He is a Sentinel, though. Doesn't the heavy look fit, along with the tech armour?

He doesn't need heavy armor for that.
It actually makes even more pointless.

Also every enemy sentinel in ME2 has light or medium armor.

We already have a tank, James Vega, I am assuming that Ashley is no longer a "tank"

She doesn't have to be a tank.
If Bioware really wants her to have light armor, at least give her actual armor.

I wouldn't actually have a problem with it, as long she wears a helmet in "space walks".

With this outfit?

This is best I could got that is not from magazines.

Half of the squad mates in both games wear heavy armour. At ALL times. Can't be very comfortable inside the ship.

Well simple solution is to have causal outfit in Normandy for squadmate.
Though Kaidan, Ashley and Liara had that in ME1.

Appearance Pack 2

Ah, but why bring that up?

I'm not questioning Bioware's artistic design in general, just for Ashley and Kaidan.

Now we have a chance to ensure that the same does not happen to Ashley, and we are embracing this opportunity.

Yes, you have.
Through feedback, but not direction of the artistic view or demand for fan service.

Just look at the title of the thread.

I would rather characters stroll around the Normandy fully armed than waltz around the battlefield with a v-neck and vision obscuring hair.

Such as outfits made up of plastic which is actually absent in certain parts of the uniform.

Yeah, ME1 was all about functionality - nothing form fitting or sexy about the armor at all.

-snip-

lol. They were arguing about her default armour being more practical and that's the thing with ME1, if you didn't like the armour then you could change it whether it be sexy-like (ala the image you linked), bulky or whatever.

What, outside of combat?

Yes, a very bad one, it stripped her of most visual personality.

In combat, you know my opinion, the fact that she didn't have a different outfit was that particular part of the game being rushed.

Yes, and that ME2 originally had 10 squadmates. Can't design alternate outfits for all of them, right?

ME3 has 9 months until release, and out of the confirmed squaddies only 3 would be wearing casuals inside the ship.

that makes me want to cry

Eh, Mass Effect was never about tanking or the holy trinity so that whole line of debate is quite silly. Anyway, in ME2 we had Grunt and Zaeed who would both fall under that category to some degree. Hell in ME1 Wrex was as good a 'tank' as Ashley.

Ashley is a soldier not a point in triangle of trope. If her new role as a Spectre requires her to take a more subtle role she would rise to the occasion, just like how some soldiers in real life change the way they go about their duties when they join the special forces and whatnot.

...If I have one gripe with BioWare over this issue it's that they didn't just show off Ash and Kaidan fighting on SurKesh. We know they are in the game so I don't see why they couldn't have switched up the Liara/Garrus combo for that demo and set some minds at rest regarding their skillsets.

I almost want BioWare to release the next screenshot with Kaidan in the skintight outfit and Ashley in the heavy. No mention of it when posting it or anything, just boom. Wedges and all.

Right, the tight, form fitting armor that showed off every curve and her breasts was fully functional heavy armor. But wearing her hair down makes her a hooker.

Her new look as a whole, yes. Just her hair, no; that's just a poor tactical choice.

I just want to get this straight...

So, she's not wearing makeup. She's not wearing rubber. She's not wearing heals. She's not wearing anything tighter or more form fitting than what she wore. She's not standing any differently than how she stood before. But her hair is down and the top of her suit is unzipped so now she's a hooker. A ****. A ****. That sums it up for you?

I can't edit the title, sorry. I'll will try creating a second thread however.

Anyways, my feedback is that the suit goes against preferences and quotes made by Ashley in Mass Effect 1, and I support multiple suits for Ashley that are not mere recolors. If that is not valid feedback, then I guess I don't know what is.

I have no qualms with making girls in videogames look hot and sexy and whatnot. What bothers me is that the some designers seem to have missed the fact that short hair and no-heels outfits can be as sexy and stylish (and maybe even more so) than this old-school hotness. Sexualise whatever you wish, but parts of this Ashley redesign are just bad taste and i believe we all have a legitimate right to **** about it.

I agree with the person with the great Moomin avatar.

Less stereotypes please! I mean wasn't Ashley darn sexy in her heavy armour in ME1? Sexier than even the stripperific outfits in the games even.

One thing I belive is a very important part of Ashleys personality and style is that she is a professional soldier. To have several layers of effective protection is what I think is a important part of being a pro soldier, both in real life and the admittedly fictional ME world. It is especialy important to cover vunerable areas like, say, the heart and throat.

People may say that my opinions are whiny, irrelevant, stupid, pathetic and what not and that I therefore should stop saying things they don't agree with. But as a consumer I believe it is my right and even responsibility to tell the producers what I belive will make a better product. Deal with it.

That is not the point. As your said by yourself, your dissatisfaction with this certain piece of armour is based on the stereotype of super macho guys wearing heavy armour.

I just said that it could fit nicely with the "extra armour protection" "theme" for Sentinels.

As I said, this is a certain concept artist's artistic vision. You don't like it? Would you prefer it to be more realistic? Fine, provide feedback, a concept artist always receives such by several parties.

But that's all you can ask for, you are not able to compromise his or hers artistic vision, because Bioware wants that to be maintained.

Having worked with concept artists during the development of MEC, I know that armour is directly connected to the personality of the character.

Well simple solution is to have causal outfit in Normandy for squadmate.
Though Kaidan, Ashley and Liara had that in ME1.

One which was counter-productive because it stripped them (mostly) of visual personality.

Ah, but why bring that up?

We were talking about Miranda, so I thought that it was relevant.

Did you know that when seven-of-nine was introduced to ST:Voyager, that the series ratings shot up?

Yeah, they sexed up the series. Yes, it was a little silly in places. However, for the vast majority of players this was not a big deal

Unfortunately I was one of those who started watching Voyager because of Seven-of-Nine.  But what's funny about her addition is that I ended up watching previous episodes and really, Kess was enough for me.  I would have rather had Kess back than Seven.

I'll also suggest we haven't seen enough of Ashley yet to judge her.

We have seen past decisions by Bioware to be concerned.  If you cannot or refuse to see this then I can't help you.

I agree with the OP. In SF you cannot be too critical about realism, but science is also part of the term SF and therefor I think it is not too much to ask for the illusion of realism.

ME was never SF. ME was space opera or fantasy. It was Star Wars. It was Star Trek.

It had a hot race of blue chicks. It had magical powers. It had a super soldier.

I agree that ME1 was marginally more "realistic" than ME2 but calling it SF is a bit too much.

And yet in KOTOR, we go out in space and what are we wearing?  Just our robes of course.

Her default armor is as practical as light armor can be. Its as practical as Tali's. It's as practical as Thanes.

Heavy armor still showed off every curve. I see nothing in that trailer that is any more revealing.

I am not against having outfit options. I am not against having armor options. I understand the questioning of why Ash is now wearing light armor instead of heavy. I am even fine with people discussing how Ash's look has changed and what that means for changes for the character.

However, the usual Bioware board hysterical hyperbole goes off and people are now comparing her to Miranda and calling her hooker and w*hore when we've seen nothing of the kind just makes me roll my eyes.
