Besides, isn't it already confirmed that we're getting a new female squaddie? Someone voiced by Emily Hopkins, labeled as Vigilante?

It wouldn't be the first time an easter egg turned into actual game content (a few of the Mortal Kombat characters started out as easter eggs or gliches)Kenzie1100 wrote...
I'm pretty sure the 'James' in the e-mail is a reference to a member of Bioware that was leaving at the time, so I'm not sure weather the E-mail James is even a game character, or just an easter egg letter.

God no, please no. I don't know whether you were in the Dragon Age 2 forums when they announced that your brother/sister will die depending on the class you chose, but the outrage was very powerful. Nobody wants to feel like they've had a choice removed from them for something they didn't even know would happen... especially if that choice was a squadmate.Fathom72 wrote...

Not impossible. Would be nice to have a character connected to Ashley, especially if she didn't survive Virmire... Maybe we'll get a certain turkish biotics user as another Squadmate to balance things out for Kaidan.
Think of the Love triangles!
Hmm. Didn't even think of something like that. Yeah, having Nirali as a squaddie would be cool.
If it did turn out this way, bioware would be able to replace Ash/Kaidan with someone who had a similar skillset, with connections to you former squaddie. Seems like it would work really well.
What would happen if people hate Ashley but love Vega and Kaidan? They won't be able to get both. Either they should have this Nirali as a squadmate no matter what or not at all

She wasn't the only survivor, as Jacob Taylor was also on Eden Prime and was in the same division as Ashley http://masseffect.wi...ontier_DivisionNorthern Sun wrote...

No, you weren't. But Fathom seemed be implying the idea of completely replacing squadmembers based on who survived Virmire in order to get both balanced skills and an equal story.Shinannigan wrote...

No one said that you'd only get either Vega or Rahna. They could still give you both of them, just with different dialogue (i.e. either mooning over a lost love that never quite was or competing with Shep for the Ash/Kaidan's affection).

I know. That's why I said they should avoid the "if" situations and focus on "both", "none", or a character that provides completely different experiences depending on the actions. Like being either BFFs with the virmire survivor or in a possible relationshipFathom72 wrote...
^ Well, you'd still get that, even if you got both Vega and Rahna.

Rahna better stay away from my Shep and his Kaidan! I'm dropping/killing her at first occasion if she's a squadmate

I don't think that's really the best way to rebuild your relationship... But I'll let Kaidan handle the payback.

Aw, shucks. Thanks!
I was thinking that this could also tie into the repercussions bioware was talking about if you cheated on the VS during ME2. I.e., when the game starts, Ash is already with Vega, and if you want to win her back, you have to go through some extensive character interaction.

I was more referring to the 212 itself, rather than every other marine on Eden Prime.Paul Sedgmore wrote...

I'd love it. That would actually make the repercussions far more interesting than remaining loyal. I might have to cheat on my ME1 LI every time.
So now that we figured this out, what happens with Liara? Who is she with if you cheated? I'd love for it to be Wrex. That'd be some serious competition...
And I'd like those two to hook up anyway a couple of centuries down the line, when everyone else is long gone.
