I think my female Shepard romanced Kaiden and Thane, but Thane died on the way to the suicide mission. Would I still get a super happy fun reward for loyalty to Kaiden?

Nope. Kaidan knows.

That's terrifying.

I hadn't really thought about that actually. What happens with your ME1 LI if your ME2 LI died?

Think of it this way, even if you only took Garrus and Wrex on missions in ME1, does it mean the rest of the team got fat on their arses sitting in the Normandy? Nah, in-canon everyone still helped you defeat Saren. It's just in your particular gameplay that you use only Garrus and Wrex.

It's part of the story that's not shown, nor told but implied. Shepard had to sleep or go tho the bathroom at some point...

The difference is that every Shepard sleeps/goes to bathroom and all squadmembers of all Shepards fight in final battle. But not all Shepards talked about romance with their squadmates. Unless the game assumes that you did in fact talked about everything with them if the option was available and if you didn't romance them, means you weren't interested (which actually makes perfect sense haha)

Another interesting aspect but I still think they know nonetheless. The fact ME2 LI died doesn't change that you cheated with him/her eariler on your ME1 LI. The end result in ME3 should be the same IMO. If Ashely, for example, doesn't like cheaters she will tell you to get lost even if ME2 LI is dead and you want to go back to her.

In game: Nothing probably since you only have 1 LI. Realistically though you DID cheat on your ME1 LI and they should at least confront you with it. However I think upon import the romance flag will just give your ME1 romance and since your ME2 romance is dead, won't be on the romanced characters list. As such, there should be no problem when it comes to romances in ME3.

@Isaac

I'd actually very much like a different plot for different people. Strict people like Ashley should just call off the romance, tell Shepard to get lost and let it end there. Most characters from ME2 don't look that strict though. And Liara even gets back together with you in Lotsb even if you're currently in another romance...

What if you romanced Kaiden but he died, and then you romanced Thane but he died too? WIll your romance scene just be you crying for like 3 hours with a framed picture of each LI on your desk?

What I'm curious about is how they handle single Shepards? Tali, Garrus and VS are already in party, all were LI options in ME1/ME2. Will player be able to start romances with them in ME3 if they didn't do that in the previous games? Or will it be 'you had your chance'?

Also, what if you only romanced 1 LI but start a new romance in ME3? Will there still be cheating drama?

Damn just too many variables lol

I believe they would allow a single Shepard to start a romance in ME3, especially since there will be people playing who never played the first two games.  They have been marketing the whole this is the best time to jump into the franchise gimmick.  I doubt they will let new people miss out on a romance subplot.

Agree about different reactions depending on the character. IMO there's no way Ashley would forgive cheating, she would kick Shep in the balls and then tell him to get lost. But Liara is a different case. Good point on her already not minding ME2 romance.

I would assume you're 100% free to start a new romance in ME3 then.

Well it was one night in Paradise. And 2 years later.

Even Ashley would have to take that into consideration. And it all happened after she *broke up* with you on horizon.

I think this has been confirmed by casey that there will be 'new entries to old romances'. While I cannot deny any new players the chance to romance whomever they want, I'll be honest and say I don't like this choice. I'm actually hoping for a few 'you've had your chance, I'm not interested in this right now' dialogues by certain LI's. Still I understand this probably won't happen.

I never cheated on Liara but know this from youtube vids. I  do hope (and expect) her to force you to choose in ME3 though, I expect the same from the ME2 LI with which you cheated on Liara.

I'm expecting ME3 to come with a way to choose what happened in ME1 and ME2, instead of ME: Genesis-like DLC.

Then again, I probably am wrong abo

No, you're right about this. However there will be an option to select 'no romance' which will apparently allow you to start a new one with old characters in ME3 anyway. Bit weird if you ask me but there you have it..

I actually like being able to start up the romance in ME3. Say that your Shep really don't want to break the rules, he values Ash highly but doesn't romance her. Saves her on Virmire and doesn't start up anything in ME2. Wouldn't it be great to be able to start a romance with Ash in ME3. Sort of "I have died and lost everything, I don't want to make the same mistake again. I just want you Ash". But the bioware writers would write that much better =)

I'm thinking of making a single FemShep for Kaidan that will start up the romance in ME3 just to see the difference =)

I have a great mass effect 3 ending for fem sheps. It must meet these requirments though... Romanced kaiden, kaiden dies, romanced garrus/thane/jacob, whoever you romanced dies, you romance someone in ME3 and they die... Your shep is seen crying for by what you can tell hours. Then slowely turns her head towards joker and the screen blacks out.........
////////////////////////////////////////////
Black Widow ending/ just plain widow ending/ sheps life sux ending/ RUN JOKER RUN!!!!! Ending

I hope we get to have romances with non-squaddies this time (though I doubt it). Jethro Shepard needs a lover and at moment he can't due to rule #12 of never dating a co-worker.

A) Jethro is a hilarious name for Shep. (Although I myself am more of a fan of naming him/her German.)

B) That's an awesome idea.
