sorry, I put all this in another thread as a reply, the ME2 PC tech FAQ since the final question he answered said to put questions that haven't been answered or asked up there if you think they belong, and I think this is relevant to anyone with an ATI radeon card that wants to play ME2. Unless I am missing something. Sorry about the repost, but not everyone reads that thread constantly I would think and this is reaaaaaaaaaaally frustrating me.:pinched:

I have an intel i5 661@3.33ghz, 6gb of ram, windows 7, here's the
kicker: I have a ATI Radeon 5850 1gb. I downloaded mass effect 2 on
steam, went to play it and it gives me the error message in non-steam
message: "Failed to initialize the physics system. Please ensure you
have an updated version of the PhysX System Software installed."

From
what I've read, apparently steam makes sure all the stuff you need to
play the game you have, usually. For example if you need directx version
10 to play the game it will download and install it for you along with
the game. I did some research online and it turns out nvidia doesnt
allow computers with non-nvidia graphics cards to use physx...

Several
questions spring to mind. 1. Can I find a loophole or fix to play the
game without having to buy a new graphics card? Anyone? 2.Why
understand system requirements is ATI radeon cards listed at all?! 3.
Will steam refund me if they or I or bioware can't find a solution? 4.
What the heck, nvidia?

Also if anyone finds the fix where you use
your ati card to render graphics and a nvidia card for the physx
software and link them with that patch, that won't work with my computer
because I would need to buy a nvidia card, then i would need a new
power supply to power both cards, a new casing/tower to hold the bigger
supply, and maybe a stronger fan or cooling system? Not willing to shell
out money for new parts when all my parts work fine and are all still
under warranty. Maybe I can uninstall the physx software somehow and itll still run lol? Or maybe I can get an earlier patch of something and make it work. Any ideas would be great.

Please help me you guys! This is extremely frustrating. Thanks for reading and any help you offer.

Also, I did search the site for physx problems relating to mine. I figured out i should attempt to reinstall with different versions. Turns out I don't think it will install at all. Everytime I try to install physx i choose accept conditions and i click next and it doesn't do anything. Keep in mind I dled this game on steam. I have tried to install different version of physx such as 9.10.0513 which I see many have said work for them but they all won't let me install in first place. I have looked for physx on my installed programs list and it isn't there. Is this because nvidia detects my radeon card and so it won't allow an install? I read somewhere else on the internet about nvidia limiting usage of physx software to PC's that have only nvidia cards, not allowed other cards. What do i do? I have not seen the solution on this site.

http://forums.amd.co...threadid=126730 I believe that site's thread sums up the source of my issues (Nvidia keeping physx to themselves), but I have not figured out how to fix it.

Physx is more than just a graphics card renderer, and is actually used by the main system in this case, search is your friend, but try the above link to install physx on your machine.

Steam often claims it will automatically do things and then doesnt.
There is an entry in this guys blog (about DA:O, but might be relevant to ME2), about how Steam installs physx to the wrong location and all you have to do is move it to the right location. Worth a shot.

There was also another forumite who had the same problem recently and it fixed itself up after verifying the Steam cache intergrity and rebooting a time or two.

Thanks for the advice guys. I tried your suggestions. I just noticed that although it won't allow me to install other versions of physx, the specific one you linked mcsupersport does install. I am so ****ing happy I could kiss you bro. Seriously though manhug (I'm assuming you're a guy cuz internet females are not real ^_^). Bogsnot useful post as well! I took what you said about steam installing physx in the wrong place and applied it to ME2 and you were right. the dll files for physx (apparently binary stuff) is in the wrong folder completely. So basically both of your posts combined were the answer :) you guys are awesome!
