I realize they have access to better weapons, like the assault rifle, but the point of the soldier is as a combat specialist who can use every weapon known to man. Even if we can't carry all six weapon types at once, having the choice to sub in an smg for another weapon type would be awesome because I just love the smg. choice is good.

I don't see why the Soldier can't get the SMG now that all of the other classes get the assault rifle. Sure.

the description of the soldier was "he can use all the weapons at once" was a lie ...having the submachine gun would've given the soldier more shooting time if he ran out of "bullets" on the other weapons at least ...so idk why he didn't carry SMGs

From what I can work out, the soldier is getting the SMG in ME3? Am sure during the Sur'Kesh demo in one of the interviews Jesse was doing they pulled out the Locust.

The '5' I think is with reference the normal weapons, not counting the Heavy Weapon

Since I have choice now every character will probably have assault rifle and sniper rifle. I mean, there's little reason to pick any of the others. Little difference between SMG/AR. Sniper beats heavy pistol. I guess if you're Vanguard you might want a shottie, besides that the choice is elementary. I always picked sniper training on the Collector Vessel. Unless you want to roleplay your class the weapon choices are lame. Maybe the customization will add things that make the weaker weapons stand out, I hope so.

Part of me'd rather the restricted classes from ME1.

Slot restriction is a better idea, the reason being the creation of very distinct playstyles as opposed to class based play styles. However certain weapons will probably be mandetory to ceratin classes, i can't see a vanguard build without a shotgun, but i won't be suprised that a week after the release we will start seeing such bizare build that actually work really well.

SMG's are very useful for a soldier that uses a vindicator. Being able to lay down a wall of slugs in a pinch can save your ass. Husk mob anyone? being able to equip that in the pistols spot would be nice, especially since a vindicator/widow or vindicator/viper is enough AP capability for anyone.

And it's infuriating that soldiers don't have this option, yet they use the Shuriken in cutscenes anyway. it looks SO BA.

I agree that smg's should be equipable in the pistol slot.

In demo soldier have only 4 weapons slot (AR,SMG,Pistol,heavy) i hope its not official i prefer things like in M2 just added smg or make it pick up insted of pistol

eh, can't say I'd mind losing the shotgun all that much. still I'd prefer they keep it as I'm sure a lot of people do get some use out of it as a soldier.

I'm more interested in finding out how "elite" weapons work - can every class pick up the Widow? Can a vanguard charge around the field with the Revenant? Can a soldier pick up more than one elite weapon to compensate for the removal of class restricted weapons?

From what I understand you won't be restricted in weapon choice (unless that's changed ofc) so yeah, go nuts with your SMG's soldiers.
