We get three type in ME2. Permanent squaddies (Liara, Garrus, etc.) temporary teammates (Mordin, Wrex, etc.) and then we have recruitable characters who will affect the endings available to us but we can only take a few of them. I'm guing to guess that Jack and Miranda are recruitable.
