Keywords in the interviews/videos - "begining of the galactic war" and "closes out the shepard story" --- looks like ME is not going away after ME3. YAY! :o

Of course not. Both EA and BW are very interested in expanding the universe/license/franchise. However, I don't think we will see Mass Effect 4 RPG anytime soon after ME3.

The Mass Effect universe is a very profitable Bioware IP. I can't imagine them not developing more games on it.

I recall reading something that said the Mass Effect universe would not be going away, ME3 would simply be the end of the Shepard story arc.

Well, no sh!t, Sherlock. They already started saying this by the time ME2 came out.

The idea that they have to eventually replace Shepard with something more badass is unnerving.

Indeed. They already have a fanbase that loves the universe they created. We want more Mass Effect content, and they want more money. We'll see more games, just not from Shepard's point of view.

I imagine them going into multiplayer after Mass Effect 3.. after all they did poach the Gears of War multiplayer designer. IIRC.

I think they've stated before that they planned to keep the universe alive. Perhaps if The Old Republic works out we could have an ME MMO.

I suppose this means the "war" as a whole won't end with ME3 which is great news to me, but I do hope that Shepard's contribution to it is substantial. I'm guessing that Shepard & Co. find the key to turning the tide on either more equal footing or against them.

Makes me more curious about the endings where Shepard lives (if there are any). What would he/she be doing?

I don't think we'll see one at all.  EA owns some of the best known RPG properties ever and they've done nothing with them for a decade or more.  I mean seriously,  Ultima is the basis for nearly every CRPG in existance,  it started interactive dialogue,  it had Bethseda's "Radiant AI!" 25 years before Bethseda did it,  and they haven't touched it since ~1999.

RPG's just aren't "Mass Market" enough for EA,  they're not interested in a game that sells 2-4 million units,  they want 10 million units or they don't seem to bother anymore.

Simcity, Ultima, Bard's Tale,  Starflight,  Crusader,  Wing Commander,  System Shock,  Syndicate,  Populous,  Dungeon Keeper,  MULE,  and many more...

...and instead,  EA releases NFS 12.

It's one of EA's biggest problems,  the single largest repository of incredibly valueable properties,  and they do nothing with them,  despite the fact that any one of them is a guaranteed several million dollar profit.

Actually Bioware have always stated that they wanted to carry on the series and that they designed the universe so that it was interesting enough to support multiple storylines and not just the arc they had planned.

Mass Effect MMO? I could (kind of) see that happening, though with Star Wars and what not, something like that would probably take a backburner. I can't see how they'd expand the ME universe, though I want it to happen. I'm guessing it could / would be expanded by films first (live action, hopefully). There's a huge lack of sci-fi films, and the anime they are planning simply won't make the cut to expand to a new audience.

I'm hoping for a Mass Effect multiplayer. Bioware needs to enter the multiplayer market, not MMO market

There is currently a live action film in the works http://masseffect.wi...s_Effect_(film)

I've posted my opinion on this topic in other forums and personally, I'd rather not see this wonderful franchise sink into a soup of mediocrity. That is, so many game series have died a slow death from greatness to crap (case in point: Splinter Cell). I hope that EA/Bioware doesn't fall into this pattern unless they have a deep well of resources to pull from in order to continue such high quality gaming experiences..

Dragon Age Origins outsold Mass Effect and two I believe. Don't assume Bioware won't ruin the next Mass Effect.

I hope that doesn't mean the reaper issue isn't resolved. Nothing worse than an anti-climax to end a trilogy.

This.
...then this again.
..and once more for the sake of it.

Seriously.

I don't mind if there is a bit of mopping up to be done, but if the Reapers are still in full force and the whole game is just about taking back Earth and doesn't end the war ENTIRELY - I will be majorly dissapointed.

+1 to both.

This trilogy needs a proper ending.

My only concern is that they hold true to Casey Hudson's claim to Game Informer that this is likely the last Mass Effect game for the current console generation.

Seeing as how Sony & MS likely won't release another console for probably 3-4 years (if you believe their claims that they think their consoles have at least that much shelf life left... especially due to Kinect & Move).. the earliest we'd see another Mass Effect based game is 4-5 years... Not sure I can handle that... must have Mass Effect (though while I love the universe of ME... I'm more attached to the various characters and Shepard.. will miss them dearly after ME3... not sure I'll crave the ME universe as much as I will the old characters).

Stupid consoles.. ruining it for everyone with their stupid old tech... pc gamers gotta wait and suffer like the rest of 'em... blaaaaah. I need my dolly, waaaaah!   /pout :pinched:

Ok... I'm good.. I'm good, ready to save the day.

They are already working on their next gen Consoles, (well MS is, i just assume Sony is as well), and i believe people are predicting they will be ready for 2013 holidays. Current gen DOES have a shelf-life for a year or two after that, while people make the switch.

But seeing how Mass Effect can pretty much go in ANY direction (except Shepards) after ME3, i wouldnt be surprised to see another ME title on this gen consoles in a year or so after ME3. Im pretty sure EA wants to milk it if they can.

Also, im glad BW has the class to ends this story arc and not rely on Shepard for future titles like other developers rely on their main heros. Im looking at YOU Bungie. First "master chief is done after Halo 3," but now...oh thats right, hes back for a whole new trilogy. Dumb. Way to milk the Halo fanboys i guess.

This actually makes me sad. I was hoping to see more original IPs from Bioware after Mass Effect. Jade Empire still remains their best original universe, imo, and it'd great to see more variety out of them after ME is over.

Mass Effect: Noir. The next trilogy will be one enormous Lair of the Shadow Broker.

Pure winnage.
