Do we have to represent the Alliance?

So far, all the material we've seen has Shepard introducing himself as a member of the Alliance. I, and by extension, my Shepard, have no interest in introducing myself as belonging to the Alliance.

I mean, Gabby and Ken explain to you that after Shep died the Alliance pretty much dragged his/her name through the mud and then spat on it by discounting the reapers and calling Shep delusional. Simultaneously, they used Shepard for everything from recruitment drives to advertisments for sports drinks. Why would we want to be part of a group that treats us like that?

Granted, we had to work for Cerberus in ME2, so I'm not to hopeful, but I still do hope we can say "I'm Shepard" and not "Shepard, Alliance."

Well, i was forced to represent Cerberus in ME2. So I wouldn't mind going back to the Alliance. However, there's a chance we can be more "free-lance".

Well, then you can't consider yourself to be N7 either.

And for a guy who can travel around the galaxy and do whatever the hell he feels like, I don't think it's that bad.

Beats doing janitor jobs for the circus Cerberus.

I'm right there with you. Alliance abandoned Shepard as soon as they couldn't use her image for recruitment purposes. Then they're all too quick to believe that Shepard turned traitor. I know that the latter is more than likely because of Cerberus operatives in the upper echelons of Alliance brass, but that's just one more reason not to trust them.

My Shepard's going ronin for ME3!

I need their resources, just like I needed cerberus's resources in ME 2. I don't have to like them to work with them. Besides not everyone in the alliance crapped on Shepard's name after he died. Anderson and Hackett kept the rest of the alliance off of Shepard's back when Shepard was working with cerberus. The rest of the alliance as well as the council can apologize after I destroy the reapers and dance on Harbinger's corpse.

At this point I'm like "screw the Alliance." I was done working for them after ME1 and I don't want to take orders from anyone...

I mean.. To go from an Alliance soldier, to a spectre, then in ME2 having free reign and not answering to the Alliance or Council anymore, I felt free..

Now I go back under the heels of the Alliance...

Um, you weren't free in ME2. You were under constant surveillance by Cerberus. You were always working for someone, Cerberus just gave you more free reign, but less resources.

Liara's got you covered on that front, though.  It pays to have friends in the Shadow Brokering business!

I doubt we will really be under the heels of the Alliance in ME 3 since the rest of the alliance will be busy being reaped for 90% of the game the only time we will really be under the heels  of the alliance is during the trial and in the middle of the trial we can give them the "I told you so" speech since the evidence will be presenting itself in a very dramatic fashion.   Basicaly being back with the alliance will give Shepard the authority to speak for the alliance when he is recruiting the other races to fight the reapers.

True enough, but the refurbished Normandy will be considered an alliance resource.

Eh. I'd rather be working for the Alliance than Cerberus, but they both are too inefficient. Going freelance would be much better. I hope they don't force you to join someone's side. But I bet they will.

Yeah we had surveillance and such, but I just felt like I could do a lot more and get away with a lot more "working" for Cerberus than the Alliance.

How I feel about my Shepard, is that he is above anyone in the Alliance military due to his track record.

Sorry, Shepard is human, hence Alliance in word if not in deed.

And they are still the governing body on Earth if I'm not mistaken. As dire as the situation is, I'm not sure they would be cool with you just dropping Krogan or Geth shock troops on their planet without at least some agreement.

Yeah, they kind of do discourage role playing in their role playing games. It's funny cause I plan out in my head "okay this character is going to be looking out for the good of the galaxy more than the Systems Alliance" but then that character ends up making pretty much the exact same choices as my pro-Alliance character. So who cares really. Make one red character and one blue character and the rest will just be retreads.

I think we'll be more free in ME3 than we were in the last two games.

Even if we're with the Alliance they're in chaos with the Reaper attack and all that stuff so they can't be monitoring us with the same emphasis they did in ME1 or Cerberus did in ME2.

Being under the Alliance in ME 3 is going to go something like this...

Alliance: Shepard save us!!! *static*

Shepard: Okay... that was vague. Guess I'll go mine on some distant gas giant.

Forget this freelance stuff. My renegade Shep is going to clean some Cereberus house and then it's hello TIM ver 2.0 :)

My goody 2 shoes will toe the Alliance line though ...

I like the Alliance, but I think it's a mistake to have Shepard working for them again in ME3. I think it would have been more interesting if, in ME3, Shepard no longer works for anyone but himself. No longer supporting one cause over the other, but instead fighting against the Reapers for the sake of everyone in the galaxy.

The Alliance doesn't represent every human. The colonists on Horizon, for example, were outside of Alliance jurisdiction and were not Alliance citizens.

The Alliance? What Alliance? Normandy may have been improved by them between ME2-ME3, but they're a little too busy to be keeping tabs on you after Earth gets attacked. You'll be able to ally yourself with them, but I'm sure that at minimum, you'll have the "I'm independent" convo options. You are Shepard, a faction unto yourself.

I think it will be like in ME1 where you could choose how you represented your self, either as a specter or Alliance or as just shep.

But I sure as hell am not saving the Alliance they left me out to dry and more to the point for my shep, who's back ground is colonist, all those colonists to die at the hands of the collectors.

I am saving humanity the Alliance and all their alien bum chums can burn for all I care

Humanity must endure!

No matter what the emblem on my armor states, my Shepard represents himself, does things his way, and will continue to do so because no one can stop him.

The Alliance can claim me as one of their own; I don't care. Either way, they don't control what I do.

If Cerberus wants me, I'll use their resources until they're no longer useful. Same with the Alliance.
