Whats the excuse gonna be for "recreating" shepard in ME3?

Maybe he'll get electrocuted by a Banshee and that will cause him to reset?
Seriously to speak, this time an imported character should just keep his face and class from ME2 unchanged. Cause it would be silly for him to suddenly "upgrade" from Soldier to a biotic class, for instance.
Btw, Shepard's face in all the videos looks like an unhealed Renegade's face, but where the hell did the red eyes go? The scars are to deep(even deeper than in ME2 I'd say) for the red eyes to be absent. Still, if he did heal his face(explains the lack of red eyes), why did the scars reappear?

There should just be an option to change your face and class when you import your save, no story explanation is neccessary IMO.

This.

If you want to change it, great, do so and just assume Shepard always looked like that (in other words, you retconned Shep's face). If not, just ignore the option to. Problem solved.

Yes please, you think it's stupid to change? Don't do it, leave it to the user to make an "excuse" if you feel like tweaking anything.

I think it will be similliar to me1 were you are connected to the alliance records network and reenlist shepard into the alliance.

Kind of the same thing as we got in ME1; a corrupted database profile which needs repairing. :)

In ME3, we'll probably be putting together Shep's criminal file for the Alliance, where we'll be able to reconstruct the Commander's face as we want. No need for a story explanation; you could completely screw with Shep's face in ME2, and everyone still seemed to recognize him/her.

Yeah I agree with creating/recreating Shepard's file for the trial.

Yeah, seems like we won't have the chance to completely redesign the face this time around (which would make sense, storywise). Casey mentioned changing the hairstyle and other slight features, but the face and overall appearance remains the same for imported saves. I'm personally completely fine with this; I barely changed my Shepards' appearances upon importing them into ME2 anyway.

I'd be fine with just opening up a screen and letting us get to work. No explanation needed.

You're stuck with the import face, but you can change hairstyle.

The question is, will there be new hairstyles so that option is actually worth taking advantage of?

Considering you can't edit your Shepard's appearance when playing the character again in ME2 I would very much like to change his face. Nothing major, just a nose job... please Bioware one little nose job... please, he looks like Goofy! ='(

My guess it will be something like ME1, updating Shepard's file from "deceased" to up to date in preparation for the trial.

maybe at a security checkpoint of something there will be a facial scanner to prove shepard's identity.

I remember in an older game where the campaign you play as a custom character. The game begins in a police station in where a man who saw you is talking to a police woman. She asked the man to describe the Custom Character. That's when you begin to create your character.

I can see ME3 do something like this. In where someone will file a report on Shepard. In their report they describe or read Shepard's profile. That's where we the player can begin the customization phase.

Why would you need a reason?

We don't need a damn excuse.

The excuse is, time passed and your looks changed.

Jeez. please no more stupid pointless deaths.

There's really no reason to explain this - it's a game! James Bond changes his face every 10 years and we don't bat an eyelid.

No no. This is Mass Effect aka Retcon Central! You can change Shepard's face and then that's how he always looked!

It hasn't been confirmed he'll start at 30 with a cap of 60.

Indeed.  The interview with Jesse Houston suggests that this will definitely not be the case.  He said that there will be a level reset, though it won't be to zero.  And that it would make sense in game.

I think it will drop us to level 5.  If the powers are rescaled, then 4 power levels in ME2 could have the same power as 1 power level in ME3, and so it will be okay.

But really, it will probably be more mundane than that, even. Shep probably either does'nt get to change at all, or just retrains with minimal reason, save for the fact that "he/she wants to be as ready for the Reapers as possible".

I personally hope they don't give an excuse or story reason. Just let us change it after the 'new game' screen and don't mention it.

Not a bad idea.

I'm more worried for this...What if Shepard died in ME2? Is there some new Shepard? Another guy with the same last name?

If that's so you can't import that save, end of the games :P you failed at protecting the galaxy :P
