I've been to Africa too. What Teknor said is true, but the trouble is that everybody IS poor. The codex says that in 2183 they've caught up to 20th century first world levels, which is an awesome improvement.

Flame war? How can I start a flame war for being truthful. If you want to get your panties in a twist over my post, then fine, but I don't really care. Hell, I find it kinda sad that you think this thread would be capable of causing a flame war. We aren't in the 90's anymore bro.

How does racism even come into this? Afriica is overcome with TB, aids and malaria, the place is a 3rd world country. It's not exactly a place you'll want to live in. Just because a continent is populated by a certain race doesn't mean it is racist to call said continent "sucky". The OP is obviusly talking about the living conditions, but living in the politically correct world we do, everything has to boil down to racism and homophobia, doesn't it?

Racism is now a catch-all term for culturalism as well. If you disrespect the state for having a backwards culture, people will refer to you as racist, even though race never plays into it. If you disrespect a religion then you are also somehow racist and will certainly be labeled as intolerant. It's not necessarily a fair term. However, I would argue that the OP is being simplistic and misleading.

Now, if I were an African, I would probably be offended that you were simply characterizing a whole continent with sweeping generalizations. There are peaceful areas of Africa. There are prosperous areas of Africa. There are developed areas of Africa. There are Africans of every race (lots of Indians, Chinese, and Europeans in Africa as well as native Africans) who live happy family lives and have good jobs. 

Africa is incredibly rich in natural resources. Many parts of Africa are currently undergoing a development boom. A huge youth population in north Africa are pushing for democracy and human rights, which means their culture is evolving. There is a lot going on.
