2.) Garrus: My go-to guy, & all around badass: My combining sniper shots with Tech powers, Garrus was great for taking down enemy defenses. I swear to whoever, he better not die in ME3!!
3.) Wrex: Wrex was the best match as a squaddie when Garrus was in my party: Wrex is Combat/Biotic, while Garrus is Combat/Tech. Also, the whole Turian-Krogan Genophage conflict had created some really interesting conversations when riding on elevators. [BTW: I know he's not permanent, but I still want him dangit!]
4.) Legion: By far, Legion is one of the most needed characters in the story. With him Sheperd may be able to end the Geth conflict.
5.} Tali: Tali is best used as a squadmate when hooked up Liara, they're both nice people & they're powers match.

Then there's the squadmates who weren't LI's but still had lots of fans. Are they gonna get demoted to temporary squad status, or left out in the cold entirely like Wrex? Legion, Grunt, Mordin, Kasumi and Zaeed. (Samara/Morinth would also fit here if not above). It would bother a lot of people if some of these characters got less screen time. But realistically speaking, they're the ones most likely to end up with shorter scripts or end up on the cutting room floor entirely. We've already seen E3 demos that feature Mordin and Legion being NPCs.
And if being a LI doesn't automatically punch their ticket to permanent squad status, is BioWare going to give us a way to interact with our LI's whenever we want?
And there's the new guy they're introducing. He's going to end up on the squad too, making it all the more crowded. Not to mention the fact that a basically random assortment of ME2 squadmates can be DOA when people import their saves to ME3. Basically BioWare has written themselves into a very tangled web (I'm not complaining, I'm just saying) and it's going to be tough to get out of it without making someone angry.
They might end up scrapping the idea of a "permanent squad" entirely. There are just so many characters and save variations.

Joker(I'd love to see him hobbling around the battlefield firing the assault rifle he was weilding at the end of ME2)

i think the decideing factor for bioware was popularity.every squadmate from ME1 or ME2 has a fanbase some are much larger than others.look at the ones who are already confirmed ash/kai,garrus,tali and liara those five charecters consist most of the heavy hitters on these forums the only one who was left out was miranda who will be a squamate no doubt she will just be confirmed at a later date.KingNothing125 wrote...
One of the challenges BioWare faces, I think, is how they separate love interests from squadmates. If you just make a permanent squad out of the LI's, you've already got a really crowded roster: Ashley/Kaidan, Liara, Garrus, Tali, Miranda, Jacob, Jack, possibly Thane (if he's still alive), and possibly Samara/Morinth. If the permanent squad is only made out of LI's, you might as well use this subtitle for the game... Mass Effect 3: The Love Boat. It's probably the easiest solution, but it seems pretty cheesey at the same time.

the rest are a large but not as large.some how bioware crunched the numbers from this website and others and found out who the favs were and those are the ones who will be permanent.
legion mordin and wrex fall into a weird catagory every one seems to like them but from what ive seen they get very little in the way of actual fan support.
not sure what will happen to samara, jack and thane.
jacob, grunt, zaeed, kasumi, morinth IMO will most likely be temps, NPCs or cameos.maybe LI'status will save some of them idk to early to say anything for sure.
this is all speculation anything could happen from here to 2012.

the war effort in gathering and supplying intelligence throughout the
galaxy. Seeing as it's Shepard's job to unite the races of the galaxy,
her place is at his side as they rally their forces against the Reapers.
She's also the only character in the series who can't die in the
series, so I'll let that speak for itself on how important she probably
is to uniting the galaxy to stop the Reapers.
Garrus Vakarian - It just makes sense; he's stuck it out with you since the beginning, and it's obvious he's going to see the journey through to the end with you. He doesn't really have any political ties that can hold him down like most of the other characters do.
Ashley Williams / Kaidan Alenko - These two are soldiers, and their place is on the front line with Shepard. Their Spectre status is also a convenient way to let Shepard and Co. get away with their actions in Citadel space without facing dire ramifications from the Council if his status was revoked in ME2.
Miranda Lawson - She's probably one of the hardest squad members to kill during the Suicide Mission, so I'm sure that speaks well enough for her importance in ME3. Her past ties to Cerberus would probably make her a valuable ally to have against them, seeing as they are now a major enemy in ME3.

I know I'm gonna break a few little hearts here, but according to a closed BW poll a few months ago, Miranda was the most used squadmate of ME2 at approximately 67% usage throughout the game. Garrus was runner up at 50 something, and Thane 3rd at around the same as Garrus.
Jack and Jacob were ranked the last. No surprise there.

I would attribute a lot of that to her powerset, playing on a higher difficulty makes it a necessity to have a squadmate whom has defense-stripping abilities, Miranda is fortunate to have had not only Overload and Warp but also a character power that boosted health and weapon damage. She was a certainly a staple of my Insanity runs because of this. Jack and Jacob, while cool characters in their own rights, can be neglected the not so idea powersets.

That is true. As a matter of fact, all 3 most used squadmates had defense stripping abilities. Fourth was Legion, who had an assault rifle AND a sniper rifle. Best part was, he had combat drones.

this in a way is biased especialy when comparing say miranda or jacob against Legion because most people complete 70+ percent of the game before coming across Legion not to mention he was actualy a optional char miranda was not. im sure if these things were taken in to acount Legion would probably have ranked higher!
ps and while i agree that miandas ability to boost compamions is helpful and has great potential to aid in a insanity playthrough it seems that miranda is always dying way to fast to really F***ING HELP

EDIT: and on the flipside, I find Mordin to be a really entertaining character. Always had something interesting or funny to say... but I NEVER used him on a mission, unless I had to (loyalty mission).

It cant. Most people will use whatever character gives them the most help no matter how uninteresting/annoying they are like Miranda while others will use people like Legion or Thane because " Dey gOtZ de SNIPA! Which makes dem KeWL!"KingNothing125 wrote...
