Do anyone think Meredith was cazy before or after the idol. The reason I ask because speaking to Mach in quest Enemies among us she says she hear dark rumors about Meredith and that Meredith sees demons everyewhere, so I guessing the knight commander was insane and ruthless before the idol.

She was batsh*it insane even before the idol. Which makes the idol pretty pointless.

Maybe the idol boosted her madness up a few notches.

Maybe it did, the point is, it didn't matter - after Anders blew up the chantry, with or without the Idol she was going to call rite of annulment. The Idol was just a lame excuse for the final battle to have millions of walking statues trying to hit you.

Rumours have a way of self escalating. Heck, you also hear rumours that she puts templar recruits through vicious initiation ceremonies, and that doesn't turn out to be remotely true.

What is true is she seemed to see magic as a curse and that was likely well before the idol because of what her sister did. The idol likely fed off these emotions but I doubt it forced them on her. Just like it was feeding off the greed of Bartrand. It was feeding of her anger, rage and possible lust for revenge.

 I agree with Torax.
