So I just beat ME2 with an adept on hard-core mode, and I'd like to do
adept.  I'm not such a huge fan of re-leveling my shepard toon though. 
If I do end up importing the adept, I only keep my skill points right?  I
lose the relationships, ship upgrades etc?  Can anyone help me with
this? Is it worth importing for insanity or is it more fun to just start
anew?

We can only speculate based on what we have seen in the demos.
You will keep your points, but will have to respec your character based on the new skills and skill trees we have seen.
Normandy will probably keep whatever upgrades you have done.
Existing LI's have been confirmed, so probably will keep them.

Thanks for the response but I was actually referring to importing a me2 character into a new me2 game

If I understand you're importing a ME2 - ME2 char, for another playthrough. It's better to import, if you are going to play the same type of char. You get a lot of bonus stuff such as:

+25% XPs = L 30
Keep weapons and Armor
Hvy Weapons
200,000 creds
50,0000 ea of the Elements
Extra fuel / Probes

I think that's it, so yes, better use an import.

Thats commonly referred to as NG+.
You keep your level, and skills remain as how they were.
Lose Normandy upgrades, and LI.
Keep Heavy weapons, Collector Ship weapon training

I have a level 29 vanguard that I've recently completed ME2 with. If I imported him into a new ME2 game will he have to remain as a vanguard or will the Lazarus project enable me to change class? I know I could just try it but I'm not near to my computer at the moment!
