I bought ME1 and ME2 on Steam and I have all of my saved data there, but when ME3 comes out I plan to buy the CE, which I obviously can't get from Steam, so please, please someone tell me my Steam saved games are able to carry over...

:crying:

They are.  Your save games are in a BioWare folder located in My Documents.  They don't have anything to do with Steam.

your saves = on your computer unless you are cloud saving, but you can't because it is exclusive to ValvE.

you can import saves, of course, because by buying from Steam, Origin or whatever, the game install itself at the same damn place.

I bought ME1 from steam and ME2 from a store. The saves transfered fine,  I imagine it will be the same for ME3.

I played ME1 and ME2 in my boyfriends Steam account before buying them for me. I imported my saves from Steam to both games and I had no problems =)

Saves are in My Documents/Bioware/Mass Effect folder.

Actually Steam installs games in a completely different location (DRIVE:\\User\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\GAME NAME) the important bit for importing save games is the location of the save files.

well I don't use Steam so I don't really know, I always buy my PC games boxed. simply need to choose the location, not a problem...

I tend to do the same but some games force steam on you (Total War and Dawn of War 2 being the ones that did it for me :()

Yep, I was worried about this myself but then realised that the save folder isn't one of those special Steam-only sort of things like with their other games (I had minor issues once with a non-steam version of DA:O coupled with a steam-version of DA:A). It's an understandable concern but nothing to worry about thankfully.
