I need to know if this whole Prothean squadmate rumor is true. Is it going to be exclusive to the Collectors edition? I don't want to miss out on a character just because I can't afford the CE :(

Oh, and hello.

I think meeting the last of its species would awesome. I want to learn about their culture, see what they look like in the flesh (not just some statues), talk to it, and ask it every question imaginable. But either way I'm getting the CE. I loved ME2's CE and ME3's is looking good too.

People assume the squadmember is Prothean because the word is in the title, when they in fact are most likely not connected at all.

I could also see a prothian AI in geth-like chassis, or a prothean VI war drone.

Yup. This.

Now the only real question left is, if we do get a Prothean, will he/she/it be a full fledged squiddie/bugface (ie: like the statues or the collectors), or will he be a disembodied conciousness downloaded onto some synthetic body/construct? I wouldn't mind a mini tank or heavy mech as a squadmate - someone whose sole purpose is to lug around a big guns for big fights.

As I understand the character is Day1 DLC, so you should be able to buy it if its not shipped with your game version.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was some sort of Prothean DLC, but its hard to say how they will implement it at this point, many things can change before release, it is possible that at first they did plan on having a prothean squadmate DLC but then decided against it and claimed it as a typo to cover their mistake or as others have mentioned someone didn't change the advertisement before it was released so the DLC could be a surprise.  So basically what I'm saying is that it is possible that the Prothean DLC was initially planned on but then they changed their minds but someone dropped the ball and didn't make sure the ad was changed.

Another thought is that the "slip" or "typo" could well have been intended as some sort of marketing strategy to get people talking about it and increase speculation or interest in the game, I wouldn't be surprised if Bioware comes back, closer to release date, and says" by popular demand the prothean DLC has been made available", this makes Bioware look like the good guys giving their customers what they want, even though it had been planned from the beginning.

This is why I believe in the Prothean Squadmate. Whether or not its presence is well-explained I won't bother speculating, but it pretty much deals with stasis tubes. It technically wouldn't be impossible.
And as long as s/he isn't the key to defeating the Reapers, but only helps decipher prothean tech that leads to control of Mass Relays and such... well, that actually makes sense without being a Deus ex Machina.

We ARE visiting Mars, after all.

My guess on what is the Prothean's stasis bubbble. Aww, he's in the fetal position in there

Here's how I see it folks - Bioware, and especially Chris Priestly, are usually pretty quick to quash any rumors that are downright false. Case in point, he immediately denied that "the prothean" dlc was a CE exlusive. He did not, however, deny it's existence. There are other examples of the bioware gang putting inacurate rumors, taken as fact, quickly to rest. Alot of people are taking this dlc as fact. I for one hope it's true. More ME = win.

To be honest, when I saw a Prothean dlc character, I facepalmed and sighed at the same time, when I found out it wasn't real, I was relieved. Stupid Idea anyway. Protheans have been extinct for 50,000 years, so for goodness sake just leave it that way.

Prothean could be very interesting. But I think it's more likely we'll get a collector who somehow regained 'sentience'? Or at least, free thinking.

I don't get why so many people are against finding one prothean. Me personally, I say let's bring them back. Sure it's kinda silly, but it's awesome too. I guess it really depends on how it's done. Being DLC, it obviously ism't pivotal to the story, so chillax people.

I'm not sure what to think. :/

Prothean squaddie sounds ridiculous, but I wouldn't mind talking to a Prothean VI at some planet to find out info.

But not a squaddie.

Yeah the Prothean DLC (be it a Prothean squadmate or just a Prothean inspired mission, I'm betting on the former given the name) is definitely real. It wouldn't be on so many CE contents images if it was a half baked idea that wasn't developed.

It was just 'announced' too soon and they are probably unsure whether it'll be bundled with the CE etc.

It's possible the details of the DLC changed as well, but I'm convinced we will have a day 1 DLC character just liked the previous three BioWare games.

If it -is- a Prothean I don't have a problem with it per say, it would have a tragic quality to it as he/she would possibly be the last of their species and unable to continue it through normal means. However it -would- make me question why we never got a Batarian squadmate (seemingly). :(

Same reason we never got an elcor squadmate: too much awesomeness.

Yeah, people are all like "OMG I don't like the fact that there could be living Protheans so all people who do like them shouldn't be able to have a Prothean squadmate". I mean ... Come on people, is it going to harm your gameplay if there is a character that you don't like? Don't recruit him! And its even a DLC character. So ... Don't buy the DLC and save yourself some money. It is perfectly possible that a Prothean could be alive to this day. For crying out loud they built their own MASS RELAY. They were obviously more advanced than today's spacefaring races. Why is it so farfetched that a Prothean could live for 50k years in stasis? Or that one could be cloned? Or that a small population could be living in a system far away from any mass relays? There are loose ends that Vigil left when he said that 13 top scientists went on the Citadel. He doesn't know what happened, but 13 top scientist of a race that can make a Mass Relay can certainly do something as find or build stasis pods. Heck, they could have taken stasis pods from Ilos with them.

A very fair point.

Taking this into consideration, I have come to the conclusion that a Prothean Squad Member or Character is likely, plausible, and not at all stupid.

Screengrab done by gamespot from one of the E3 videos. You can clearly see the figure in the middle of the sphere in the fetal position.

Some sites listed it as a feature on the Collecters Edition.

I think it's a good idea and have enough faith in the writers that it wouldn't be as ridiculous as some of you believe.
It could be possible in the ME universe. Shepard was brought back to life, why couldn't something be in stasis for thousands of years? Only problem would be, why is it the only one if it is Prothean?
