Bioware has always been very, well, progressive in their games. It's who they are. And it's why a lot of us love the company. I guess that's where my surprise comes in that there are people who are so stringently opposed to a same sex LI.
And everyone I've ever known who played Mass Effect thought Kaidan was gay, so him coming out as bi-sexual would not be a surprise. : )

Also, why are people making it seem like ..inter-species relations to be better than human homosexual ones!? I mean, they both can't produce offsprings, and that's a major reason why "straight" people might dislike the idea of homosexuality, right? (I'm not really straight, I think everyone should go for the heart instead of anatomy..So I dunno.)
"Straight" people might dislike the idea of homosexuality because men have no vaginas, so any form of intercourse they can engage in is grossly unnatural. (Of course it's not gross if you engage in the same form of intercourse with a woman, not sure why. Probably because it's with a woman, so it's by definition heterosexual and not gay...)

Actually it's not simple. Just because they didn't say they were straight doesn't mean they are. My co-worker is gay but he doesn't go around shouting I'm gay to strangers. [/quote]
That's what I'm talking about and it works both ways. You can nveer be sure about someone's sexuality unless he/she explictly states it him/herself. Which is why you can't talk about retconing if you don't even know for sure what Kaidan/Garrus/Thane/Jacob's exact orientation was. They never say it th

If Kaiden was bi, why wouldn't he put the moves on Shepard? If he was bi, we would got the cutscene of Shepard saving Kaiden from the Prothean beacon, not Ashley. Not bashing just stating there is no evidence to also show that he likes the opposite sex, all dialogue was flirtious with female Shepard while male Shepard was more of a comrade/best friend.
Also Thane was married to a wife he loved. Why would he swing the other way?

Even if sexual orientation is completely unimportant in the DA or ME universe (which it seems it generally is), people still have their own preferences. To me there is still a world of difference between the male and female elves/dwarves/humans (perhaps there are more asexual fantasy/sci-fi races that have yet to be introduced as a LI in Bioware games) etc. when it comes to physical attraction.
Yes, and realistically they should have preferences for dating humans/elves/dwarves and someone that has similar morals to themselves (just like real people do)...but they don't. That is also contrived by your standards and is a bad thing that should go. It seems you are applying double standards.

As for looks, the dialogue seems to imply that the protagonist is generally handsome/beautiful regardless of how the player made them.
Yes...and that's contrived, b/c the PC could look like this: Miranda's dream come true.

I understand that making more characters bisexual provides more options and thus more players will likely be happier with than without. I still don't like it, and would prefer more variety in sexual preferences amongst the characters over more choices. I'll admit that it is selfish of me to want this for future Bioware titles.
That's what I don't get...why so opposed to offering others more options? I don't like Renegade stuff and would prefer them to spend more time adding things to the game that I like, but I understand that others do like it (even if they are a minority compared to Paragon players) and it's important to them that the choice is there (and I just go on and ignore it).

Double standards FTL.

I'm just gonna repeat: calm down people.
We don't know anything yet. Bioware are smart people with a huge budget.
They aren't going to screw this up on a whim, just to give players extra content.

Thane's marriage to a woman doesn't preclude his desire for homosexual sex. When a bisexual persons enters a committed relationship, be that a homosexual or heterosexual relationship, that person does not cease to be bisexual. They can still be attracted to others, even others who are the opposite sex of their partner.
So, yes, Thane could be bisexual in ME3 if that was the direction the writers wished to take him in. Yes, he was married to a woman, but if he was always bisexual, being in a heterosexual relationship did not change that.
And no, just because Thane did not flirt with male Shepard in ME2 should not restrict him in ME3. Perhaps he was not ready to share that side of himself with male Shepard. Perhaps he did not think that male Shepard would be interested in such a relationship. In any case, if Bioware wanted to make Thane a bisexual option in ME3, I would trust them to do so with care and consideration, and I have no doubt that the "But weren't you married?" question would come up at least once. Bioware are clever like that--they anticpate those sort of things.

Because Kaidan thinks Shepard is straight. It's stated when FemShep gets involved with Liara, he says to her explictly that he didn't realize FemShep preffered women. Since FemShep and ManShep are the same Shepard character, he also thinks ManShep is straight. Why would he try to put the moves on ManShepard he thinks he has no chance with? He puts the moves on FemShepard because he thinks she is straight so he has a chance with her.ForumPortal wrote...

Urhm the fact bisexual people marry person of one gender doesn't makes their attraction towards the other gender go away, I mean, putting a ring doesn't have that kind of a magical power xDForumPortal wrote...

Then if marriage doesn't make a character a established sexual orientation in this game. then what does?
There was no dialogue or references to Thane being bi. There has to be at least a clue or a reference to it. Just like what they did with the Shadow Broker, they gave us no clue that he was a Yahg, I thought he was either a old Asari or a advance AI, instead we got a species called the Yahg <_<
