Cool

In all seriousness, though, I'm careful about my character uploads and am not having any of the trouble in this thread... but that particular feature is kind of common sense. It's nice you've upped the priority :)

[EDIT] Damn. With Rob's post no longer directly above mine, since it's on a new page, I feel like I have to fully quote his original comment. Because my taking out of context of individual words may not have been obvious enough:

It's in the plans and we've increased the priority on getting that feature back in. That said, I won't promise it in time for the DLC launch, particularly given the increased effort going into site security recently.

Also, it can't be the only solution as not all users who are affected will necessarily visit the social site. That said, it's definitely a part of the puzzle.

We took the servers down briefly and capped the number of character profiles at 25. Users already over this cap will not be able to add new ones but we haven't yet taken the step of culling profiles from affected users.

We've gone through the accounts of all affected users and cleared out the excess character profiles. Those previously affected by this issue should now be able to log in. Please report your results in the main thread - http://social.biowar...5527/15#7754348

Thanks,
Rob

Any news on why the game is phoning in when it shouldn't be?

Thanks for all the help/info you do in these forums.

Hi FieryDove - is this a problem you're experiencing? If so, can you provide greater detail about the specific behaviour you're seeing and are concerned about?

Thanks,
Rob

Yes, constantly. When loading a saved game, starting a new character, or switching characters I get that same message as in the screenshot someone posted in this thread about not connecting to the da servers and not being able to access online features.

When playing I see lost connection to the da servers quite a bit as well. I have no idea why it's even bothering. I do not have log in checked. I have my game (Retail sig edition and all dlc verified). I can still play but the long wait to start a game/load a game and see that message every time (nearly) is a bit annoying. Image IPB

I have never uploaded any profiles/characters for DA2 so it can't be the limit thing either.

Thanks FieryDove. That definitely isn't the intended functionality. I'll follow up with you privately.

Had the same problem, also had it with another EA title. Both are now fixed. it was my ISP and their gateway security not allowing the redirects I needed. Disable their connection script, clear my caches, clean my registry, reboot and manually log in. All good so if your ISP uses a config script to connect try disabling that in internet options - LAN settings. make sure DA, BioWare, EA etc are all specific exceptions in your firewall, just to eliminate that as a possibility, and try again.

If that fails, then it's likely that you have a high ping, EA servers hate that, tell tech that it will be similar to the WildBlue customer problems with the Sims 3 store and, odds are they can get it fixed.

I've spoken with the programmers and there's a small amount of network traffic that still occurs when you're connected to the internet but not logged in. It grabs things like the latest ticker text for the main menu, listens for changes to the server settings, sends some very basic anonymous telemetry, and generally tries to keep that connection open in case it's needed.

What appears to be happening in your case is that it's timing out during area transitions and other loading screens for some reason (potentially due to some of the issues described by DarkAmaranth1966) and firing off a largely irrelevant error - if you're not logged in, you presumably don't care if you can't connect to the DA servers and we should therefore allow it to fail more gracefully without spamming you with an irrelevant alert.

I'm not sure if it ranks as a high enough priority for us to patch at this point but we'll keep it in mind for future DA titles. In the meantime, try some of DarkAmaranth's suggestions to see if that gets rid of the issue for you.

At the very least, that hopefully offers an explanation of what's actually going on and why you're receiving the error.

Cheers,
Rob
