My main FemShep playthrough, Jane, is absolutely ruthless and a little psychotic. She has suffered many great pains that have changed her drastically throughout the years. However, while she puts great interest in making humanity strong, she is not a xenophobe, and while she may not seem to have any morals or principles, deep inside her still lives the softness that was present before the attack on Mindoir.

My renegade shepard's had a hard life. He's rigid, distant, hard working, focused on whatever task given and will do nearly anything to accomplish a task; he is a soldier to the bone and proud of it  Struggling to distance himself from his times on the mean streets of Earth can make him seem agressively tenacious.  He isn't particularly fond of the other races, but understands the necessity of dealing with them; but he hates batarians. He only tolerates those he deems competent; any one else be damned.

To those that don't know him, they can easily see him as some sort of cold calculating killing machine.  He will kill you if you are an obstacle between him and his objective. Those closest to him (Ashley and to some extent Liara) consider his hard exterior a facade hiding a deeper seated pain.

He deeply cares for Ashley, her strength of will and character, her soldier-no-nonsense attitude and her ideals about family; these are just a few traits he envies most about her. He feels Ashley keeps him rooted somewhat to something normal in this crazy galaxy. My shep doesn't kill because he likes it, it's because it was the only thing he was ever good at.

My two favorite Sheps are pretty different from one another. The one I enjoy playing the most is kind of a female version of Malcolm Reynolds. She's not a goodie goodie, and she can be reckless sometimes, but she's a decent person who's very loyal to her friends.

My second favorite Shep is not what I would consider a good person. She's selfish, ruthless, doesn't trust anyone (especially non-humans) and is completely focused on the mission and making sure humans come out ahead of all the other races. She's not stupid but her prejudices do make getting the job done a lot more difficult, but she would never see it that way.

My Shepard is a warrior at heart, shaped by society into a ruthless guardian.

His "masters"(Cerberus/Alliance) are nothing more than tools to be used in
his personal mission of keeping the galactic civilization spinning. They may think they
have a leash on Shepard, but the truth is, they have only as much control as he allows them to.

If casualties can be avoided, they will be, but if a mass murderer is hiding behind a civilian...the shot *will* be taken. Such is life.

He is a weapon in the war against extinction, and has no place in peaceful galaxy. He believes conflict breeds progress, but that conflict must be carefully contained.

At first, he fought to satisfy his own inner demons of bloodlust and pride, using more noble virtues to excuse his warmongering.

After meeting Tali, he realized he could have a place in peace, and fights for that place for himself and Tali. Everything else is expendable.

So what is this topic abou-ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL!
My Shepard has been through a lot, lost a lot. He's seen his family killed by Batarian raiders on Mindoir, seen his entire unit butchered by a Thresher Maw on Akuze. What's worse, just as things start to look up for him, he is introduced to a new form of existence. He knows about the greatest threat the galaxy will ever face: The Reapers. He is victorious over Sovereign, he has saved the Council, but it comes at a price: Gunnery Chief Ashley Williams is left behind on Virmire... But still, he is not to be alone against the coming darkness, the galaxy must unite to defeat the Reapers. And all the while, Liara has been there for him, she relates him in ways he couldn't understand, and joined with him before the journey to Ilos. But then, everything changed when the Collector's appeared: Liara was there when Shepard died, had she gone to save Joker, it would have been her. This guilt only stays with her as she fights for anything to bring Shepard back, and it hurts her ever more all the while, changes her. Regardless, Cerberus, the very organization that before caused Shepard so much pain, brings him back. He is grateful, as his mission is an important one, but that does not mean he trusts the dark organization. Recruiting his new team, he sees a new horizon, the Reapers could be defeated. He is glad to early on reunite with his old friend Garrus Vakarian, and is happy with the people he is picking up. Kaidan is angry at Shepard on Horizon, but it is understandable. Liara however, seems so distant. She is troubled, and Shepard vows to change that before the end. Finally, they embark on the Suicide Mission, and destroy the Collector Base. But at what cost? Among the dead are Samara, Zaeed Massani, and Jacob Taylor. The team of nine is less than what he started with, and that bothers him. But they died for a noble cause, and he continues on. Liara and Shepard reconnect once more when she takes down the Shadow Broker. Liara recollects herself, realizing finally that Shepard isn't going anywhere. Shepard jokes to her about having little blue children before continuing on to respond to Admiral Hackett's reports of a doctor who has information about the coming Reaper threat. The events of Arrival hit him hard... He did what he had to do, but at the cost of so many. He feels remorse for what needed to be done heading into the trial, but knows the threat ahead is far too great. Whatever the circumstances, he will have Liara and Garrus beside him for the final battle, and they WILL win this war.
RELEASING CONTROL OF THIS FORM.

My shepard is a soldier who lost his family to slavers and is a war hero.

He is a soldier and is kind of ****** to everyone except his companions. He will do whatever it takes to get the job done but if casualties can be avoided he will do whatever it takes to prevent them.

He has a soft spot for people like him who have lost family members.
Fighting is starting to take its toll on him physically and mentally.

My Shep is a real hardass who doesn't take any BS from anyone, but isn't completely unreasonable. She won't hurt innocents, but everyone else can go to hell. She wants what's best for most people, but also never fully trusts anyone. She takes care of her squad but won't tolerate any BS from them any more than anyone else. She does have a heart of gold deep down, If you can get to it under all the barbed wire it's covered in.

I have only one Shepard her name is Quinn Shepard. Earth Born

In ME1 she was a Paragon but in ME2 she lost her sh*t and became Renegade. She's a boss b*tch, who is a Man Eater with a drinking problem. She only trusts Garrus, Tali and Joker fully and anyone else on the crew that was on the first Normandy.

...but she has a soft spot for Jack, seeing her like a little sister.

In ME1 she slept with Kadian but she was emotionally attached to him- it was only a one night deal. She regrets leaving Ash to die and wishes she would have left Kadian.

She is attracted to Garrus after seeing how much he had changed since two years ago. Best friends with benefits. B)

My Shepard has a strong tendency to put the needs of others before her own preferring to be the front line fighter taking the brunt of the enemies hate. Thus why she pretty much has to be a Sentinel. She'd get her tail roasted as any other class probably. With a strong desire to see everyone's view point and a code of ethics that strongly follows a rights mentality yet a willingness to get her hands dirty in the defense of others.

Seriously the speaker for clan Weyrlock was asking to be set on fire the moment he started talking about eating children. I really have no concept how toasting him was a renegade action.

I don't really roleplay that much. Insofar as I have a "canon" or "main" Shep, she (her name is Talia, something I decided in ME1 before I'd met Tali) is basically a Paragon with the fun bits of being a Renegade, like being mean to evil and/or stupid people.

Celyn Shepard was born to colonists on Mindoir. Her parents argued on a daily basis loudly and often violently, victims of a mismatched magnetic attraction that put serious strain on their family. Lily Shepard was an ambitious scientist with her head most often in the clouds and rarely at home by the time Celyn was old enough to watch her younger brother and take care of the house. John Shepard (What? I like the name..) was a miner with a sense of adventure. That's how they ended up on Mindoir in the first place, let's move from Earth to a colony, let's see what we can do out there! An enthusiasm first indulged by Lily which she eventually came to regret as life in a colony can be hard and the work available not always what she imagined for herself.

Celyn was a brilliant energetic child who grew rebellious and more then a bit wild as a response to her long endured family life. She had always promised to protect her little brother Jamie from their parents shouts, from the world. Until the day she didn't. One fateful evening she came home far much later then allowed, both her parents scolded her, asking questions they'd had no right to ask, according to Celyn. She'd had enough, she screamed she was leaving forever, scooped up her jacket and bag and walked out the door. She did briefly glance back to see Jamie clutching his bear and crying just behind his father, in the shadows of the room beyond. But she couldn't let that stop her, not this time.

That night the Batarians came and took it all away. She'd been hiding away with the boyfriend she'd run to for days maybe weeks. With guilt gnawing at her insides every day that passed she'd try to brave outside their hidden shelter but skimpered back out of fear whenever some noise was heard. Eventually things seemed to settle down enough, the air quieter then usual, she went back home. To see it all turned to ashes, to find her family's bodies, to see how her mother and father had tried to fight back, to hold Jamie's lifeless form. To scream her rage and cry her despair. Until something bright shined into her eyes and a voice called to her "Hey kid you allright? It's ok we're Alliance military, we're here to help you." Help? what help?

It took the better part of a year for Celyn to pull herself together heal and start living again. Once she was out of her depression she attacked life with a vengeance. Poured over her studies, developing a disciplined and driven attitude. She was going to make up for her failures, her guilt, she would never let herself or anyone down again. She would become smarter, stronger and she'd protect those who needed her. It wouldn't bring her family back, but it might save others her pain.

Celyn is mostly paragon but she will renegade if you get in her face. By now her attitude has relaxed and she can have a laid back sense of humor about most things. But she is still very disciplined, driven and a bit wild when the need or mood strikes.

I actually didn't mean to write all that but it was in my head for some time and I guess it needed to come out.
Oh yeah and she's a war hero.

edit for pic:

My Shepard - her name is Sarah Shepard. Based on Sarah Connor from the Terminator series.
Her attitude is pretty much like mine. She is outgoing yet at the same time enjoys privacy. She is friendly when she needs to be, but isn't afraid to speak her mind and will do whatever it takes to ensure the safety of the innocence. Her ways may be a bit..."questionable," but she gets the job done. She is loyal to her friends and lover - in this case, it's Thane. She believes greatly in personal freedom, and respects the beliefs of others as long as they respect hers. But Sarah doesn't take betrayal too well...those who betray Sarah Shepard usually wind up with a bullet in them.

 On a more serious note...

- - - -

( Male ) Marcus Shepard - In one word: Righteous.

steampowered.com/ugc/558654160598262925/A1553201207A122EAF51A6EF9AEAC737C9A50D39/

Personally, this is my default Shepard. Things don't happen by accident with him... Every single action or thought are a result of considerable calcuation, of evaluating the pros and cons. For me, he is a hero; I say that because having in mind his own view of the world, he's not a "results at all cost" kind of guy... If you're going to become what you are about to face, then you have already lost the fight even before it began. You have your core values and you stand by them, even if that means utter and total annihilation.

Hero of the Blitz and having lost his family in Mindoir, it's kind of hard growing attached with people dying all around you. The only Constant thus far prooved to be Chief Gunnery Sergeant Ashley Williams, even though they're not in the best of the terms after Marcus joined Cerberus. In order to cope with the loss and tragedy, he has developed over the years alcohol problems, which he tries to conceal from everyone, despite the fact the SR-2 has a bar and temptation ensues every so often. Alas, that which doesn't kill us only makes us stronger.

PS: This character is why I have some considerable issues with the Arrival DLC, since I simply can't accept he'd be able to what the DLC FORCES upon you.

( Male ) Adam Shepard - In one word: Lost.

cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/560907128050866617/AB58E678BF66DA71F36463DC086A387741F9985E/

Badass driven, Terminator-like Shepard. The Butcher of Torfan, who sent squad after squad to their deaths, in order to flush them Batarians out. A true "results at all cost" kind of guy, even though I must say he does no apologies for that... He knows in what kind of World he lives in: A world where men like him are set free, with no leash whatsoever, just before being confronted with a huge sign that says "BREAK ONLY IN CASE OF WAR".

Being a spacer, mother was WAYYYY to focused in her military career, which made him distrusting of women overall; "Dad" was an alien term, since he was conceived in-vitro. Personal relationships don't matter at all, since everyone from a certain point in his life must have a goal or a purpose attained to him, either as nothing more than cannon fodder or squad mate until someone better comes along.

A xenophob through and through unless WHEN necessary, things changed considerably upon meeting Liara T'Soni, the first sentient being actually able to see him for what what he is, instead of what he stands for, as the Butcher of Torfan. In other words, what most would think that makes him stronger, it actually makes him weaker, disconnected. The only thing that truly drives him is war, carnage, genocide and with the Reapers incoming, on that regard, he WILL be King.

( Male ) James Shepard - In one word: Lonewolf.

steampowered.com/ugc/558657320212536025/C926C3DEED0C79D3D5BD7988256A4C119DA20163/

No home, no family and no friends... Some, simply because they were never there, others because they died while on duty. The Akuze tragedy made a hero out of him, even though "heroism" had nothing to do with it, but rather the desire to stay alive, despite all odds. Having in mind his background and - perhaps - even lack of social skills, people tend to see him as a strange person to say the least, who is both cherished by his accomplishments but also "alien" simultaneously.

Having that in mind, it's no wonder he fell for Liara T'Soni, even though it's not like it was love at first sight. Asari and their abilities just allowed him to be with her without the need to even communicate that much, since what he identified as their "sixth sense" allowed her to peer into his soul. Regardless, he still felt misunderstood...

That changed upon meeting Miranda, since they were one and the same in a way: No friends and no loved ones they could rely upon on a regular basis, either because they were akward and felt the weight of the World upon their shoulders, either because reality and fiction got mixed at a certain point.

Overall, a reliable individual, friend of his friends - when they live long enough to become one - who at any time is available to make the hard choices, regardless of the consequences and the price upon his soul. No matter what, even if the future says otherwise, loneliness has been a requirement thus far.

( Female ) Nicole Shepard - In one word: Bitter.

steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198014629765/screenshot/559785036032006405

Born in space and also regarded as the Butcher of Torfan, her background goes way deeper...

Without her mother even realizing, her father abused her from early on when she was still a child, until she became so accustomed to it that it made no difference and that such kind of behaviour was not only expected, but understandable. The thing lasted for 10 years, until it came to a head when the mother found out and shot her own husband two times to the head and one to the chest. Having in mind he was - regardless of the fact he was also a PIG - a high-ranking officer of the Alliance, certain things were taken into consideration. The official story released to the public is that the officer killed himself.

At the same time, young Nicole was comissioned to a rehabilitation facility in order to cope both the loss of her so called "father" right before her eyes, as well to seek medical treatment, since she had been drugged frequently over the years by her "father" in order to make her cope more easily with their "affair". Later on, it was revealed she could have NO children due to the use of this drug.

After rehabilitation and trying to have a difficult relationship with her mother - who in the wake of the suicide was mysteriously promoted to XO and assigned to another ship - she joined the Alliance. Distrustful of men all around, with the possible exception of Captain Anderson, who became her mentor and established the kind of father-like figure she never had, she quickly rose in the ranks of the Alliance.

Over time, she eventually came to be known as a brilliant strategist, if not a bit brutal to say the least, after having ordered the execution of every SINGLE batarian on Torfan, despite the fact they had surrendered already. After having become a Spectre, she quickly became friends with Ashley Williams, Tali Zorah and Liara T'Soni... The latter is supposedly her lover.

To conclude, not broken or lost, but bitter and mournful. Even if the Universe ends up being saved, she wonders if it was all worth it.

- - - -

Awesome TOPIC BTW. Glad to see a lot of people have their own ideas about their own characters and all. ;)

But I dunno, I guess a guy who seems to be "hardened" on the outside and always about doing the ""right" thing, even if that means he needs to make sacrifices. Would throw himself in front of a moving train for almost anyone on the team.

Shepard that I will most likely be importing first is by the book mostly paragon spacer/war hero engineer. she is artistic but keeps it a secret, so she makes extra effort to make sure that her decisions aren't affected by emotions or her imagination in any way. because of that, she tends to be a little too tunnel visioned and sometimes misses out on the more creative solutions and ends up getting not so great results. but she's been loosening up a bit in course of Me2 and she sleeps well at night. in that way, she's very much like Samara and as a result she started spending a lot of time alongside her, just meditating. however, she doesn't allow herself to form emotional attachments, especially with her crew, so she's polite, but distant with people serving under her command or with everyone really. Jewel doesn't open up much to people.

She IS generally loyal to Alliance, but she adopted to working with Cerberus out of necessity. she saved the collector base, because it was a potential resource, but she considered that it might backfire and so she's ready to deal with the consequences, should they arise.

she is not my favorite Shepard but she is I feel the best one to play a first game with, because I won't worry as much with her if I'm making the best possible choices for a specific outcome.

I want Shepard to be viewed as a Spectre like he was in the first game. It offers him a lot of independence and a very iconic view. But position and title doesn't matter if everything is on the verge of extinction. Just give me the freedom to get the job done!

James A. Shepard is a broken man. Despite his quick wit and naturally friendly personality his eyes betray the scars hes suffered over the year, even if the actual wounds were healed by the Lazurus Project.

Being a survivor of Akuze, Mindoir, and Virmire, he carries the soldiers hes lost with him everywhere. He mourned the loss of his very, very, close friend Ash until the day he died. Though you wouldn't be able to tell from his outward appearance.

Shepard is good man set on a self destructive path. Not even his close friends and loved ones see what Shepard is truly feeling most of the time.

Make no mistake. He will die for those he cares for, sooner or later. But he will always be remembered, and perhaps in death he will find some closure.
