Hi. I've been here before but want to toss it out again as I've run into a few "technical" issues of late.  I'm still a little wary when I "plop" these into my game that I might overwrite something or some other such nefarious stuff.

I've just done a full reinstall of all of BGI and II with TOB.  I then patched TOB and loaded Easy Tutu (full version) and then deleted BGI original install.

Now, I'm ready to start modding in prep for gameplay of BGI/TotSC with an eye on playing all the way thru TOB with he same PC.  Looking for a smart person to tell me what they would do by order of application.

My intended BGI/TotSC mods are:

Unfinished Business (v12)
NPC1 Project (v18)
Baldur's Gate 1 Tweaks (v3)
Level1 NPCs (v1.7)
Hard Times * (don't know if I want to add this or not - please advise)

This is the order I would propose applying them.  Any nay sayers out there?

Also, I note that there is a BG1 Tweaks and a BG2 Tweaks but that both can be used with BGI.  Is there a preference?

For what it's worth when I get to BG II I plan to apply the Fixpack (v9) and Tweaks (v9) as well as Level1NPCs (which I will apply exaclt as I did in BGI for consistency).  I'll also play with the Kivan, Sarah and Gavin NPC mods.  Any thoughts on though strategy are also appreciated but mostly I'm concerned about the 'near-term' target BGI apps now.

Thanks, CKT

Alright, I can give you a link to a Tutu Mod Install/Compatiblity list from G3. However, according to it.
forums.gibberlings3.net/index.php

Hard times goes first.
Unfinished Business is second.
BG1NPC Project is third.
BG1 Tweaks/BG2 Tweaks is fourth.
Last is Level 1 NPC, however, it can go where ever.

Also, I think BG2 Tweaks is actually recommended in the link. However, I do prefer it more, since it does include some BG1 tweaks as well as adds some BG2 Tweaks. Lastly, if you do use BG2 Tweaks I wouldn't install the Montaron assassin component or Khalid Fighter/Mage Component.

Also, for BG2 Mods. It should always go:
Fixpack
NPCs(Any order I would guess. I'm also going to recommend the Crossmod Banter Pack so then, hopefully, Kivan, Sarah, and Gavin will talk to eachother! So thats installed after the NPC Mods.)
Tweaks
Level1NPCs (This one can go anywhere)

No problem, and hope to see you soon on the Minimal Reload Challenge! Also, I'm not sure if Kivan, Sarah, and Gavin talk to eachother since I didn't read the readme for the Crossmod Banter pack.
However, I'm waiting for the update so then Kivan, Xan, and Coran can talk to eachother, but if Kivan, Sarah, and Gavin don't talk to eachother then I recommend getting the Xan NPC for BG2. Since Xan talks to Kivan.

Got it. Heck I've got a long row to hoe before I get to BGII but there's so many good NPCs - I really need seven NPCs in my party to not feel like I left someone out.

Deleting your BG1 original install was a mistake. You may find that you want to start yet again with clean installs. And again. And yet again.

What you should do is copy your patched disk-based installs to a special folder. I call mine "Baldur's Gate Clean Installs."

Then, whenever you want to start over, you copy (NOT move) your clean installs into the right directories (usually C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Black Isle\\Baldur's Gate and C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Black Isle\\BGII-SoA)

Having this good habit will save you a huge amount of time and frustration later, since you will never have to go through a disk install again, what with all the changing from disk to disk and taking 30 minutes and all that.

Alternatively, you could buy the games from GoG.com and have clean installs available online.

BG1 Tweaks is for a BG1 game without Tutu or BGT. When you are using Tutu, you use the BG2 Tweaks, because it works on the game engine version that Tutu is using. With Tutu, only the maps and other content from BG1 are used. It is essentially a BG2 game, only it plays with BG1 content.

I now recommend using BGT (Baldur's Gate Trilogy), because with that, you will not have to worry about managing separate installs and separate modding for BG1 and BG2.

Thanks for the tip BMTH, I think I'll try that. My concern is that I use a very old PC to play on and I try not to put anything on there that I don't need. I pretty much use it solely for game play as my other PCs (and my wife's) are used for business. I always remove the original BG install to save space.

I'm going to do as you say. That WILL make things easier as I'm known for saying, "Aw, what the heck? I'll just start over."

Thanks again for the tip. CKT

If your PC is small but you can afford to buy a separate hard-disk, the last can serve you well as a backup for your clean installs as well as save-games. Though on older usb-ports, copying a whole install might take some time (but much less for clean installs than modded installs).

Knowing how you go about with modding, always trying new approaches, my recommendation for you is Tutu, instead of BGT, or you will have to decide right at the start how your game will be when you've finished the first part and continue into Amn even untill Throne of Bhaal. With Tutu, you can make use of new insights and new ideas before moving on to SOA.

Something I learned first hand I wanted to share. I think it's on BGII Tweaks. I applied the "Higher HP on Lvl Up" option to my TotSC game this weekend which if fine UNLESS you are playing or have a Barbarian in your party. I had used Lvl1 NPCs to make Minsc a Barbarian (from Rasheman).

Anyway, I knew I had a problem when he leveled up 61 HPs from 1st to 2nd level and had 74 HPs at 2nd level.

Then I went back and was reading through the G3 Mod lists and it said right there, "this component will react badly with a Barbarian", or something to that effect.

I can attest that it does so.
