Ok, I am just looking for help with a problem and a question. I have been going through EA Tech support since April 27, 2011. They told me that bioware knows about connection issue and are working on it. The last time I talked to EA was Wednesday evening June 8, 2011, and they told me that there was nothing they could do to help me. They had me do many things with my computer, programs and finally to uninstall all of DA2 off of my computer to try and solve my problem with server connection. Now I have even a bigger issue since they had me do that. I have lost all of my signature edition items and my newly purchase item pack dlc, and all of my saved and finished games are no longer playable due to missing emporium and exiled prince. I can still play the game, it just kinda sucks losing all of my saved games and dlc item. So here is my question for bioware, I know all of the signature items and dlc items are on my computer but are locked, is there a way ilegally to unlock them on my computer. I can verify that I am authorize to have them if needed. If not I understand and will just wait for the fix that I am hoping is coming soon. Or to anybody who have read this message, is there a way to contact bioware, that I have not been able to find. Anyway hope to a answer, good or bad. Thanks

I would REALLY like an answer to this as well, considering I am experiencing the same thing. I need to reinstall my game, but know once I do I will not be able to connect to authorize my DLC.

I don't know if it makes any difference but a few days ago I bought the item pack and was able to log in manually to authorize the dlc. SOOOO stupid question of the day, have you tried logging in manually lately??

If you are on Win7 then try this Open a command prompt and enter this....

netsh int tcp set global ecncapability=disabled

and see if it fixes your issue. ME2 is having some of the same issues and for some people it helps. But it is my understanding that the Bioware servers are getting flaky as noticed by the board here is also logging me out and in as I switch through boards.

The social site issue you're seeing isn't new, and is not likely to be related to any sign-in issues in game. Also, if you're running a software firewall (such as the one that's built into windows 7, or something else you've installed) you may want to make sure that DA2 is explicitly allowed through it.

Yep, have already ensured that da2 has full permission. plus I have turned off my firewall completely and check, still doesn't work. I didn't have an issue until downloading EA Orgins manager. That is pretty much my downfall. After that connection was lost. I even tried and do a full uninstall of the orgins manager, but to late as they say, damage done. Looks like no more dlc for this game, I guess. This was pretty much my last hope, tried everything else, with no solutions, I should have just excepted the bug, and not gotten of of EA support, not that they did anything wrong except have we wipe out my game and reload. Which meant I lost my signature items as well. So, all of my save games are un-usable now, since I am missing the sig items. Time ot find something else I guess. Thanks guys for your help, just out of luck on this one. Will check back to see if bioware came up with a solution.

If you want to connect with Bioware, this isn't where it usually will happen. The forums are totally unofficial Self-Help places. Gamers ask other gamers for advice here. Bioware picks and chooses a very few types of items in a few forums that they watch for.  The only official support is where you have already said there is no answer, so don't "expect" anything like your closing sentence to show up in this message thread.

Incidentally, TTBOMK, the only place that EA's people are supposed to redirect questions is for campaign (spoiler) type situations, not TECH.

Alpha, just for your general information, This is what The Tier 3 Tech recommend me to do. They told me that since there was nothing they could do, due to gaming issue, that Bioware is the only ones who could help. So, he said that bioware checks the support section daily and just maybe, they might answer your question. So, I know this is self help section for gamers, but it was also the only chance I had for them to answer. So, before you start telling me that this is gamer section only. I already know that, but was just taking a chance, thats the only reason I posted here. Thanks you vary much.

Just to verify, what OS are you running? Win 7 has a nifty little tool called resource monitor built in that lets you, well, monitor, just about everything. In particular, the network portion may be helpful here. I'd start by looking for programs making connections that you aren't aware of. (programs such as that EA Origins Manager)

Maybe if that's connected to EA/Bioware servers in the background, then DA2 is being denied connectivity when it tries to connect.

Either the OP explained it badly to EA, or he / she reached incompetents (what else is new). Only the STORY and CAMPAIGN (spoiler stuff) are supposed to be referred by EA. Actual, real tech problems are supposed to be theirs to juggle.

Officially, Bioware make no pretense at offering "support" as that is defined (you can usually spot the threads that they will answer anything more in, which have the "Bioware" participation flag already displayed).

Thanks for posting Coldiron and I'm glad I spotted it. While this is a self-help forum and we don't guarantee our presence here or our ability to assist, we do try to help where we can, when we can.

Looking at your account, you seem to be properly entitled to all of the DLC on PC (I didn't do a full tally but, for now let's pick "Exiled Prince" and focus on that). Here are some steps to take that might help correct or identify the problem:

1 - What version of the game do you have? Do you have the disc version? Did you download it via Steam? EADM? Another digital provider? Also, is it the Signature Edition or the Standard Edition? That information will help us narrow down the possibilities.

2 - It could be a CD-Key issue. Run the Configuration Utility from the Launcher and go to the "Game" page. There should be a Product Keys section where it should display your CD-Key for Dragon Age II (minus the hyphens). If that's showing up as empty, let us know because that suggests that it didn't get copied properly into your Windows registry.

3 - It could be that, with all the installing and uninstalling that you actually don't have the DLC properly installed anymore. You can redownload and re-install the DLC at any time by clicking on the More Info links provided on your entitlements page - http://social.biowar...ntitlements.php

4 - It could be that you're experiencing diffficulties logging in. Our authentication system doesn't require you to stay logged in but it does require a one-time login to properly authenticate the DLC. It's possible that the tech support steps you've gone through might have caused that to reset or might have interfered with your ability to login somehow.

There are lots of potential causes. Let us know what happens with the above suggestions and, if you're still stuck, feel free to send me a private message and I'll see what else I might be able to do to help.

Thanks and sorry to hear that you're having problems,
Rob

Hello Rob, first thank you for your response. I do have the signature edition (disk for PC) which was running perfectly until April. That is when I tried to do that last download dlc, item pack. So when that would not install, I contacted EA tech support. They tried pretty much everything, like, verifying router information using all of there possible connections issues. They had me do a total dragon age 2 wipe out, using a program, might be call wrong here but VO, which removes everything that is connected to DA2. Then a total reinstall, which is what cause my signature dlc not to work plus the new item pack stuff. I just checked and my security code is located in the game section of configure. As for the game, I have always tried to stay logged into the game, but then I started getting "You have lost connection to the server message" come up, I would try and log into the game again but got the same message. As for the download items, I have loaded them serval time just hoping that would work. When I am ready to start, or resume a game, I can check download items and see all of them. The differents is they have stars next to them. I was told by EA, that is because I have to be connected to the server to verify items. So, they are on my computer but are still locked, because I cannot connected to the server. The whole problem started when I downloaded the origins Game Manager from EA that was offered with a free digital download of ME2. Hope to hear from you soon and once again Thanks for looking here and taking notice. I do have a log with connection issue errors that is in the game when it is trying to connect to the server if interested.

PS, I am really just hoping to some how activate the dlc, like exile prince and the others. Thanks

Very interested to see the resolution to this.
This one's piqued my technical curiosity...
I haven't run into it myself, but I'm tempted to get the Origins Game Manager and see if I re-create it.

I've been following up with Coldiron privately and it appears the core issue is an inability to connect to our servers. Melca36 - try the following and let me know if it helps:

Inability to connect to our servers can often be caused by interference from anti-virus software such as Avast, AVG, Peerblock, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Norton. Sometimes they wrongfully quarantine a file but the more likely case in this instance is that they've added the ea.com servers to their blacklist for some reason. Try disabling them before you launch the game to see if that allows you to connect. Also, open up the software itself and look through their list of blocked servers for anything with "ea.com" in it. Some software will also add the servers to the Windows HOSTS file in %windir%\\System32\\drivers\\etc. Removing those entries will often fix the issue. There's some further discussion of the issue and reports of success in this thread, which emerged right after launch - http://social.biowar.../index/6416846

Thanks,
Rob

I posted this on another thread but I did manage to connect briefly but lost the connection after 5 minutes.

I also recieved a DA:2 Servers Temorarily Unavailable once too.

I have not done anything to my computer and I tried everything you suggested. Everything worked fine before the patch.

I did have a problem with DA: Origins and was unable to connect for awhile but now it works.

I am having the same issue as Melca36. I really don't think my issue is the patch, as it started about a week after installing it. My hosts file contains nothing from EA. I've disabled my firewall and Avast, still same results. I can't log in at all, I get this as soon as I try:
Image IPB

Game is disc based. I tried reinstalling the game, while saving the necessary files from the Bioware folder located in My Documents so I would still be able to use my DLC if I was still unable to log in. This did not fix my issue, and my DLC would not authorize. Luckily replacing the files from my previous install worked. But I'm assuming I will not be able to authorize any new DLC, which would make me really sad. D:

Someone said they had problems behind a proxy, don't know if that is the case here.

I get that message posted above all the time and it drives me batty. My connection is fine or I would not be able to log in, post or anything else online. I do not have the button checked for logging me in. I don't need too since my stuff did get authorized once. But sometimes even firing up the game and trying to load a save or start a new character there is a long wait then a message that I can't connect to the DA servers. I have no idea why this is going on, its gotten much worse in the past month and half.

This has me worried because I am building a new computer and trying to get it all running and authorized is a concern.

FYI - Coldiron's issue appears not to be anti-virus related (temporarily uninstalling McAfee didn't appear to help, at any rate). Also, Windows command line pings to the gosredirector.ea.com server appear to be going through just fine which suggests something spooky is going on.

We're continuing to investigate on our end and I'll try to report back when I know more.

Thanks,
Rob

Had this problem today, as well. Game worked fine up until today. This is very odd, actually, since I play logged out. Why is DA2 'phoning home' when I deliberately play logged out? I thought it was only necessary to have an online connection when installing the game or verifying new DLC.

Problem seems to be intermittent.

Our intent is for you to be able to play logged out and that we only require a one-time connection to authenticate the DLC. The behavior reported in this thread suggests that this is not functioning as intended and we're currently investigating why that's the case.

Thanks,
Rob

Quick update - we think we've identified Coldiron's [3;800f0000(SDK_ERR_DISCONNECT_OVERFLOW)] issue and are working to correct it. It appears to stem from having a large number of character profiles uploaded to the site.

There are approximately 150 users out there who have uploaded more 30 character profiles to the social site. As soon as they upload their 31st character, the game enters a state where it now fails to synchronize when logging in, causing the login process to abort with the Disconnect Overflow message.

We're working on a variety of solutions to this on the server-side and here on the social site and we intend to have it corrected in time for the launch of our upcoming DLC. You may see some temporary server downtime as we tinker with the server settings and we'll post a notice if that's the case (obviously, people who already can't connect won't notice). Also, we may need to delete some of your character profiles to get you back up and running so we apologize for that in advance.

For those of you who have created a lot of characters but are still able to connect, we encourage you to go to your Options>Account screen and ensure that the "Upload Character Profile" checkbox is unchecked. That should prevent you from reaching this particular state. Sadly, it doesn't correct the issue for those of you already affected.

Thanks for your patience and your assistance,
Rob

It'd be nice if we could delete characters ourselves like we can for Origins *winkwinknudgenudge*

It's in the plans and we've increased the priority on getting that feature back in. That said, I won't promise it in time for the DLC launch, particularly given the increased effort going into site security recently.

Also, it can't be the only solution as not all users who are affected will necessarily visit the social site. That said, it's definitely a part of the puzzle.
