Well considering that they built the mass relays and the citadel, as well as building the collector base in the galactic core, I would say they are capable of alot. The one achilles heal I do see though is that they seem to "tire" rather quickly especialy when posessing one of their minions.
I honestly believe that's a side-effect from controlling said minion all over from Dark Space.

I can picture Reapers hovoring above orbit, backs facing the planet; their tentacles forming into sort of a fist (imagine holding a ball in your hand), stabalizing a massive Thanix energy ball of sorts and just launching it, or it blasts into a massive beam.

In retribution it tired them out, but in ME 1 when we took out what was left of Saren's corpse being controlled by Sovereign the reaper itself lost power and the fleet was able to destroy it. Prior to that the fleet was helpless against Sovereign.

But it would be nice if each one of them has a special ability, it would add a "Shadow of the Colossus" feeling to the game.

Again, in one case, the minion was right there. On the other, the minion was being controller all over from Dark Space.
Also, Sovereign was trying to activate the Mass Relay, while taking direct control o f Saren in his über epic state, while having it's shields down - or not - to defend itself. Not an easy task I'd say.

Maybe in ME 3 we will get to go inside of a live one (I imagine a live one would be much different) maybe even Harbinger.
