I played NWN1 for ages, then NWN2, and I still love the OC and MOtB. I'm a "purist" and generally don't multiclass. So for the first time I've brought a Favored Soul (love this class) into MOtB and got 3 levels before I realized I wasn't getting any more spells, nor the opportunity to flip old ones out. Is it safe to say this is a class you're supposed to multiclass with? Kind of a bummer - clerics continue to modify their spell arsenal, if I remember, along with other casters.

I guess I just don't like having to fall back on a pure melee class - I like Paladins and to some extent clerics, because of their ability to function in melee with the help of buffs and whatnot, rather than straight up fighters, but I don't know what else I would multiclass a FS with :/ My Wisdom score is 8 :P Sorc and Bard are out since I'm wearing med armor and using a large shield....

What's your score in the FS casting stat?

Unfortunately, spontaneous casters (those being the Favored Soul, Spirit Shaman, and Sorcerer) don't gain new spells beyond Level 20. Once they reach 20, they know all the spells they will ever know. In fact, the same is true of Clerics and Druids, though that's a function of the fact they have access to their entire spell list at all times.

If you're looking to multiclass, Bard isn't necessarily out of the question - the Battle Caster feat lets you wear medium armor without suffering an Arcane Spellcasting Failure chance (and mithral breastplate is treated as light armor anyways), while mithral heavy shields have no ASF at all.

Divine Champion is also a pretty flavorful (and decently effective-looking!) option for your character. If you start on an odd level, you'll get a feat every level, and some nice Paladin-like goodies without the alignment restrictions of either Paladin or Blackguard. Best of all, the only requirements are BAB +7 and Weapon Focus (any), which you've had since FS9, so I guarantee you qualify.

Hey thanks for the responses

Unfortunately I'm not sure what this means:

"What's your score in the FS casting stat? "

Think I'm going to start anew anyway. I guess this concern may have been out there for ages but its a shame there are no new spells from 20-30. I haven't played MOtB in a long time but if I remember I enjoyed it most as a Paladin, but I do like being able to give my team whatever support they need, when they need it, with the FS class.

FYI, I have the Dragon Age games and Mass Effect games - I didn't like the DA sequel but enjoyed the others - but I don't think anything will ever compare to the diveristy of character development in NWN/D&D games. NWN1 I was able to download a ton of player made modules that I loved. Never did this with NWN2 but I read somewhere that because of the mechanical requirements the community found making modules in NWN2 more difficult - at least as far as content goes. Would love to try something new if anyone has any suggestions - I liked the Diablo remake in NWN1 - I read a lot at work and like to come home and just play :P

I think kamal_ was asking what your Charisma was, which is the stat that determines how high of a Spell Level you can cast and how many bonus spells you get per day as a Favored Soul.

I didn't see any Favored Soul listings for them, but other Epic-level spellcasters can obtain Epic Spells with high enough Spellcraft. Of them, Vampiric Feast is by and far the best, but the others are pretty fun and can be flavorful - Damnation is a save-or-die with DC 25 + Casting Stat mod, Hellball does 10d6 damage each of fire, electricity, acid, and cold damage that ignores Evasion and Improved Evasion (but is sadly easily mitigated by energy resistances/immunities), Epic Gate summons a Balor for 40 rounds with no need to cast Protection from Evil and summons a new one if it manages to die before the spell expires, Entropic Husk is another save-or-die that turns the target into a berserker before it dies, and Mass Fowl turns all Small or Medium hostiles in its radius into chickens. So you can get more spells, they're just harder to get and can only be cast once a day.

I actually haven't played much in the way of community content. I played most of the way through Harp and Chrysanthemum, and have been having my rear handed to me in Subtlety of Thay (I suck at this game...) but I'd recommend either in a heartbeat, and I'm sure some other members can recommend good hack & slash mods.

Also, if you like supporter characters, I would definitely try a Bard at some point. Inspirations rock, and they get some of the best buffs in the game. Plus, you know, gish-in-a-can that works as a skill monkey if that appeals.

Plenty of NWN2 modules/campaigns to try at the NWN Vault. You can also apply modifications to the OC and MotB and SoZ and MoW to give them more capabilities and increase their replayability.

I never developed mods for NWN1, so I can't say that NWN2 modding is harder. I can say that the NWN2 toolset makes it possible to create some very impressive looking areas, so it can be a time-consuming process to build because no one wants to release something that looks cookie cutter.

Regards

If you get Kaedrin's PRC pack, you can continue to gain spells with your FS in Epic Levels.

Ah ok - I followed an online guide so my starting STR and CHA were at 18, so I think my base CHA is around 22 or 23 now - only stat I've been pumping

I played a bard for the first time a few months ago, through the OC. Loved it, but I dont understand why they get shields at all - I mean if they're going to get spell failure from it, why bother, but that's just me. I know there are shields in the OC that bypass this but I never liked over-reliance on gear as far as character development goes.

As of now Vampiric Feast is the only spell available to my FS - I vaguely remember Hellball from a wizard I played. It also just occured to me that, as a FS, why do I care what my WIS score is if I want to multiclass Paladin now (can do all the same spells but better, and likely Turn Undead like a beast and great saving throw bonuses to boot) Plus would get Divine Might and such (?) Would still have to re-roll though (?) start Pal at lvl 21 I would assume. Plus she's a human (wanted 3 skills which I don't think I would have gotten with the same stats as Aasimar)

Thing is, if I'm going to play a Paladin, I want to play a Paladin. Let's face it, when you do that Aasimar build with Epic Divine Might and such, they're just absolute beasts. Plus I like being able to use whatever cool weapons they come across, rather than specializing like a fighter. Never did any weapon focus on one - maybe I haven't been optimizing, but I prefer to take exotic weps so I can play around with about any toy I come across. Buffs seem to take care of the rest.
