WARNING CONTAINS MASS EFFECT EVOLUTION SPOILERS!
So in the gameplay demo of ME3, we see the batarian-human husks take cover and attack from range, displaying a greater intelligence than the standard human husks seen in previous games that just rushed to melee the player.
In Evolution, the Arca Monolith creates meta evolved versions of whoever makes contact with it that still retain their full intelligence, can talk and even have free will as evidenced by Ben though not when the Monolith is in danger.
So my questions are, what purpose do these variations of husks serve, and why are they different. Why haven't we encountered intelligent husks before? And why did the Reapers plant these Monoliths in the first place?
Discuss anything and everything to do with husks!

Probably seem more intelligent as the reapers are there so they are easier to control directly?

I think that the Arca Monolith created Husks that retained their intellect because it needed something more than mindless slaves to look after it, I suspect the degree of husk intelligence depends on the device that creates them i.e: Dragon Teeth=mindless Husks Arca Monolith=Sentient Husks bound to protect it etc..."merged" husks like Scions, Praetorians and Cannibals I have no idea.

The events of Evolution take place before the Reapers arrival. And I don't believe the Reapers control the husks directly, we've been shown no evidence for this.Demigod wrote...
