....I'm not sure how to react. I feel amused, yet at the same time I feel confused and sad.

I agree that some people are taking the lore a bit too seriously.

For example, I fail to understand why the omni-blade is damaging to the lore. It's not like the tech in ME is static.

However in saying that, I understand why some people think thermal clips are a retcon but to me it's not a gamebreaker for me.

Mass Effect 3 is going to be a huge game, and I am impressed that they are really pulling out all the stops and tightening up all those little annoyances that have nagged at fans thus far. Removable helmets, latters, jumping, Garrus, Tali, Liara, VS, and better skill trees. They really are throwing the long time fans every bone that they can, and I wish some would be more appreciative of that.

Not to mention the fact that it's an entire galaxy. That's upward to a 100 billion stars.

That's a LOT of lore - it's not possible that "new tech" is simply "old tech" that Bioware didn't get to mention yet because, you know, a hundred billion stars might contain quite a bit of "stuff" to talk about.

What are people complaining about stairs? Is it because elevators are more "tech" and therefore more sci-fi?

Well - here's an argument. Humans are young in space - so, in their foolishness and arrogance they laugh at the other sapient species for having rudimentary things like "stairs". That is - until they realize the degenerative properties of living long term in "gravity simulations". So - to compensate - other races "reverted" back to common exercise practices to keep muscle and bone structures at 'race standard' levels.

Heck - do I know if the science of that is viable? Hell no - but neither are biotics, aliens, mass effect travel, Reapers, or - as far as we know - even other habitable planets. ((The claim that there "must" be other habitable planets is erroneous.))

I like the combat rolling.

Hell, I played ME2 yesterday and actually tried to do it. I am assuming it is direction + A.

 *Shepard looks at ladder*

Shepard:"What's this?"
E.D.I.:"That is a ladder Shepard. It is used by biped species to access different elevations when other means are not available."

-Climb up ladder
-Leave ladder
-Climb down ladder

Shepard:"I should go."

All joking aside I hope Shepard would know what a ladder is. I also hope Shepard knows how to use a toilet. I don't need a Codex entry (nor should anyone I hope) to explain how ladders work or why they exist. We already know how they exist, and how they work. Most of us however probably don't understand how Mass Relays work the first time we see them.

My only issues with the "lore" is when the Devs poorly explain something or make changes that go against what they already established. The existence of thermal clips, while certainly possible, is poorly explained and as a result hard to believe if you care anything about the Fiction.

As for the Omni-Tool Blade, while it looks rather silly IMO being entirely Holographic, is perfectly fine given that Omni-Tools can easily manufacture any sort of small simple devices from stored materials.

Most likely, yeah.

XBOX terms Direction + A
PC terms Direction + ....either Space or left ctrl. preferably left ctrl
PS3 terms Direction + X

Thermal clips make perfect sense lore wise. ME 1 style guns overheated and u had to wait like 5-7 secs for it to CD in ME2 that could kill u espcially if your a solider class. So instead of just letting weapons vent the heat they made disposiable heat sinks AKA thermal clips so all they had to do to keep firing was eject a clip which takes 1-2 secs (or nano-seconds for Shep in ME 3 =/) thus higher rate of fire. Of course i guess you could use heat sinks again once they cool off but when your getting shot at picking up white-hot pieces of metal really isn't the best thing to do.

EDIT: would also like to add that in ME marines tend to die as fast as people in CoD MP =/ so all that extra time would probably save alot of lives
