so basically after putting in over 24 hours of time into draghon age: origins, my hard drive got fried and had to replace it entirely - losing all my work. is there any place where someone can download saved games and at least get some o my work back?

It's probably best to just start over. Any save file would be somebody elses character and experiences so it wouldn't be like just playing your own game and being where you were it'd just be taking somebody elses game and playing that.

Yeah, I got that..but the story line I had set was pretty straight forward and common, so I was figuring that I could find something that was close to my save game..then with the help of cheats and mods, getting my old character back is easy.

are U using PC or Console? If PC, you can use "save game creator" tool to create a endgame save file that can be used for DA2.

I practically already stated earlier that I'm using a PC, lol..but I will check that out later, I'm still waiting to receive my hard drive in the mail and running off my 10-year old PC, that has a 60GB limit on the hard drive, with only 5GB free space left..LOL

24 hours? Just how far did you get exactly? Because if it's anywhere before the end of Lothering, you're better off simply starting a new game from scratch. Especially if you were playing human noble or city elf, because those two origins have the shortest, most straightforward stories. You'll be spending a whole lot more time on the game playing it through, so the time investment so far is practically nothing.

A nobleman seemed to be the only option available to me, which brings me to another question..how do I unlock other origins? Do I have to buy expansions for that, or just beat the game? And I think I was before Lothering..I was in the middle of that Dwarf City thing where I was running through some caves to find someone to help elect Bhelen (or however you spell his name) as King

You do realise that the character creator at the beginning of the game allows you your choice of origin, don't you?

Of course I am aware, but what I'm saying is that everything was greyed out, and even when clicking something, it wouldn't respond - remaining at nobleman

They don't need unlocking; they should be available right away.

I would suggest going back to see if you are just missing clicking other options (like having a slightly duff mouse like mine which needs several clicks), or if indeed it is a problem.

During the Character Creator phase when you start a new game, as you chose an option from each row (top-to-bottom) it may grey-out options in the succeeding rows because those are closed to you based on the previous choice.

For example, Dwarves can never select "Mage" as a class, Human Warriors and Rogues can only be "Noble", and Mages don't get to be "Noble" or "Common" at all.

Does that help?

That answers my question perfectly. I always play as a human warrior - other classes simply bore me - so I suppose the only option that was available to me was a noble.
Now that I know this, I can get to work on finding yet another mod; a mod which will allow me to choose an origin I like, with a class I like!
