Read and follow Raen's pinned sticky procedures, please. He starts with "Read First".

Thank you.

Windows XP Minimum Specifications
OS: Windows XP with SP3
CPU: Intel Core 2 Single (or equivalent) running at 1.6Ghz or greater
AMD 64 (or equivalent) running at 2.0Ghz or greater
RAM: 1 GB or more
DVD ROM (Physical copy)
20 GB HD space
Video: ATI Radeon X850 256MB or greater (this is clearly wrong)
NVIDIA GeForce "6600 GT" 128MB or greater (and this one is more wrong)

(Note: IMO, the practical choices for the two video cards above should be the Radeon X800 Pro, and the Geforce 6800 GS, at least, for small textures - it will take a Radeon X1650 XT (or X1800 GTO, same thing, almost) for medium or better textures)

INTEL'S GARBAGE (Graphics Chip) IS NOT SUPPORTED, and there is an interesting possibility that male party characters are easier to choose than female when using substandard video solutions, such as Intel's.

What kind of useless answer is that? I had the same problem with DA Origins myself today...failed to install. What causes this problem and what can be done about it?

Intel Core 2 Quad Core 2.4 ghz
4 gb ram
Vista 64 bit
Invidia Geforce 9600 GT

My C: drive--windows drive--is getting full so i tried to install on my D: drive. Does this game require installation on your windows drive in the windows program directory?

First off, one of the main reasons the game fails to install is because it detects an unsupported video card, i.e. an Intel Graphics card.

@bfkcls - we're all gamers here like you. No need to throw around words like "useless". As to your specific issue, You should be able to install the main program files on another drive... however the game also makes extensive use of the "My Documents" folder, which is typically on your Windows drive. So if you don't have enough space on your C: drive, you may still run into problems.

Also, Ultimate Edition installs the 1.04 patch automatically. I don't know if the having the programs files will cause the patch to fail or not... I've never tried it.

All in all, if there's any way to run the program off your Windows drive, you'll probably have better results.

OK. So basically i can just buy a supported vid card. I have a geforce 9800 gt 512 pci . When I buy a new graphics card I should look first to see if its a non intel card? Will that install it then?

Any recommendations?

If you received the same error message as if that was an Intel video chip you were using in spite of the Geforce, it would mean you had the wrong driver, or none at all, a bad Direct3D, or the game had installed itself wrong. A Geforce 9n00, whether 9600 or 9800, is not Intel's handiwork, but is nVIDIA's. That generation is getting elderly, but should still be fully adequate. Whatever the situation, completing the normal problem report before now would have meant the answer was closer to being solved than it is now.

The Geforce 9800 is not an Intel video chip.  It is an nVIDIA GPU, originally released over four years ago (when its name was "8800").  There are frequent problems related to the DRIVERS that nVIDIA began releasing after the 197 series, when the newer driver simply won't work in many games for cards such as Geforce 7n00, 8n00, and 9n00, which are seemingly not kept in mind for each and every Driver Upgrade.  But failures to complete a game install can have a wide range of causes above and beyond the graphics, such as DVD driver firmware for just one.

Without adequate information, however, it's nothing but a childish guessing game to try to answer any specifics, and that, I personally do not enjoy engaging in.

I completely agree with Gorath's point that we need more info to help. However, since I'm here and feeling helpful, is it the oh-so-wonderful "Installation Failed: Data Error" problem?

If so, you might want to read this: http://social.biowar...58/index/98494. That's the easiest (but not only) fix for it.

It really doesn't appear that the OP has much interest in sorting his / her question out.

Well, since you continue to fail to provide the kinds of information that might allow someone to help you, it's not surprising that you continue to fail to install the game.  Obviously you don't believe you've "tried everything", or you wouldn't be posting here asking for help.

Try completing the tech-spec sheet as several people have suggested, and note the available free-space on your drive(s), since that could possibly be an issue in your specific case.

Well, you never posted your system specs, as mention at the top of the forum.  So good luck brewing that coffee.

Locking.
