Ummm. I'm going to go out on a limb and say its so the player can actually read the signs and know where they are going, and as far as appliances, how do you know that it was a fridge and not something else, did you open it and see whats inside? And if you want to really go that route then why is it everyone speaks english (at least in my game)? Why not have all the races speak a different language and then you can try to figure out what they are saying and try to figure out how to respond, that sure would make the game more challenging if you had no idea what any species, other than human, were saying. If I'm not mistaken, even in real life, people in Europe have the same type of appliances that I have here in the U.S. , I guess people in Europe shouldn't be allowed to buy a product made in the U.S., God forbid that there is such a thing as trade between countries, species, or planets, can stand galaxy economics.
Poor argument is poor. Please don't play this crap just so you can defend Bioware. First off, I know its a fridge because it frakin' looks like one. Not only do you see the fridge featured on the human colony worlds of Freedom's Progress and Horizon, but you also see it featured on alien worlds such as Illium and that Batarian prison planet in Arrival. Plain and simple though, if it looks like a duck and if it quacks like a duck, then its a duck. Don't be an idiot.
People will pull crap arguments out of their butt.

Yeah, well, nope. That's not how, well, anything works. A cubical device with a handle doesn't have to be a fridge, in fact, there are many devices today that can be mistaken for fridges.
Even so, humanity is one of the most dominant societies, in a global market, it's very likely that a design could be popular around the galaxy.

It was pretty obvious that english text was on surfaces that seemed screen-ish. Did you notice how the only place without any english and no screen-ish surfaces is the Quarian Flotilla? Coincidence?

I apologize for my tone, but really, I find it a bit cheap that you and BigSarg are trying to defne Bioware by claiming that it might not be a fridge. One major hint that it is a fridge is by the fact that I every time I see it, it is always next to an object that clearly looks like a stove and cupboards. Come on guys, they're clearly human appliances. I'll even fetch a picture off of Youtube.

I am talking about the signs here. I don't care about the aliens speaking English, I care about the fact that their signs are in English.
How come you care about one but not the other?
Because there is a reason for it. We have a translator that translate everything into English.
As for the signs, there is no decent excuse.
Depends on how the translator implant works, doesn't it?

It's ruined because you said it was ruined. I was happy to carry on with you, but there was nothing more to say to BigSarg.
Anyway, this isn't much of a debate. First off, when I say "human appliances", I generally refer to human objects, not just kitchen appliances. Also Phaedon, no offense, but you don't have a case here. The model was obviously intended to be a kitchen fridge. That is why it was always placed next to a model that looked like a kitchen stove and a kitchen sink. Its not meant to be some scientific fridge, it meant to be exactly as it appears as.
But let's get off the fridge example. Another example is the urinals in the Dark Star lounge.

Humanity has been on the scene for 30 years and you think that the galaxy would adopt English as a galactic language?

I'd like to see a mix personally.

I have to agree with Phaedon, but I would like to see aliens use their own appliances. Or perhaps, some aliens like Turians, don't need appliances; They eat their food raw because their bodies are adapted to eating raw food instead of cooking it. Maybe they eat their food burned by cold instead of heat. It would just be interesting to see this kind of diversity. I could understand that the base on the Batarian prison had human appliances, since, well, Humans used to inhabit the world and they were looted by the Batarians. Plus, considering how it is a prison, they may have to cook food for humans.Phaedon wrote...

And the fact that Liara has a fridge, doesn't bother me as much. If it were Garrus, I would be kind of annoyed, considering they don't share the same kind of DNA with Humans and don't eat the same food. Plus, they seem to feed on different things. (They're a mix of dinosaurs (which, by the way, turns out were more bird-like than reptilian), with cats) Liara, however, is an Asari, and they seem to be the race that is the most like Humans. That, and Liara has always been into Humans (and Protheans, who, in ME1, have Human-like statues on their homeworld...But w/e).

All native language translators ( so also human languages ) must be translated into the Galactic language. That's why we can understand what' it's written.

Or what, you'll b**** mightily to anyone who'll listen and then go buy the game?
Three-quarters of your posts here have contained personal attacks, which is unprecedented and unnecessary. Bioware is not obligated to do anything and everything that you ask, especially considering that they've already explained the language issue. Everyone has translators and on top of that, Shepard has visors/helmets/robot eyes. And they're already implementing alien text anyway, judging by Sur'Kesh.
Christ, and I thought I'd seen everything anyone could ever complain about...

What you mean is that what Shepard would actually see is a galactic standardized language which Shepard has learned. That about right?
