I put the spoiler tag up there but I don't think anyone cares, this game has been out for a while.

So, I'm what you'd call a "noob" (or whatever form of the word you prefer) at Dragon Age. I'm currently on my fourth playthrough, I've never been able to complete it on anything higher than Casual, and my resolution to the Landsmeet has always been to kill Logain and put Alistair in as king.

I used this wonderful thing we call the internet to figure out how I can go about a different resolution to the Landsmeet. I decided the outcome I wanted is for Alistair and Anora to marry and rule jointly, and for Logain to undergo the joining. I completed the quest "Alistair's Family" and talked to Alistair and Anora beforehand and they agreed on marriage. I also won the vote at the Landsmeet (though I don't think that matters).

So I was appalled when Alistair would not agree to marry Anora at the Landsmeet. I searched the Dragon Age wiki and realized that they left out something pretty big in the quest walkthrough. Apparently you have to say "Everyone is out for themselves. You need to learn that" at the end of his quest in order for him to become "hardened."

Now usually I'd just load my last save and try again, but alas, my autosave is after the Landsmeet, and my only other save is after Alistair's quest. I'm on xbox so there's no way of me going through old saves or whatever tricky things you PC players do :)

So.... I'm wondering if there's a way I can turn this around or if my 20+ hour playthrough has been for nothing.

Alright I'm just going to give in and try a different resolution.

If anyone has a way out of my little predicament there feel free to share

I'm pretty sure there are different outcomes for KING Alistair depending on whether he's hardened or not. Hardened I believe is "statecraft", unhardened is "common touch". It should be possible to make him be king regardless of whether he's hardened or not.

Also, you need at least 75 approval with him to get the dialog choice to make him fully hardened after choosing "Everyone is out for themselves. You need to learn that."

If you want to spare Loghain and have Alistair be king, he must be hardened. Otherwise, the only way to have Alistair be king is to kill Loghain at the Landsmeet.

Thanks guys I'll take that in consideration for my next play through. I managed to get Alistair to marry Anora but I had to kill Loghain for this one. I still haven't had Loghain in my party before...

Also after the "everyone is out for themselves" convo, you will have another convo that starts with him saying "You know, I've been thinking..." You must NOT choose "No, that's not what I meant!" or he will not be hardened. All of the other dialogue options should finish the hardening successfully.
