My only problem with this game is poor optimization.

I mean seriously, I played Crysis 2 on same PC on medium graphics with slight frame rate issues, while Duke Nukem Forever with his 2005 graphics, frame rates are horrible.

Didn't play the originals as I was 3 and playing this it was no worse than most FPS games, cheesey but I didn't expect it to blow my mind. This though, could have been great.

Question, has anyone really played the game to deliver an accurate critique on whether it sucks or not?

Frankly, while I'm at a lost as to what the OP's complaint really is, I'm more puzzled by the conundrum that is Duke Nukem Forever. 15 years in development! 15 years! How could people allow such a travesty? I've read up on what happened behind the scenes, but I'm still surprised that all of it happened the way it did. George Broussard (3D Realms founder) just sat on his ass for 15 years while his game and his company became a joke, and he got paid for it too. Meanwhile many of the programmers who worked for him saw their careers stalled by working on a game that was constantly delayed. Is it any wonder many of them left?

If I ever encoundtered Broussard on the street, I'd like to ask him "Was the wait really worth it?"

Boring Halo? If I recall, Halo has a massive storyline that spans over the course of three games whereas The Duke Nukem Series (****** on the king baby!) are just about having sex with hookers. As for COD, that doesn't even have any decent storyline and even on a hard difficulty, the game lasts about 3 hours whereas a Halo game on Legendary difficulty would last for about 10 hours.

Don't compare Halo to Duke Sh*ts Forever or Call of Sh*ting.

i dont idealise 90s. 90s had cartoons about rapper dogs, skateboarding dinosaurs, extreme sharks etcetc. and green lantern ABSOLUTELY sucked in 90s(that's a fact). but my point is this game should had sent us back to that time, and to feel nostalgia about these dark times when rapper dogs, secret agent frogs, skateboarding dinosaurs were in the TOP of the cartoon market, but it didn't.

Why not just play Duke Nukem 3D instead, then?

because i don't want to replay it 10th time. i've replayed it  but i want new duke adventures, more pigcops, more weapons, bigger levels, bigger bosses, pure oldschool, cat-skateboardists and dinosaur rappers thrown in for good measure. 3drealms missed a boat on that one.

the thing with Duke Nukem Forever is that it was never intended to be a nostalgia trip, it became its own beast a long time ago

for nostalgia trip back to the 90's tho, i don't think anything will be able to top Twisted Metal this year

The reviews mainly lead me to can my preorder, now I might get it later on this summer when its cheaper, reviewers aren't always right I mean plenty gave the Overlord games bad reviews, where as I enjoyed them. But its not something I want to risk 50-60 bucks on. I still plan on getting it, but not at 60 bucks with its reviews mounting to 6's and 7's. Overlord I risked, as at that time it wasn't but $20, so if the reviewers were right and its crap, I won't be throwing alot of money away. THQ and Homefront did that to me, and I was pissed about it having been looking forward to that title all year. Duke even more so, so when I get it, it will be when its cheap, so if worse comes to worse I can just shrug. But most of the non-political issued reviewers seem to mainly be jumping on it for game mechanics, those with political views on the matter I take with a grain of salt. But game mechanics are a big issue for me.

As to 3d Realms,....that company turned into a running joke for more than just Duke. Though reviews have been unfavorable it would be a shame to see Duke get burried, but then again the wrong company was running with it, the most noteable game they pulled off was borderlands, and you have mixed opinions on it.

Oh wow what a surprise, Duke Nukem Forever turned out to be crap, who would have guessed? That being said I have not played the game nor do I actually plan to and those who allowed themselves to be suckered into buying this crap deserve to be disappointed.

I think it's like Guns N' Roses' Chinese Democracy : 15 years in the making and once it's out you realise the band looked pretty silly in the first place.

HA! They gave Dragon Age 2 a 94. Either the review was bought by EA or they like bad games.

This.
They even The Witcher 2 LESS than Dragon Age 2 (89%), and that's Bulls**t.
(although i don't know if it was a different reviewer)

calm the hell down kid, i have also been waiting for this FOR YEARS, and i am disappointed, they turned into a stupid current shooter, with damn cover system, with only two guns to carry, Health Regeneration, etc...
they DESTROYED the legacy of Duke and turned the game into a modern "Realistic" generic shooter.

Another critic from PC Gamer though did say in DA2's comment section he would have gave DA2 an 80.

LOL you would be happy with it if they put a turd in a box and packaged it as Duke nukem.  It doesn't matter how bad it might be if its Duke Nukem then all is forgiven.  Sorry but Duke Nukem fans are saying it sucks.  One guy on youtube played for 40 minutes hated every minute.
But your right we youngsters who played Duke Nukem 3D 15 years ago wouldn't know anything about that.

maybe the OP has a point. I have read several reviews so far that say the graphics are dated, the gameplay is a bit glitchy and it says the game bashes Halo a few times but also uses it's mechanics making it hypocritical

From what I'm hearing the humor is there and there is some cool things. What I'm hearing is that everything is on rails. Your hand is held the entire time and its one minigame after another. The guy I watched in youtube hated the driving part as mini nuke and the turrent shooting down the mothership was boring too. Lots of forced to watch boring people talk about the story and it takes forever before you even get a gun.
Now I may be a bit jaded on Duke Nukem seeing as its been forever but If I recall it was about kicking ass in different ways. It looks like the worst bits of Call of Duty and Halo with the funny put in. Hell from what I've seen the humor isn't even that good. Duke's one liners got old and I haven't even played it.

Way to generalise dude. I was 20 when this game was announced in 1997. I'm 34 now and I've played a lot of great games in the interim, from SW: KOTOR, Ninja Gaiden, Jade Empire, Mass Effect 1 & 2, Red Dead Redemption, Batman: Arkham Asylum, etc.

I've had a nice and fulfilling gaming life in the 15 years George Broussard sat on his ass and let the gaming world mock his game mercilessly. Hell, I liked Duke Nukem 3D, but it's no skin off my back that Duke's return is less than stellar.

no no you misinterpret me. this game was supposed to be the throwback to 90s. time when good games and bad cartoons existed.

games was supposed to feel like in times when cartoons had rapper dogs and skateboard cats, which was in the top of the market.

but no it fails at that. it doesnt FEEL LIKE MADE IN THE 90s. it is not a product from that bygone age called the 90s. it is not from the SAME TIME when green lantern became the villain, then died, later becomed as some kind of hippy (i know it is spoiler BUT NO ONE SANE PEOPLE WOULD READ GREEN LANTERN FROM 90s. PEOPLE STOOD IN PICKET LINE FOR GREEN LANTERN BECAUSE 90s GREEN LANTERN SUCKED).

do you understand now? game was supposed to make us feel nostalgic for these things, when we thought it was cool for dinosaur ninjas to be in cartoons. i don;t want bad 90s game, i want a GOOD 90s game with a throwback to cat-skateboardists, dinosaur ninjas, dog rappers etc.

Your obsession with cat skateboarders and dinosaur ninjas, dog rappers is crazy.... I don't even remember that.  If I want a game that makes me nostalgia of the 90s I'd pull out my SNES or something.  Give me a break I don't even care about the subject here but your need for this game to meet a standard that only YOU have about it silly.

no i want the game to make me remember cat skateboarders, dog rapper, dinosaur ninjas, stuntman's as sharks. this game is a poop without a BIG nostalgia factor. broussard lied. he lied the game woudl be roxxor. 15 YEARS. at least they could have got nostalgia right.

90s had awful comics, with 90s Youngblood, Spawn, it introduced Deadpoool (who sucks even till this time).

i want my dinosaur ninjas, cat skateboarders, dog rappers, extreme shars. it was reality at that time.
