So, Lord Commander Hudson keeps on saying how there will be fewer squadmates but more depth...is it true?

What do you think?

He means there will be fewer squadmates but each one will have more dialogue and character development. And frankly, I wouldn't have it any other way.

indeed.

Quality before quantity. Just the way I like it.

I don't know maybe there are fewer members but deeper customization options for those characters. I remember hearing something about being able to choose versions of skills. Maybe there is an increase in the branching of the dialog trees. Maybe characters gain bonus or abilities based on specific dialog chains which are not necessarily related to P/R values.

I'm guessing 8 squadmates (up to 2 more DLC squadmates if they do this). (BTW I love how Norman calls them 'henchmen' - it doesn't feel appropriate though..)

The rest will appear in at least one major instance in the game, with at least some of these being temporary squadmates for main missions (just not as fully explorable characters on board the Normandy - not to say that some *won't* be on the Normandy, as they could still join on board).

Still a ton of voice actors to pay, but some will have less lines than a squadmate would in previous games, and some will have more than before. Still just as many characters in the game.

Basically, expect characters like Samara, Kasumi (if she somehow doesn't join as a full member), either Grunt or Wrex, etc to have a Lair of the Shadow Broker type of involvement in the game, instead as a full character. Doesn't even mean they won't be on board helping you - just that they won't be your go-to ground team most of the time, and won't have a huge overall focus on in the story and dialogue.

Let's just say your squad is being..... "streamlined" *runs for cover*

No. Quality would have meant that all the characters would have gotten depth. Rather than just give some characters depth, and some characters cameos.

I dunno how you can define seeing half a dozen of characters as cameos without depth as "quality" rather than "quantity".

Haha, well..in this case, I like that. 10-12 is just too much, unless they take the route of allowing 3 squadmates with you at a time (which they won't).

They've announced 5 already, I'd wager that there are 3 more to go. At least one of them from a previous game.

If its Legion on Rannoch, Mordin on Sur'Kesh, Samara on Thessia - all as temporary squadmates, and even with temporary stays on board the Normandy - if this happens, I'm TOTALLY ok with that. (even though I love Legion...sniff..)

Well....you don't exactly know how they are going handle the characters....so....yeah.

Fewer squadmates makes it easier to write stuff like banter, give them more abilities so they aren't clones, and generally improve the game.

Since when was "easier" or "faster to make" a sign of "quality" ?

I'll be interested in seeing the dynamics of what happens to those slots for characters that died on the Suicide Mission. For example, who'll accompany you on the Female Krogan mission if Mordin died?

Whatever666343431431654324 wrote...

My guess is that we'll lose the non-LI. So off the squad:

Mordin (we already saw him in a non-squad role)
Legion (we already saw him in a non-squad role)
Grunt
Samara
Zaeed
Kasumi

What if most of the LIs were killed off, but most of everyone else lived (like those you listed there)? Will definitely be interesting to see how the dynamics are handled.

Because they can pack more stuff in with 6-8 people than they can with 10-12 people.

Or... They could have taken the time and money to pack the same depth in with 10-12 people as with 6-8 people.

It's a cost savings thing. Nothing else.

Well, I think that the roster will be around 8 squad members in every team (so the squad members will be 9, since we can't have both Kaidan and Ash). We have already 5 confirmed SM (VS, Liara, Tali, Garrus and Vega) I think that we'll get a new female companion, and two other ME2 squadmates. I think the most probably for returning will be Grunt. The other spot, I really don't know.

There is only a finite amount of time and money devoted to any project.  Resources are not infinite, as anyone running a project is aware, and scope creep is a killer.  BW could have gone either way, but realistically not both; I am very pleased BW is going for quality over quantity.

I can certainly see it as possible that an LI will be given a non-squad role but I can't imagine Bioware not letting the player conclude the romantic arc. And considering that your ME1 LI and ME2 LI will apparently fight over you, Bioware is going to face a wall of rage if they don't give them all fair treatment. It will be of DA2 epic proportions.
In the video interview I can't remember which one ATM, they
He did say that even though they may not be in your party there will still be romance content with them though, something along these lines if I remember correctly

Oh of course. Why not also wish for world peace, the cure for cancer and domesticated dinosaurs for everyone, while we're at it?

Ah, perfect. So I see the early howling about Miranda has a basis in fact.  Thanks very much Issac.

I think that world peace, curing cancer, and ressurecting a genus millions of years extinct to fill a role as house pets is slightly higher on the scale of improbable events that say, a video game company devoting a bit more time and money into expanding the amount of exposition in their game. Just by a teensy bit.
