I approve this plan. 

edit: Rahna was not Kaidan's girlfriend just an interest and it went away after the incident. She would be back to create dramatic tension and my Shep is going to nip THAT is the bud. No killing needed. *puts on renegade intimidate glare*

Well, yes, but that doesn't affect anything.  Either way, his first name is James, and thats all the guy in the e-mail is referred as.

I thought the James mention in the emails was "Shepard"

Maybe he named his Shep James. I could see a mistake like that happening, if that was the case.

So you're going to tell her that she's forbidden to date Kaidan? 'Cause that strategy has never resulted in the opposite...
I personally would take the high road, especially if my Shep had hooked up with someone else in ME2. Kaidan's a smart boy, he'll know what he has in Shepard.

This is an interesting idea, OP.

I'd love if something so tiny as an email released for characterisation purposes before ME1 was used to generate a character for ME3.

It would be an interesting reunion, for sure. That being said all my playthroughs have Kaidan surviving Virmire.

I'm interested in seeing how they introduce James Vega. The new kid, somewhat experienced in combat but 'naive' towards galactic affairs? Suuure, out of the 8 billion humans in existence, he's the best choice to help Shepard rally allies out of the aliens and save the galaxy.

That's an interesting point. Perhaps he's introduced in the trial as a friend of Anderson's? Or escapes onto the ship with the VS after helping them survive? 

In any case, it's probably true that he isn't the most diplomatic of companions. I too wonder how they'll explain his part on Shepard's team.

Rahna seems a bit of a stretch and from what Kaidan said in ME1 she's not the military type. I suppose that doctor he mentioned could be a possibility if she was respec-ed to field medic+sniper.

Anyway James could easily be a friend of Ash's in either VS scenario. If Ashley is alive he's her current LI or good 'friend'. If she's dead James is a solider who served with Ash and Kaidan recruited him.

...yeah basically James is the VS's Garrus.

James was originally named something else wasn't he? Then his character was leaked so they changed him to a Spanish dude with the name James Vega if I recall correctly. I think it's just coincidence.

the name james in that email is a reference to a bioware employee.

its a coincidence that vegas name is also james.

He actually tells you his father's last name is Sanders after you meet Kahlee Sanders.

I think it is a different James.

Vega and Ashley never have any dialogue that indicates they served together prior to being aboard the Normandy.
