Liara suddenly gets an asari commando suit), then could these be used for that character only, with invisible upgrades that don't change their aesthetic.

The only thing I'm really arguing for overall is armour consistancy.  If Shep has to wear their Medium/Heavy N7 armour all of the time, then could our squaddies also please wear something of similar 'weight'?  Individually styled, but definitely making it more uniform.

I'm in the middle of writing a 'pipedream' blog about armour and customisation (which involves manipulating screenshots, hence the long 'write' time), where I touch upon all of this sort of stuff.

Anyway, just my thoughts.

Tim

New polls are up. I think that a couple more stages and we should be able to send it to Bioware.
