By this I don't mean creating a placeable then selecting one of the existing placeables..but more making my own.
For instance taking a current crate placeable..and putting 3 crates instead?
Hope this makes sense. If possible how do I go about it?
Is it possible to create new placeables?

Not totally sure what you mean, but yes you can do that. If you mean have a single placeable that looks like three crates (has the appearance of 3 crates but operates as a single unit), then you'll want to learn how to make a new model in 3DSMax. If you mean 3 separate existing crates arranged in a standard positioning, you can paint 3 crates down, then select them as a group and copy the group to your clipboard and paste the group whereever you like as many times as you like to duplicate them 3 at a time.

No you hit it with the first thing. I have never made models..nor could I figure out how to even find or load the existing models. That's something I would like to learn..Iwill have to get a 3d program first.
Once I do this..where do I find the models?

Its possible. I've just successfully converted my first custom placeable using 3ds max. We are still working out many of the details and probably will be weeks before its streamlined for even most modding experts to do reliably.
I recommend Autodesk/Softimage Mod Tool 7.5 as one starting point for 3d modeling. Its a free tool and seems to support my fbx tools. Models are packed in the ERF files specifically modelhierarchies and the creates are plc_cratelarge_01_0.mmh.
Having said that for a complete novice this is more work than you might expect.
