omg can't believe they lied to us. 3drealms said that it will be like in
90s (the time when bad comics were in
the top of the line). point is it is not like in 90s. they copied the
boring halo and it's bad 2weapons mechanics. they put driving
minigames. duke nukem sounds like grandpa. it is a consolised linear
shooter, like cod or halo.
it was 15 yeas. in 15 years i have seen
michael biehn's career becoming worse and worse. in 15 years i have seen
the rise of bioware's brilliant mature games. in 15 years i have become
15 years older.

dark knight was released in 2008 and ity was the BEST MOVIE EVAH. did they lied to us? of course no.

24, kiefer sutherland, action, los angeles, top guality drama. 8 season, 2001-2010.

what did 3drealms did while 24 was on the air? they maked this sorry
excuse of a game while 24 continued it's 10 year run. again it's a major
misstep in video game industgry as large.

william shatner won
best supporting actor. natalie portman won oscar. uwe boll unleashes his
wrath upon us.  michael biehn carrer goes down.

what did broussard did? he waited all these years to copy ideas from other games.what else? he took 3drealms down the in bancruptcy

duke nukem forever is a victim of some of the worst that modern shooters can offer. he gets victimized by
incompetent people who lies that it is 90s when in reality it is 21st
century game.

but bewbs only can't make game seem like made in the 90s. did i get the feeling that it was made in time when todd mcfarlane released the biggest crime against humanity - ''youngblood''? NO.

did i get the feeling that it was made at the time when the first issue of xmen sold like 2 mil copies? NO.

my point? this game was supposed to send us back to that dark age, when unbelievable bad and dark&gritty comics were in top of the line. when image got big because of ''spawn'' (btw, cool art, but bad storyie).

did i get the feeling that this was made in time when we had cartoons with skateboard dinosaurs, extreme sharks, steroid eating muscle buffons at the top of the line? HELL NO.

it is not from that dark age. it is not.

and i am trying to prove a point that the game simply is not like made in the 90s. developers said it was supposed to be like in the 90s. guess what? it is not like in 90s.
they lied

point was the game supposed to make me feel like back at the times when i was reading those bad comics which were top of the line, and after reading them, i would play some good duke nukem 3d. point was also, that it was supposed to feel like back in 90's where skateboarding dinosaurs in cartoons were the normality. biggest pont is = it was supposed to feel nostalgia and like you are back in time playing this game, after which you would watch your favorite extreme shark cartoon.

i referenced 24 (2001-2010) because to show that world has progressed, and while guality tv show has ended, duke nukem forever still is stealing ideas.

star wars prequel trilogy ended and boussard still cant release the damn game.

people won oscars and george boussard still stoles ideas and cant release the game.

of course skateboarding dinosaurs and street sharks were not in the top of the line ANYMORE, so times have changed and they had to change the game, but by doing that they lied to us that it would be like the 90s. get it? i hope so.

employee of 3drealms said that boussard, when new game come out, freguently would come to office and say ''i need this new feature'' again and again and again. they couldn't take the man seriously. well it got seriously when they ran out of business.

now get it? ok

So what you are saying is the game should have been campy and chock full o' antiquated game design concepts. I can understand that. The problem is "Duke Nukem Forever" was meant to be another evolution in the franchise. The reason was almost indefinitely delayed was because George Broussard was obsessed with making lightning strike twice. Of course the game would seem derivative of other shooters after such a long wait.

Whatever chance he had for incredible innovation has likely slipped through his fingers, no humor intended, forever. Knowing that, I think expecting DNF to be a trip down nostalgia lane was an unrealistic expectation. Keeping the DN's franchises er... "charm", and not bringing it into the modern era to entertain a modern audience would have been folly. I am sure they want to bring as many new fans into the fold as entertain the old base.

Maybe they should have included vampires from space? B)

innovation is not 2 weapon limit, almost no exploration in levels, boring mini games etcetc. you know most people sold on that it would be like the 90s, and even some review sites point out that it is a low point that it was not like in 90s because you know why? duke nukem himself makes a joke about modern shooters in this game, when in reality he IS IN A MODERN GAME. sweet smell of an irony.

My point is Broussard never wanted to make a nostalgia game. He wanted to do something new and innovative. And yes, he failed. That was inevitable after such a long wait. Knocking DNF for not kindling your nostalgia is a stretch when it never meant to be a 90s throwback.

So wait, Stynes... are you complaining that the game is not 90s enough, or that it's stuck in the 90s? Because on the one hand, you're saying the game should have been more nostalgic based on developer comments, but on the other, you're complaining that the game isn't innovative or competitive with modern games.

I'm giving you one chance to actually explain your position before deciding whether to shut down the thread for developer bashing and/or trolling.

LOL didn't even notice it was out. Thats how little I came to care about Duke Nukem... a shame really because 10 years ago I would be all over this. I even got early access through my Borderlands purchase and I never even bothered to activate it.

BTW with my 24 obsession your making me look tame.
Protip: quit bringing it up when its not relevant it makes us look bad

i mean that developers didn't maked the game enough 90s, and while gaming industry as a large was moving ahead, they TOOK ideas from modern shooters and it SLOWLY MORPHED INTO ONE, meanwhile at the same time game has inside jokes about modern shooters, despite that it was a MODERN SHOOTER.

sweet smell of irony is that it is not different that COD or HALO, but with dirty jokes.

it betrayed us duke nukem fans in terms of gameplay, meanwhile making fun of modern shooter gameplay and MAKING us to believe it would be like in the 90s.

so yes, it is not ENOUGH 90s

Calm down with the caps.

I do however agree. Duke Nukem though I THINK was already finished the single player campaign when Gearbox got to it so they did their best. I would have liked it to have been more 90's and have bigger maps and branching paths. Not linear one way to go. This picture comes to mind.

Actully short of an exclusive demo, its not. The game isn't out untill the 14th. Which makes me wonder how anyone can say it sucks or any details on main game level design or mechanics, when given the demo doesn't cover much.  His whole Rant seems to come from some illusion of what the 90's were, rather than any public information.  And I find it once more funny so many people are jumping on said band wagon when well no one has seen it at large.

The OP can't even form a rational thought, nevermind mind make a decent critic, or having had that exclusive look at the demo, thats reserved for people who orderd the BoS edition.

It is out, it arrived here a few days ago; though I haven't installed it yet since I'm not in a gaming mood at present.

I agree about the '90s being idealised, though.

Edit: though I see it's not out on the US yet.  The official release date in Europe was yesterday according to Wikipedia, although Wikipedia says a lot of things: it was released for delivery around the beginning of the week.
