Wrong. JRPGs didn't evolve for the last 15(?) years. There's still the same princess you take along the journey and in the end you're still to make clear the cliched uber-evil guy doesn't control, destroy, change, whatever the world. Oh, and I really do have to see at least _one_ JRPG in which the first female chara you meet is not attracted to the main char. I could give an entire list.

Just look at this good chart. www.boingboing.net/2010/10/19/the-japanese-rpg-for.html

DA3 needs the look it had in DAO. Dark and mature. There is absolutely no need to make it cartoonish or anime like DA2 or all the Jgames. It's an absolute horrible style.

Lol, you realise that those cliches fit the vast majority of RPGs, a good number of Bioware RPGs included? Who is the first female character you get in Origins? Oh yeah, the love interest Morrigan. What's the goal? Preventing the cliche uber-evil entity known as the Archdemon (Lol, Archdemon) from destroying Ferelden. Oh, and technically, Morrigan can be considered as a type of princess considering Flemeth's history.

Screw princess you're running around with a prince.  Oh wow! Genderbender! That's never been done before! -Oh wait...didn't that happen in DQ8? You had a prince and a princess!

Yes all JRPGs are the same and WRPGs are all the pinncles of ingenuity. Riiight. (towardsJean-Funk not the poster I'm quoting).

Ha, yeah. I completely forgot about Alistair, the first companion you meet, who is a love interest and a hidden prince. Silly Bioware. Get you cliched JRPG out of my pedestal of CRPG awesomeness.

JRPGs are quite boring in my own franky opinion, in terms of story that is...

Combat...well I enjoyed the one in the Last Remnant.

1.tali is no princess sure who dad was a captain of a ship but that does not mean she is royalty.
2.wrex is a clan leader not a prince.

Oh a sarcasm detector. That's a real useful invention.

I mostly jest, but it was partially in response to a discussion we were having on the ME boards a while ago... all the ME1 aliens are the children of an important person - except for Garrus, who is just some random cop's kid.

3.any krogan is more important then someone of another race since they have that whole being sterile problem.
4.by what you say if my dad is the head baker at the biggest bakery in the universe then im the same as a prince.

i agree, i DESPISE the stupid and colorful art style of DA2....
well there are many things i despise about that game, but that's not the point.
even if you think the art style in DAO was a bit generic, at least it wasn't so colorful that i wanted to kill myself, it looked like it was drawn by a kid.
DA3 needs to look realistic, grittier and Darker, like DAO.(although obviously it needs to look better than DAO, that's a no brainer(my heart wants them to use the RED Engine, i'll cross my fingers in blind hope:crying:))

/facepalm

Sarcasm? Hyperbole? Dramatic Irony? Take your pick of terminology, but  I'm certainly not lying when I say that I was not being 100% completely serious when I said that Wrex was teh hadsumist prince evah. I have a Nigel Fishnchips banner in my sig, I think you can be pretty sure that I'm a big fan of blowing things radically out of proportion for comedic effect.

The original discussion was part of a joke thread about a hypothetical future FemTurian LI, and how it should be the Turian councilor's daughter (beause a human boning your daughter is the best revenge for those airquotes.) Then someone pointed out that too many alien squadmates are already the children of someone very important in their culture, and the "Wrex is a handsome prince" joke was born. Sadly it's probably not as funny now that I've had to explain it in great detail. The point is that aliens/members of other cultures often have to serve as an infodump, so making them related to someone important is an easy way to allow them to have access to their culture's levers of power, or whatevah.

I still totally want to make out with Councilor Velarn's daughter, though.

I'm sick and tired of "dark and gritty" it's so boring and cliche.

Outside of a setting like Planescape, everything is boring and cliche. What matters more is how you utilise the material.

I'm honestly not getting why people want Bioware to do the "dark and gritty" type of path. Dragon Age 2 attempted that, so it's obvious that Bioware cannot pull it off. Maybe with more time, who knows but I don't want them to do something halfheartedly with no logical foundation just because they can.

Well done high fantasy > poorly done dark fantasy.

At the end of the day, I'll appreciate a well written and well presented setting, regardless of it's type.

While I understand the complaints in threads like this they still make me wonder if the creator has played many JRPGs. DA2 was many things but it never reminded me of a JRPG. Backflips a JRPG does not make and all that.

That's the characteristics of a dark fantasy, which the Dragon Age franchsie was advertised as, if you didn't like it, then the dark fantasy is not for you. Sorry.

I think I intended more emphasise on the 'huge' part. Glowing swords are okay aslong as they look like something you could actually hold and swing, like the above.

Jumping really high is easier explained then being comepletely intact after being eaten. Meredith was magially enhanced by the idol. People completely ignore the fact that magic exists in this world when arguing this jumping point. Maybe the idol gives her a perma haste buff and a bull's strength buff. Put them both together vetically and you have a big jump.

You can tip-toe around the issue and try to defend the physics for it all you like, but that's not the point.

The point is it looked stupid. And there was no need for it.

It would have been more impressive and better suited to the atmosphere of the game if she used the idol to cast her magic, which exerted much of her strength, and then she dragged the thing sweating and bleeding and panting up to the platform.
