To those asking if it can be turned off, I'm assuming you've already played Mass Effect 2 and are just now realizing it had aim assist. So how exactly did it feel weird if you never noticed it before?

This.

There was a setting in the options menu in ME2 for aim assist.

Interesting... I'll have to check that. You said it was tuned down? Is that configurable in the coelesed.ini?

I've always noticed. I never knew there was an option to turn if off because I have not seen an option to turn it off. I'll have to look again to make sure. I play on an x-box and it is far more difficult. Whenever I am sniping, I'll try to pull off a head shot only to have another enemy run into the scope and dissappear causing me to shoot into a wall.

At least give us an option to turn if off. I don't need help aiming.

It also exists on the PC verson of ME2... it's turned down a bit more on PC though, since it's generally a lot easier to aim with the mouse.

Could you make it adjustable so I can turn it back up?

Zoom snap already exists in ME2, it's one of several different types of aim assist that we had. :happy:

lol oh, well i guess its well done and subtle!

kudos to you guys!

the super exaggerated ones like in CoD tend to make gameplay alot less fun.

Actually it was very badly implemented in ME:2 and Bioware are aware of it, so hopefully they've fixed it for ME:3.

There have been numerous threads about it For example.

Look at the video's in the thread to get some idea of how bad it can get and why people have asked for a toggle to turn it off.

Google found this post by Bogsnot:

[SFXGame.SFXGameConfig]

bAimAssistEnabled=false

also, when set to true, these settnigs take effect

[SFXGame.SFXModule_AimAssist]

GlobalFrictionFactor=1.0f;

GlobalAimCorrectionFactor=1.0f;

GlobalAdhesionFactor=(X=0.75,Y=0.5);

EnemyMovementAdhesionFactor=0.75;

Now, not every setting in the coalesed does something but it looks like you can crank it back up.

Indeed...

Me: Excellent!  Three enemies are right near that explosive canister! (Quickly zooms in on the canister only for Zoom Snap to drag the crosshairs to one of the enemies. Then after fighting to get the crosshairs back on the bloody canister there's now only one enemy next to it and I've just lost a perfect chance to do damage to multiple enemies.)

I want a toggle for it in-game. Personally I won't EVER use it and I don't want the game to be easy.. especially on Hardcore and Insanity modes (where "it's" at) If I am behind cover and aim. I don't want to automatically look at an enemy. I want to look in the general area of my enemy when I'm behind cover and when I aim, I end up looking at the enemy because of my own eyesight and aiming skill. For hardcore players like me who have stuck with CoD, Medal of Honor, Goldeneye 007, Halo, Gears of War, Crysis, Battlefield, and many other shooters that have many die-hard players. I believe that a challenge in even subtle features should be present. Especially knowing that the enemy AI is more mobile as well, it gives the players controlling Shepard the chance to prove their worth. To me, it's all about taking player skill into account and making it count in a firefight. Killing waves of enemies and bosses then knowing that you did that with your tactics and skill is a reward and morale booster on it's own. "One hell of an anesthetic"

Well if you choose to play on console, I guess this is your punishment. If you are serious about aiming and all, play on PC.

Ah, PC Elitism at its finest.  Well done you.  You must be right.  Playing a game on a Computer instead of a Console magically makes you a better person...

 Not my suggestion, but a friend of mine's.

In Call of Duty, if you quickly press the aiming button near an enemy(but not directly on them), you can "snap" on to them to quickly shoot them down or aim at body parts for the same effect.

He suggested something similar for ME3. I know how snap on aiming works in CoD but I don't know if its necessary in ME3. Thoughts? I'll let him know what you guys said.

No hard feelings, just tell him to go back to Call of Duty. <_<

ME and ME2 on Console already have some sort of aim assist, and that's enough :lol:
And absolutely HELL NO for PC, I love aiming with my mouse!

I already turned it off (plus any smoothing) in the ~condalescent.ini for ME2. I hate auto-aim with M+K. Please provide an option to deactivate those in ME3 too.

:huh:

The experiences are different, just like the controllers are different. If you were playing with a controller on the PC, you'd probably want to take advantage of the aim assist settings. The goal of all of these settings is to make the experience feel good regardless of platform.

Different settings are required for different types of interfaces... That's just a simple fact. I don't see how that reflects poorly on any platform.

Thanks. Good to know the developers know that one platform isn't superior to another.

Though, I'd like the option to turn the aim assist off or to a lower level of...effectiveness, and have the sensitivity bumped up a bit.

Because there have been times when the reticule snapped to an enemy I didn't even want to shoot at.

I may not be playing with a mouse, but that doesn't mean I need all the help in the world.

Makes me wonder how a ME game would run on 60fps.
