I ponder on this, I think reapers are indepdendent but of course following some kind of codex or whatever.

But what I would love to see in a coming end "fight" a bit like Mass Effect 1 but 100 times as epic. Would be the collected flesh alliance of humans and other rag tag "mutations" the reapers do not like, joined by a rogue reaper or or rogue reaper "faction" . A group of reapers finding their act of mass extermination not valid anymore or simply is "good hearted or neutral" to this fact.

Justice, Judge, Law,  or whatever more silly names we can give them :) Indicating that they are thoughtful or overseeing of a situation and can change their routine to fit.

Not all reapers can be damn bat **** insane can they?

You'd think not since being an AI would imply sentience and thus free will. Yet, like EDI, they seem bound by their programming when they should be able to learn and evolve past it, much like humans evolving past basic instincts. However, they seem compelled by whoever or whatever programmed them to continue the cycle.

Who knows though, maybe there have been reaper dissidents in the past but they were promptly murdered by the rest.

I find it interesting to see. We always see AI's turn against its master. Would be interesting to see one turn against its other "AI" friends for once and join the fleshy. Or in a way it do turn against its creator so it would continue the cycle of rebellic AI but bit twist to it, since it do not become a homocidial maniac :)

I dont think they are insane.

I think they are entirely amoral.

I mean look at it this way; the Reaper's need to Harvest the galaxy in order to procreate and survive the millenia in Dark Space. They also believe themselves to be the highest form of life.

These things combined that every other race in the galaxy is little more than a bunch of talking cows there to be slaughtered and eaten at whim.
Livestock, thats all we are to these creatures.

The reapers arent evil or insane. They just believe (rightly or wrongly) that theirs is the only worthwhile form of life; and the death of everything else is a reasonable price to pay for their continued existance/and to fuel their procreation process.
It isnt a moral act; but from their perspective it is hardly an evil one. Do you consider yourself to be evil (or insane) because you eat burgers? No I dont think so.

At least thats how I see it.

I mean how many Vegans are their in the world exactly? Compared to how many omnivores?

I wouldnt imagine any more than a single percent (less than that) of the worlds population makes the choice to be a Vegan. I'd imagine that it would be very similar to that for the Reaper race.

I know, right? I don't know who started that trend or why it's so popular, but a deviation from it would be nice. That's part of why I loved Legion and the non-heretic Geth. AIs that make their own decisions, and those decisions aren't "kill all organics" all the gd time Image IPB

Presumably their organic component is their intellect, it's not like the reaper takes advantage of the original species' limbs or organs, so what else could the goop go towards , so maybe they're indoctrinated themselves. It would explain why they all think the same way despite being created from many different species.

Interesting. I'd like to point out that cows aren't sentient, but I definitely see where you're coming from. I find myself wondering though, why AIs are always portrayed as beings without morals. I think it could be neat to explore Reapers that have developed morals and are anti-muderjig. Though that certainly would have the potential to turn out gimmicky or very deus ex machina-y.

INdeed, Legion is bit fresher there FrozenFire :D

FitscotGaymer, I think, Had cows been talking and been "social animals" like dolphins...dogs or similar. I think we would not eat them and also. If we ever met a intelligent species aliens or suddenly find a elf in the forest. I am sure we wont eat them :P

Tigerman123, Indoctrinate? Maybe, I still hope there is reapers who think diffrent! :)

@Winterfly.

Ya see humans do eat the "social" animals. The whole stigma of eating dolphin, or dog, or cat, is a western thing that has developed in the last 50 years.
Some parts of the world think Dog is a delicacy.

So you see you cant apply your western morals to everyone and to every situation because it doesnt always fit.

I am not exactly disagreeing with you about the horror of the human race potentially being consumed like a Mickey D's Cheeseburger by an alien species.
My point is that while humanity and the other ME races fufill the requirements of "our" definition of sentience; who is to say that we fufill the Reapers idea of sentience?

I think it's pretty clear we dont.

Remember also we are talking about a society that really only numbers in the thousands (maybe hundreds of thousands) if there are any "vegan" reapers, there is probably only one or two of them in the whole race.
Would that be enough to turn the tide of opinion within the reaper race?

I can apply western morale upon others, just like they apply their morale upon me. But I can also understand their way of thinking, but I do not need to support it. I can simply understand they are diffrent.

If there is a reaper who will turn with the humans. They will know how to destroy a reaper.
