Press response to E3

Anyways, in a sense, I'm hoping that ME3 will make me cry. Not because I'm melodramatic, but because I honestly want to feel that emotion.
Since I already spoiled the child portion, I probably won't cry, but I still hope that there will be later portions in the game that will stir some emotion in me.

I'm sorry but IGN's getting a little too dramatic. It's a video game. Virtual reality, not actual reality. Crying over pixels is pretty sad.

See "Personal Journal" at the bottom of the page. It's written verbatim there.

But I have to say, all the footage was enjoyable. Everything is very cinematic. The lighting is incredible. The krogan female is aww at trying to emotionally distance herself from Shepard and not to give in to hope too much. It was good to see Mordin and Anderson again. Pity we can't see that final moment with the kid when Shepard watches it happen, bet it's heart-wrenching. It's going to be satisfying to gut the enemies with an omni-blade. Papers flying in the air was a nice touch. The delayed shockwave from the explosion in the sky and the fall are incredible. That advancing pissed-off Reaper is inevitable and unstoppable. And Atlas was awesome. I can't wait to take out that pilot. It's going to be like extracting a nut out of the nutshell, yum.
There you go, my very own "press response".

Not trying to be personally insulting PoliteAssasin but why do you feel emotionally above the story of a video game and not a movie, TV show or song?
No offense taken. I'll admit, I may have exaggerated it a bit with the crying over pixels part, but that particular portion wouldn't have really moved me. Maybe it's because it's a random kid - not saying that a random kid who dies wouldn't have an effect on me, but just that in regards to a video game immersion is much harder to achieve than real life. If you had more of an interaction with the kid rather than a one time dialogue sequence, maybe it would make it hit home since you could have been trying to help the kid 2-3 times along the way to the Normandy. That's just me. Maybe another part of it is that I never saw the video. Must be an extended demo that they showed, because the last thing I saw was the Normandy taking off.

I'll agree to that. My first playthrough with DA:O was pretty epic, especially the ending.

As stated above, I admit I was exaggerating. Like I said, maybe It's because I haven't seen the footage that I'm dismissing it as something small.

That's alright, we're all pretty heavily invested in this series. I think from what we've seen, BioWare's implemented RPG features the best possible way into an game where you have a gun and you shoot people.

It looks that way so far. Still can't wait to see a detailed reveal on the systems. I have no problem with it having strong shooter elements, just as long as it has equally strong RPG elements.

i only tear up in either war movies or sport movies
I'll admit I got misty eyed at the end of Black Hawk Down and The Babe. More so with dramatic war movies than sports movies but something about Babe Ruth walking away at the end after the 2nd home run really hit me and with BHD, the music and the farewell message from one of the Delta troopers hit me in the heart like few war movies have. Yeah, I'm a vet but not a war vet but still, I associate and relate with war/military movies more so than sports movies but there are some really good sports movies I'll admitt.
Mass Effect has had some genuinely emotional moments too. Nothing that made me break down into tears yet but some truly joyous and tragic moments aren't uncommon. One of the most joyous was when my femgineer, Alexandria, emerged from the wreckage of the Citadel Tower on my first playthrough. At first I thought we'd see her arm sticking out from under some rubble but then she came running out and I was thinking, "HELL YES!!! SHE MADE IT!!!" One that was truly sad was when I left Kaiden/Ashley (usually Kaiden
So yeah, I'm emotionally invested in this game but there are levels to it. Maybe ME3 will take it to another level. I know when I beat it with my main femshep for the first time I'll be genuinely sad and happy. Happy that I saved the galaxy in some way (I hope) but sad that this epic tale is over.

I tell you what, i dont blame that IGN guy at all. When i saw the conclusion to that scene i almost wanted to shed a few tears myself.
You saw! Is there a video online, could you give a link? I want to cry too!
Since everyone's sharing, here are the moments that almost made me cry in ME2:
1. Saving the Urdnot scout, renegade option. The poor guy is completely broken, he even tells me about the root of his self-doubt.
2. Extracting Cerberus lost operative. "When we applied more invasive methods, he proved resistant to those as well." They tortured him, and still couldn't get anything out of him, and in spite and frustration, they killed him. I'm too late.
Actually, reading the logs always a tear-jerker. That Mordin recruitement mission, where you discover the logs of the now-dead people who died from the plague. "No one should die alone." Wish I could get there sooner! And saving that batarian, for all his agressive and accusing act, he still accepts help from you gratefully - nobody wants to die.
What else...Mordin loyalty mission. The only time I used a paragon interrupt with a light heart. Clearly he didn't want to kill his student. And, hmmm...oh! That moment when Grunt says that he "gets it" and Shepard has no options to be happy for him, I nearly cried.
Anything else...really, the entire Mordin loyalty mission is just heart-wrenching. Also, every time I have to put down a krogan who wants to lead his species to greateness, I just feel sad. Can't we just be allies, krogans and humanity, and the galaxy will tremble before us!

ETA: Oh, no. It was the moron narrating the video that was being an idiot (Hilary Goldstein), not the article writer themself. Sorry about that, Dana Jongewaard, I didn't mean you.

Why does everything have to be acceessible from the get go? When I pick up a geme WITH NUMBER 3 IN THE TITLE I expect there's a lot I dont know about the series...
I hope we won't have "restart" or recap after recap thing.
On the boy: when I saw this I thought: well, hello Newt!
And I am hoping his demise is just one of the outcomes.....despite what the spoilery-spoiler says.

At first, what they were shown during the press conference was disappointing. The on-rails scene was lame. The idea is cool, but the more automated games get, the less fun they are. Which is why the fact that firing the turret doesn't have any visual effect on the reaper, even making it stagger or angry, is lame. Why put that sequence into the game if what you're doing has no effect, and you can't even fail?
But the main editor who saw the Anderson Demo was more convinced after that. It was emotional, hit some cool strings, and Earth looked sweet.
