Defeat of the Reapers?

BW people have stated many times that they would like to explore the Mass Effect universe in more depth in future installments. Will that make sense without the presence of the super villain?
If this has been discussed elsewhere, a link would be much appreciated!

Uber-villains are excellent for mixing things up. You don't like the balance of power? Bam! The Asari are put on the brink of extinction (yes please).
As it is - I think all the races should be facing Reaper fleets. Some shouldn't make it. You could easily have a massive section of Asari space get annihilated - but Asari still survive (for example, the large populations on Illium or Omega).

Plus, why do they need the Reapers moving forward? There are plenty of other conflicts that could happen within the ME universe without them re-using the same enemy over and over and over....

I hope Earth isn't the only place they unleash hell on. The trailer says "Battle for Earth" or whatever. I hope everywhere gets attacked simultaneously and we are all taken by surprise.
It was confirmed many times that Reaper aren't attacking only Earth.
Palaven and Tuchanka are under attack as well.
And from yesterday's E3 stream entire "South" part of Milky Way is attacked by them.

If I remember correctly, Houston yesterday said that Earth is the first place to be attacked because it's closer to the point of reaper "entry". Also, he said that other worlds are getting attacked too, but (this is me speculating) maybe not as organised as Earth.

I can see your point there. The mistake I've made is think of future istallments in ME universe, with the current game's standards.

I really hope that ME3 is the end of
the Reapers in any major form, as ME1-3 is Shepard's story, so the
Reapers are Shepard's antagonist. If the Reapers can't be defeated by
Shepard, I imagine that the trilogy will just feel like a pointless
fight against an unkillable enemy. Shepard would turn from a martyr (you
just know that one of the endings of ME3 will involve Shepard's death)
or hero into a lame failure that couldn't get the job done.

I agree completely. But you know, one can never be too carefull!

Well Star Wars universe went fine without Luke Skywalker, for the most part.

When you have such an "emotional" (can't find what else to call it) bond with the main character and the general plot, it's going to be hard. The idea of the next game, and the way it will become a reality (i.e writing) need to be perfect.
Think of it like all those actors that became famous and idolised for one role they played. It feels out of place seing the same actor perfoming in a different role. A perfect example of what I m trying to say is Matt Le Blank, as Joey in Friends..
P.S. Plz bare with me, English is not my native language. Sorry for any spelling/grammar mistakes!

Okay. Cool. I haven't been on here in a while and I missed E3 as well...so that's great news.
