Questions [SPOILERS]

1.
What was the "original plan" mentioned at th eend of the game?
2.
If you romance varric instead of merill (if you can), does he stay with you? I love varric; I wish he stayed with hawke in a non-romantic way, or knew where he was and chiled once in a while.
3.
Obviously Anders couldn't see this outcome (mages fighting back, all circles gone)... All he SHOULD of accomplished was a circle being anulled(sp?) I finally understood him when I beat the game (Chantry is useless, start a war, help mages win, and other circles will follow), but he couldn't see that coming; all that should've happened was a kirkwall without mages, so I still hate him for it, even though I liked the outcome?
Anyone agree?
4.
What happens if you refuse to help anders because he won't tell you his plan?
Concerns/thoughts/questions..
5.
All this was over a stupid little idol you found in the deeproads? Was bioware high when they wrote this story? (jokes... don't lock the thread)
In all honesty, A better cause would be cool though, lol
6.
I want varric in DA:3!!!! You agree?
last point...
7.
I didn't like how the game was only 20 hours max (completing EVERYTHING) after the deeproads expidition
It took me 40 hours to get tthe coin, which lengthened my playtime, but i'm not doing that again on other playthroughs... It is so tedius!
If you took out all the tedius play, it would be a 15-20 hour game.

1. No clue. I guess it would be to quickly procure the Champion and convince him/her to settle things with the mages and templars. Now the Seekers must first hunt down Hawke before the convincing arguments can start.
2. You cannot romance Varric. He is devoted solely to Bianca, no matter how suave Hawke is.
3. I hesitate to comment on that one...others will be able to do so more eloquently.
4. Anders will still show up late in Act III to commit the deed no matter if you help him with his shopping list or not.
5. The idol was just a part of it. A bit of extra fuel to the fire.
6. If the storyline is right, I would love to see him return. At least in a casual mention or cameo (like Shale).
7. I didn't keep track of how long I played since it was a few hours here and there over several days. All I know is that I had fun. Lots of it, even amidst the momentary fist-shaking during some frustrating bits.

1.

It's intended to be ambiguous. I am guessing we will find out in DA3, or perhaps never at all. I guessed that the plan was to get Hawke to help stop the war, which fell through because Hawke was no longer around.
2.

No. You can't romance him, and he's narrating the story, yet Hawke isn't still around. Though he could be lying.
3.

I didn't care for it. It was short-sighted of him to do so - he didn't have a plan, he just wanted to start something and hope it turned out well. In my eyes, that was foolish, because the most likely result was a lot of innocent people dying for no appreciable gain.
4.
What happens if you refuse to help anders because he won't tell you his plan?
Hawke doesn't pick up poop, and you miss out on experience points and Anders' costume change.

Many people have expressed displeasure with idol ex machina. If we had seen it affecting Meredith more, and she was a larger part of the story from act 1 and 2, then it would have done better. As it stands, it's pretty much just something that came from nowhere. We are hoping for story DLC (that they are supposedly working on) to help explain or flesh out the story in Act 3, which many people will agree is the weakest of the 3 acts of the game.
6.

I wouldn't mind, but I think I'd like to see what the setting is before I have them bring Varric back. Varric's a merchant prince from Kirkwall, and I like the idea of him being Hawke's best friend, not the player's best friend.
7.

I didn't have a problem with it; I thought it was reasonably paced. Memorable and fun characters/companions to interact with made it fun for me. I also try not to measure games by "hours played"; several of my favorite games of all time are not particularly long ones (10 hours or less). If you want to play a game with a high dollar to time played ratio, MMORPGs are probably better for that.

2. I wasn't aware Varric could be romanced.
3. Anders decision to do what he did in DA2 was, in my opinion, a self motivated move that accomplished something he is not emotionally ready or mature enough to handle. He starts the war, but he's not capable of continuing the fight. What it does do, due to Hawke's reactive approach, is show that the Templar order is not invulnerable, and is capable of being fought. Now through this self-motivated move on Anders' part, we get persons across the board willing to say "They can be challenged." How successful they are in the end, however, remains to be seen.
4. Anders still does the deed no matter what. Skipping his CQ accomplishes nothing, he still manages to build his.....doomsday device.
5. The idol was a plot device. Nothing more, nothing less. I honestly hope we never see something like this ever again. It does raise some interesting questions about Red (or corrupted) Lyrium, however. But that's about it.
6. I think he's too busy avoiding Chantry Seekers and spreading the "legend" of Hawke to be in DA3. Maybe in a cameo appearance, sure.
7. Cutting out some of the "sidequests" and FexEx quests, yes, I can see it top out mercifully at 20 hours. Mine was around 30 hours, speeding through everything. It got old at around 15 hours due to the reused maps and the wave encounters.
Thank you for letting me share.

2) You cannot romance Varric. It's sad really. You can bromance him though.
3) won't comment.
4) Boom.
5) The idol only exacerbated Meredith's deep seated paranoia and fear of mages. It wasn't why anything happened. It just sped things up. However, it wasn't shown affecting Meredith enough. It's clear that sometime in Act 2 Meredith acquired the idol, as Bartrand says in his delirium, but we didn't see enough of Meredith to really know her or her descent into a lunatic.
6) Yes.
7) 20 hours? It took me at least 45 to do everything. Well, maybe a few hours less than that. I do like to run around in circles and I did fall asleep sometimes leaving the game paused.

in da2, you just go to them for quests 3 times, and they beg you for your damn help.. No buddying around, no heartfelt conversations...

Maybe I misinterpreted the chats Hawke had with the various companions, but I picked up on some heartfelt discussions, some witty banter and camaraderie. Sure, no one was making smores at the fireside, but that didn't distract from the warm, fuzzy moments (or sauciness and sarcasm).bluebullets wrote...
I also hated how every time you spoke to your damn companions they were begging you for a favor.. I miss the camp of DA:O, where you could buddy around

And yes, they all asked for a favor here and there, but that's what friends do. Hawke essentially recruits them into fighting darkspawn, slaying a couple of dragons, cleaning up Kirkwall's streets, cleaning up the bay, and returning some magical pants. Why wouldn't he/she help them out in turn? It's just like jump-starting your friend's jalopy, or treating them to lunch when they're broke. One day, you'll get paid back. Maybe when the Qunari invade.

That's a hotly debated point. One I won't take sides o....oh who am I kidding. I missed that from the first game. Why it was taken out here baffles the mind. Maybe to cut back on the dev time. That's all I can come up with.

Voice acting costs a lot of $$, so they did as less as they could.. It'll just get worse, just like in every other trilogy

Which is sad considering so much of the potential history and lore we'd be missing out. But, with the way things have turned out with DA2, I'm willing to give the DA team enough credit to see that DA3 might be a happy medium between O and 2 fans. I don't think we'll get everything we want out of 3, but we'll get enough to make it worthy in the series.
Call me optimistic, but that's what I see. Or at least hope to see. If it turns out the way you said, sadly, that'll be it.

No people I'm not calling DA2 worthy of an A for a grade. I'm making a point.
If EA hadn't pushed them to rush it out for some last minute profits, then we could've had an amazing game. So I blame that Ricietello guy or whatever his name is....
evil face is evil

As for the questions by the O.P. I agree with Hooray quite a bit.
In regards to Act 3 and especially Meredith and Orsino. We miss out too much with Act 3. We waste so much time with other sub plots and all the pointless "BLOOD MAGIC IS BAD!" crap that by the time we take out the Arishok we're just kind of thrown 1 character we never really dealt with ever besides an initial on a piece of paper a small ramble from the then dead Viscount. Meanwhile we hear more mentions about Meredith and a tiny glimpse of her at the start of Act 1 that if you were barely glancing away you'd miss.
End of Act 2 you are shown these 2. Doesn't even feel like it's necessary for the plot besides the writers going "We need to give the hero a new type of name than just Hawke." So Meredith is there to say "Champion". Then Act 3 rushes it'self fast and apparently Meredith at the end is all batsy cause of a sword. Now tell the player to decide Genocide or a War. "BTW we aren't gonna tell you until later that the puppy dog eyed first enchanter is also pretty messed up just like the batty wild eyed knight-commander...
Yay Act 3
