We see discussion in the news regarding a fleet with unknown intentions massing above earth, people are talking about it on the ground, but where are Earth's defenders? Only a fool would leave the home world unprotected. There apparently are no orbital defenses, no carriers, no fighters, no heavy cruisers, and no dreadnaughts, so where the heck are they?

Was there a battle at the Charon relay? Is that was destroyed the fleet protecting Earth? If so, then why is everybody on Earth surprised? Or is the newest video only to be taken with a grain of salt? Many questions and darned few answers.

I never expected the Alliance fleet to survive the initial invasion, but I certainly didn't think that they would be swept away like so much vapor either. We know that ground forces are present and fighting, but it would appear that they cannot hold. Major population centers are being cleansed of inhabitants and then the attack will spread to the rural areas in the final stages of the assault, but will that even be necessary with Reaper indoctrination? How long does it take for indoctrination to take hold?

The only thing that we know for certain is that we are on the clock and time is not our ally. We can assume that the Citadel has not fallen because we can still gate to other systems, but how long that will last is anybody's guess. Also unknown is the status of strategic weapons also known as weapons of mass destruction. If ever there were a time to use them, it is now. However, weapons conventions of the Citadel may have banned them for charitable reasons.

Regardless, I was only mildly annoyed by Councilor "air quotes' refutation of the Reaper threat. Now, I want to rub his face in it.

It was stated during E3 that the Alliance fleets had been recalled to Earth. Most of the ships were subsequently destroyed with all other ships in full retreat out of the Sol system.

Without Shepard, Earth is doomed. Be thankful humanity that Shepard's parents had the urge for breed, and they bred a hero.

It's probably that large debris cloud orbiting the Earth.

As Dark Star said a lot of the Alliance fleet were recalled to the Sol system as shown in this video . As for the rest of the fleet they would likely be stationed at the Mass Relays leading to the major human colonies.

have you noticed how much firepower was needed to destroy one occupied reaper in the first place? There were hunders of reapers descending on earth. It is safe to assume that the fleet Protecting the earth was obliviated by them...

Actually if you watch the gameplay from E3, there is a Cruiser that gets shot down by a Reaper while Shepard is escaping to the Normandy.

It also may be the case that the Reapers employ total communications black out when attacking Arcturus station/the Alliance fleet.

Or it may be that the Reapers bypassed the Relay entirely and they had an idiot at the news station immediately when the Reapers were detected and they broadcasted that little segment.

Any surviving ships are most likely in retreat, my guess would be that the ships that survived the Reaper siege will be waiting to join the forces that Shepard will try to put together.

So how many ships does the alliance fleet have cause they had like 200 or so in the first game i doubt they could make many in just 2 years.

To be honest, how is this a surprise? There's AT LEAST a hundred Reapers going towards Earth... It took ONE to destroy almost the entire Citadel Fleet in Mass Effect 1. Granted some of them are less powerful than Sovereign, it's safe to say they all possess some sort of uber-laser. So really not that hard to imagine the entire fleet destroyed in a matter of minutes.

1) They said during the demo that the flaming debris was the human fleet.

2) sovereign only killed a few ships, most were destroyed be the Geth. Go back and watch the scene from me and realize outside of the Citadel Sovereign only destroyed one ship and that one it rammed.

Most of the Alliance fleet is destroyed. Arcturus is probably gone as well. So every day we waste in ME 3 is another day where millions of people are killed and/or husked on Earth.

I'm guessing like many here, that most of Earth's fleets will be destroyed or seriously devastated. It's sort of confirmed in one of the trailers that the Alliance was massing thousands of ships just before the Reaper invasion. The only human fleet that might be spared is the 5th fleet, since it's part of the Council/Citadel forces in a way.
