No squad reveals, but I think I'm beginning to get an inkling of who's in and out. I've tried to be as unbiased as possible, but for the record, my favorite squad members are Miranda, Kaidan, Liara, and Mordin.

Zaeed/Kasumi: They couldn't even make it onto the litho. Cameo.

Samara: Only squadmate who can die before the SM. She's basically redundant with Liara on the squad, and Liara's AA seems to be a wink at her. Has promised to kill Renegade Shep if they meet again. Cameo.

Mordin: Seems quite significant on Sur'Kesh. It may be his recruitment mission, but I doubt it. Temporary squadmate or cameo.

Legion: Virtually same style of presentation as Mordin. Temp or cameo, with outside chance of squad status.

Wrex: Heavily implied cameo, but looks like he'll have a lot to do on Tuchanka

VS/Tali/Garrus/Liara: Confirmed as full squad members. Garrus and Tali will be optional by necessity.

Jacob: Really, really unpopular, even among the fangirl contingent. More than one source seems to think he won't be back. Cameo.

Grunt: I think he'll be back. Fairly well liked, not polarizing, and it looks like lots to do on Tuchanka. Full, optional squaddie, but we may get another krogan instead.

Thane: With ME3 taking place 6-12 months later, he should be in failing health. Cameo.

Jack: Dev favorite, lots of opportunity to show off character development and they're already talking about her redesign. Permanent, optional squad member. Maybe.

Miranda: No idea. She was poster girl and you had to try to get her killed. Miranda was also the most used squad member. But Ash looks so much like her, it's possible for a casual observer to confuse them. On the other hand, the temptation of a catfight might be too much to resist. I'll say temp taking down Cerberus but her chances are good for full status. Probably either her or Jack, but not both.

Grunt or new krogan
Either Miranda or Jack

Remaining 2-4 spots to be taken by new people.

I don't think they'd replace Grunt with another krogan though.

Seems spot on except for Jack. Dev favorite or not, making her permanent is just insane, especially if Miranda is not. Makes no sense whatsoever. Also she has her own burning-out problem.

I don't think they'll replace him either. He's a good choice to bring back because he's uncontroversial. And his LM was quite popular on the Xbox.

On the other hand, she promises Paragon Shep that she will return if s/he needs her.

IIRC, BW confirmed that Miranda will return but not as a squad member.
Miranda was the most used because she was uber in combat, and she was the only sentinel in the entire squad. That doesn't mean people liked her. I hate her, but I always take her on missions because she's too damn useful to leave on the Normandy.

Me either. They've been very evasive about Miranda.

And, Ieldra, Jack's neural dengeration is only mentioned in flavor text. We have no idea if or when it will seriously affect her. It's not like the Kepral's. I'm not certain, but I think she has a great chance.

I seem to recall the flavor text in question implying that Jack is getting more powerful rather than being harmed by it.
That said, I consider Miranda to be more likely as a squad mate than Jack, but Jack is a strong contender.

I'm thinking (hoping!) it might work out something like this:

1. Ashley/Kaidan (depending on outcome of Virmire)
2. Liara
3. Garrus*
4. Tali*
5. A choice of Grunt*/Wrex (if he survived Virmire)
6. Love Interest if not 1/2/3/4 (i.e. Jacob/Miranda/Jack/Thane), or another ME2 squaddie if not LI*
7. James Vega

* provided they survived the Suicide Mission

I'm thinking it will be something along the lines of:
1. Ashley/Kaidan

4. Tali/Legion (depends on final outcome of geth/quarian war)

6. New Human Female (possible N7, it was mentioned we will see other N7 operatives)
7. New alien character (possible unused race, batarian, etc)
8. Returning ME2 Squadmember

10. DLC character

I doubt Miranda and Jacob are sent to the dustbin. As LIs, Bioware would be deliberately annoying many, many players if they decided they gave certain LIs significant roles but arbitrarily ditched others.

Miranda and Jacob will be back in roles that allow the player to continue the romance. It doesn't necessarily need to be a squad role but I strongly suspect that it will be.

Thane is a little trickier since his death would not be arbitrary but was strongly stated. Still, with ME3 happening so shortly after ME2, I suspect he is also in game in a squad role.

The "your LI always returns" option would be a lot of coding, animation, and VO would be a lot of work and disc space for little gain. I'm betting LI status is irrelevant. And we'll see more than one new person.

I really, really don't think Jacob will be back in a major way. He seems to be very unpopular. And I don't think they'll be fair. They haven't been fair. Liara got reconciliation in LOTSB. VS got email

If the LI only returned for those players who initiated a romance, it would be a waste but they'll be brought back for everyone (if they lived). That they are potential LIs will, imo, definitely not be irrelevant - Bioware does do fanservice and I highly doubt they would allow some players to get emotionally invested in a character just to yank them but reward others by having their own LI return.

They've seen the howling over Ashley not returning in ME2 beyond a cameo, even though they were always going to bring her back in ME3. I can't see them harshly terminating other romances for no reason.

Well, the two DLC squadies gone. Samara gone. Mordin gone. Legion gone. Grunt probably gone. Plus one same-sex LI (another guess) Mr. Vega. That's a smaller squad.

Now, I can accept that some LIs might not have full squad roles. It will have to be equal among sex (trust me, femsheps would flip if they lost 2 LIs) so that would likely be Jacob and Miranda, especially since Cerberus indoctrinated in ME3. Still, if they are removed, there will be a full opportunity to continue the romance at some point, imo.

However, I'm still not sure how they will pull that off without pissing someone off. It will have to be well-done. I can think of a few ways they could handle things but they would be pure guesses and undoubtedly wrong.

CE advertising refers to AAs for Ash, Kaidan, Liara, and Vega. It's Liara.

And I think we'll see a fair number of new people. Especially a batarian.
