I know this topic has been somewhat talked to death but since the devs are giving more attention now  to the forums I hope we can get a some sort of non spoiler answer to this.

Technically you can successfully complete the Suicide Mission with only two other squad mates. What if you passed the SM with Zaeed and Kasumi and everyone else died (which are characters that at least theoretically should have the least amount of screen time in ME3 considering they are DLC and don't have that much dialogue anyway, of course this is just speculation).

I think so far it has been confirmed that Garrus and Tali will be part of the crew. But what if they died? That leaves us with VS, Vega and Liara. I don't know the total number of squad mates we'll have in ME3 but somebody has to substitute their places. Would it be new characters or ME1 or ME2 characters?

What do you think?

If Garrus and Tali are dead for you, they're not going to be in your game. And whatever role they would have had will either be filled by another character, or not and your Shepard's story will turn out differently.

Then you just get fewer squadmates. I don't want a huge team again.

Was thinking about that too. Does having only 2 characters survive SM that are NOT perma-squaddies in ME3 means your part will be down by 2 characters? Or will there be enough new characters to pick&chose from to fill the empty slots?

Then they probably just won't appear. You'll still have Liara, VS and Vega, not to mention the temporary squadmates. As for how missions go, I assume the main missions will be the same, but you may not get as much help as you would with a loyal squadmate.

This. We'll have Liara, Ashley/Kaidan, James Vega and probably 2 other new characters and probably another returning character from ME2 (My guess is on Miranda tbh). Along with Garrus and Tali if they survived ME2. If not... You'll have to make do with 5 - 6 characters in ME3, otherwise  7 - 8. And I like it just fine like this. Too many squadmembers just limits the depth and dialogue of all of them.

Edit: Of course we'll have temp squaddies in certain missions (Guessing on samara when visiting the Asari since Justicars get the highest level of respect from Asari)

Liara can't be killed. Kaiden or Ashley are guaranteed to be alive. Vega is a new character. That's enough characters to fill out a squad for even those Shepards who killed off almost everyone in ME2. The bare minimum character roster right now is 5; one less than we had in ME1.

Knowing Bioware if Garrus and Tali died we will have two new characteras. Jarrus and Gali to fill there shoes.

And write 2 completely new Characters, give them dialogue, personalities, voices and all even though only a fraction of the players are going to see them? Not likely..

I don't think you should get any replacements. If your stupid enough to actually get everyone killed but two characters, then you will likely make a chain of idiotic decisions in ME3 that lead to the destruction of the universe anyway. It would just be a waste of resources. Liara, Vega, and VS gives you 3 definite squad members. That plus one or two more is enough to get by for the dumbsheps.

Any save, and I mean any save, must and will have all of Liara, James and the VS. This is not taking into account possibly unannounced squaddies that were never in ME2. If we get a new female human character and make her the fourth ME3 squadmate, then that's four of them guaranteed for any save. Sounds about right to me.

If some squadmate dies, then tough luck.

Deal with it.

I really don't think any player should be compensated with anything because they suck.

This.
If you're stupid enough to let everyone die you should be punished for that by having less squadmates. It'd be pretty stupid if Bioware just said: "O, those two characters you killed off without giving a ****? They're replaceable. Here, have two new ones."

I think they'll handle it with optional Squad Members, who you can recruit regardless of whether or not old charcters died, to fill the class roles you might be left without. If you'd rather not have them you don't have to take them. I'm guessing 9 possible Squad Members overall, including DLC and optionals.

You can still get SM passed and still lose Garrus and Tali. I personally lost Tali on mine. What I do hope is that we don't get lack of content - rather have someone else instead. It's stupid not to have someone else (from a logical perspective) when Shepard has an abundance of possible choices. Of course from a developer point of view, that's something else.

Actually, it ain't really easy to have just 2 squaddies left after SM. Most people who have only 2 did it deliberately :police:

They might promote some minor NPCs to fill a few slots, too, but these characters likely won't get as much development.

You're implying it won't be Barrus, Garrus evil twin, and Whiny'Moenugget vas Emoboat, Tali's less dramatic and relatively more upbeat doppleganger.

I think she has to be disloyal and you have to take her to the human reaper fight.  Other than that, she lives IIRC.

Of course, and those who do it deliberately probably also have a playthrough where most everyone survived. I have a shepard where I let everyone die, and I really named him, "Stupid Shepard". I am curious to see how the universe falls apart around him, but don't expect that he will recieve any special treatment. My point was that if someone really did have everyone die on their only playthrough, they likely rushed it making terrible desicions for lack of interest in the story, and would continue to do so in the next game.

Yeah, that's the only way for Miranda to die.

Or they're RPing hardcore renegade Sheps. As much as I agree with you about the consequences of choices, there should be content for Renegade Sheps as well.
